Lyin' Lumumba: Jackson Zoo Edition

The Mayor often makes up facts as he goes along (state doesn't pay its water bills, anyone?) and Monday's press conference was no exception.

While promoting Saturday's Legislator Day at the Jackson Zoo, Hizzoner addressed the topic of moving the zoo.  The Mayor made no bones about his opposition to moving the zoo to Lefleur's Bluff.  Mayor Lumumba said:

First, there needs to be some context provided.  Our zoo is over 200 acres and the area that has been suggested is about 50 acres.  So I don't know how you move a 200 acre zoo into a 50 acre area of land.  The rhino alone might need 50 acres.

Such statements would be funny if they weren't so sad.  The Jackson Zoo is no where close to 200 acres.  The Jackson Zoo is only 54 acres and only 33 acres are in use.  The Jacksonzoo.org website states:

Of course, there is a reason why the Mayor is called Lyin' Lumumba and Monday was just one more example of such.

The proposed site in Lefleur's Bluff is only 25 acres, however this is Lumumba math where 200 = 100 and 50 = 25.

As for the Legislator's Day, good luck.  The Mayor is just yapping away as he is so want to do.   The leadership and majority of the membership will not provide any funds unless the zoo is moved and even that is not a sure thing.  The Mayor knows this but he is going to say what he is going to say.

Anyone have any updated financials on the Zoo? I'd be interested in knowing how much the City continues to sink into it.

He’s getting worse, if that’s even possible. He’s as enthusiastic about the zoo as a slug. Phoning it in appears to be his new approach to the office.

Who exactly is proposing to move the Zoo to Lefleur's Bluff? Has the owner of the property, the State of Mississippi, expressed interest in giving that land to the city for a zoo?

Anonymous said...

I'd be curious to see their legislature invite list since none of the members outside of Jackson seem to know anything about this "legislative day"...

9:13 Anyone have any updated financials for the City itself ? Last I see is Sept. 2021 (Audited)

What about Sept. 2022 or 2023 ?

Jerry, just remember, it's not a lie if you believe it.

The zoo doesn’t even have enough animals to need as much land and no LeFleurs Bluff is not a given. Even a nice petting zoo such as other zoos have, along with miniature horses or ponies for kids to enjoy would be nicer than what they have.

This is crazy. Jackson needs to close the zoo and get those animals to civilization which is what all of the people rescuing dogs and cats in this city aim for. This is animal abuse not that anyone in Jackson gives a rat's ass about animal abuse. If Jackson ever has money, it can start over with a zoo. The ONLY reason lying Lumumba cares about the zoo is because it is located in an all-black part of Jackson and he will not let them lose an alleged attraction. Doesn't give a crap that it's a lost cause or that animals are suffering. All he cares about is lining his pockets and those of his cronies with cash. C'mon feds, arrest the asshole without delay before Jackson is annihilated by that crook.

Now, now, just because the mayor may tell the story four, or five, different ways doesn't mean he would lie about it.

The cheap fake Mayor is pathological. No one is actively pushing to move the zoo.

@9:56 Based on the below article, I'm not holding my breath to see the 2022 or 2023 financials anytime soon. Foote and Hartley are right - changing auditors is not going to magically solve the problem unless they fix the problems in the City's finance department first.

You can't audit what you don't have, and every time you find an error or misstatement (which I imagine happens frequently) it adds time having to determine the root cause, make corrections if the issue is pervasive or a significant enough impact, and then expand your testwork samples. They need to be glad that the current auditor hasn't said good riddance already - I don't care how high the audit fee is, it wouldn't be worth it to me!

Chalkline must not have the grift worked out yet. Constant lying is an important component of a good grift.

Anonymous said...

He lies and all sane people know this.
But sanity, in the City of Jackson, is as rare as smooth streets.

Facts don't matter.
And people like this grifter thrive in a world governed by emotions, division and hate.

30 something y/o white guy born in Jxn here...I say keep the Zoo where it is. We can't keep moving things around because the grass is greener - literally and figuratively in this sense.

It thrived in that location for decades not by accident.

They need to focus on quality, not quantity of animals.

My questions:

If police department has been taken over by State in most of Jackson where is the money saved going?
If water department taken over by Feds where is money saved going?
Can anyone tell me one, just one business that has located in Jackson since he became Mayor?

This guy is a joke, blames everyone but himself for Jackson problems and he is the problem

Anonymous said...

