Jackson Partners w/Colombian Cities in Baseball Venture

The city of Jackson issued the following statement.

The City of Jackson is partnering with the cities of Rionegro and Medellin, Colombia in an effort to advance the sport of baseball between the two locations.

The Legacy Baseball League will provide collegiate players a place to play during the summer months of June and July, beginning May of next year. The League is a ten-team summer developmental league that will give players from Mississippi, as well as countries outside the United States, a place to hone their skills and create life-long relationships in a cultural exchange between countries.
“I’m happy to announce that this partnership is an exciting development. It will enrich all cities involved, as well as the greater Jackson Metro area and state of Mississippi,” said Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba. “We look forward to this new international relationship and welcome the best of Colombia to Mississippi to be a part of the Legacy Baseball League.”
The sister city agreement shines light on the potential economic, social, cultural, and education opportunities that are possible with this relationship. The exchange of youth from both locations also provides a great opportunity to learn from one another and grow together. The state of Mississippi, for example, has over 40 colleges and universities with baseball programs, including six HBCUs. This equates to over 750 players from the state alone, not including international players.
“We look forward to the great cultural interchange and promoting tourism between our two regions over my four-year term and well beyond,” said the Mayor of Rionegro, Jorge Humberto Urrea. “We are pleased and honored to extend our invitation for the Mayor to visit our cities and country as we continue to build this relationship.”
“The Legacy League is about more than just baseball to me, it is about bringing people of different nationalities, races, genders, cultures and religions into a true spectrum of opportunities for each individual, once again proving America and the sport of baseball to be the true melting pot of the world where all are welcomed to create pathways make progress and leave a better society for our youth,” said Legacy League Commissioner, Tim Bennett.
Dusty Baker, Andruw Jones, Brian Jordan, Tracy McGrady, Deuce McAllister and Ralph Garr are among the current owners of the Legacy League that is slated to open in late May of 2025. The League will play a 30-game schedule at Jackson’s Smith-Wills Stadium, the former home of the New York Mets and Houston Astros Minor League teams.

I hope the Colombians know how dangerous Jackson is.

Okay, this is a good thing.

By all means please let us know how to “invest” in this no way to lose investment opportunity.

I know Mississippi is the stupidist state in the USA, but who is falling for this?

The Legacy League is a real deal. The mayor is just a tag alonger.

Without reading all of this malarky, I would love to know how much money will be paid (or stolen) out of the Jackson taxpayers funds.

Bless their hearts.

I know no one in Columbia can afford to come to Jackson, much less to play baseball. Where is the money coming from, and more importantly, where is it going to? Let’s make sure that the money isn’t going from Jackson to Columbia, then maybe handed back to a few Jackson people. Well I guess it doesn’t really matter since we have no crime problems, we have very drivable roads, we have no water issues, we have one of the highest murder rates in the country. If I were a responsible parent in Columbia, I would not let my children travel to Jackson, Ms., or for that sake, if I were a parent living in Mississippi, I would hesitate letting my children coming to Jackson.

Just what Jackson needs!!! More products from Columbia

Baseball in Colombia? Really… I’ve only seen the place mad for soccer only and some tennis. Never guessed this

I think Medellin has had plenty of exchange with Jackson for years.

So Jackson got hoodwinked by the “kus[c]h” group so now they partner with Medellin? There is a great movie in the making probably be a Netflix series

Most of us have heard of the Medellin (Med-e-Yene) Cartel for years. Colombia has been the world's foremost supplier of marijuana since our college days going back to the sixties. That's the only source of money in that country and those cities.

I'm pretty sure the baseball entrepreneurs down there will partner well with Jackson and its city leaders.

Are Chowke's dope boys going to use this to bring in "product?"

Will the Jackson team stand for the anthem or pledge of allegiance or will they run their sorry ass to a closet like chok?

"I know Mississippi is the stupidist state in the USA"

I assume that means all Mississippians but you, right 6:37?

Anonymous said...

Sorry Tim, the State is still taking over.

Medellin Cartel now has an overstock of cocaine reported on National news yesterday. I can’t imagine anyone sending a student into that area of the world. Better check with their travel agency as word on the street is our next President is securing the Border. We look forward to having a safe border along with the Border Patrol!

9:20 - are you serious? 53 million Colombians make their livings thanks to marijuana exports?

You may indeed be one toke over the line.

Really positive development. Huge potential economic gains from a direct relationship with Columbia. Can't wait to see how the night life improves.

So let’s pretend. Jackson sends $200,000.00 to Columbia to pay for this poor country to send a baseball team to play in Jackson. They spend $40,000.00 on the trip. $160,000.00 is shared by whoever? Oh maybe, as Steve Martin might say, it’s a profit deal. How can a town (that used to be a city) that can’t afford to fix roads, provide water, etc. send money to Columbia, one of the drug capital countries?

There's no league and there will be no league. This is all a ruse by Bennett in a desperate effort to save his gravy train.

The little emperor better remember the Colombians handle business a little differently. Trying to run a grift on them might have explosive results.

Deuce McAllister is still trying to recover from the automobile business disaster. He was an active hired mouthpiece for a solid waste group last I heard. Now he is involved in some 100% Columbian Baseball with Juan Valdez? May be time for a welding class at a JUDCO.

Colombians. Yea, see no problem here.....

9:20 here, 8:34. Thanks so much for making my point.

Thank you for fixing the spelling of Colombia in the headline, kingfish.

My wife is from bogota. Colombia is a great country to visit. And baseball is popular on the Caribbean coast. Los Caimanes de Barranquilla are the best team. The Caribbean World Series is pretty fun to watch. It is on television now.

Chokwe is a fraudster.

A lot of fools in the comments do not know how to spell Colombia correctly and have no idea 30 MLB players have come from there.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