Were his lips moving? If yes, he be lying. Right?

Anonymous said...

If the state gives money to Lumumba to "fix" the zoo, the grift will occur and nothing will change. He can't run shit correctly and this would be no different. Why would anyone think this wouldn't go like the water, sewer, garbage, crime, etc. in Jackson? Unless the state could direct the money independent of Lumumba (which still doesn't resolve the issue of the Lumumba administration running the zoo), the only option (if the zoo stays open) is to move it.

Anonymous said...

Lumumba is just fighting to save Jackson from the white menace.

His core constituency, however small, loves that crap.

Anonymous said...

There are many obstacles with this, including he wouldn't want to do it, but I wish Shad White would run for Jxn Mayor.

He doesn't live in Jxn but the impact would be insane. Someone with dollars and cents to restore confidence in this place!!

You are right to make this about the mayor rather than the zoo. The zoo is just another example of something that will decline until we have competent leadership. Agree with the comments about quality over quantity. A competent administration could figure it out in any location. This one will just use it as a political talking point while it dies of neglect.

I am going to tell a great big lie here. I was in the Clinton Library last week. I checked out the Grisham novel (Better than he has written in a while and the Patterson Eruption Novel (depressing read). Anyhow, while I was there, I noticed a great big Publisher's Clearing House Demo Check atop a shelf against the wall. I forgot the amount, but Mr. Google helped me out

The Jackson Hinds Library System's Eudora Welty Library Recovery Project Funded $3.7 Million Grant. The Jackson Hinds Library System is set to receive a $3.7 million dollar grant for the Eudora Welty Library Recovery Project.

I smell stolen funds either already, or in the near future. That certainly is a large amount that someone could skim into their pocket. Kingfish needs to do some kind of report now so He can post it later when funds come up missing.

The "zoo" is not a zoo. It is a jail for malnourished, sickly, abused animals. Just another reason the "City with Soul" should be embarrassed. Of course they are not.

Anonymous said...

What is going on with the Rhino ALONE has to be some form of abuse, RIGHT....And so, therefore my peeps, the rhino dont make no money so he got funny.

Anonymous said...

2:21,you nailed the description of Jackson's Zoo. Hell has a special place for people that abuse (and allow abuse) of innocent children and animals.

Anonymous said...

"Legislators' Day"? Does this mean we have to pay per diem and travel allowance for them to return to Jackson and visit the zoo today? Who will vouch for their attendance? I doubt they sell or serve whiskey at the zoo.

Anonymous said...

They should put that zoo out of its misery. Zoos are for communities that have a flourishing quality of life. Jackson hasn't checked that box in decades.

Anonymous said...

"Jackson hasn't checked that box in decades."

Six of 'em...

Anonymous said...

Chowke wants to move the zoo so he can give one of his pals (Socrate$?) the contract.

Anonymous said...

Zoos are luxuries for a place that can afford them.

If you can’t replace the street lights, hire a police force, provide clean water, and pave the roads - the animals need to be sent to somewhere they can be taken care of.

At this point, the Jackson Zoo is animal abuse. They should be ashamed.

More graft waiting to steal from a grant.

LeFluer's Bluff is not an option - its only a pipe dream conceived by the former group but without any reality check.

1) The land is not available for use as a landing spot for the Jackson Zoo
2) The land is not suitable for a zoon
3) Nobody is going to put up the hundred or so million dollars it would take to move the zoo to anywhere - LeFluer's Bluff or elsewhere
4) There is little at the zoo that is movable - not many animals and some not healthy enough to transport

5) Go back to #1 - the state is currently spending money on LeFluer's Bluff to turn it into other use; so forget the problems with #2, 3 and 4

Anonymous said...

The animals will die before the mayor will do anything for them. That is the animals that were not made into dog food.

Anonymous said...

Stop talking about the damn zoo until more important city issues are under control. Shut the current one down, sell or donate the animals, fix other shit that matters more.

Anonymous said...

How many people will email the USDA to ask to save the animals?

Anonymous said...

Their is barely a 100 acres on that parcel and the majority has not been used in 20 years.

Anonymous said...

Where did this goofball come from? I think a couple of the boars has is number but I don’t know whether they have a majority. Poor Jackson!

Which road, as far as condition goes, is safest to get to the Jackson Zoo, without risking a flat tire or tire rim damage?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
