The Mississippi Highway Patrol issued the following statement.
For the first time in the history of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MSDPS), all sworn law enforcement officers under MSDPS gathered at the Mississippi Trademart for a general assembly to hear from Governor Tate Reeves, Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann, Commissioner Sean Tindell, and Mississippi Highway Patrol Colonel Randy Ginn. At this assembly, Colonel Randy Ginn announced his retirement after 36 years of service to the state and citizens of Mississippi, effective December 31, 2023. Ginn was named Colonel of the Mississippi Highway Patrol in June of 2020.Before being named Colonel of the patrol, he held the rank of Lt. Colonel as Chief of the uniformed division for four years. Prior to that Ginn rose through the ranks and served as Captain for Troop G in Starkville from 2009-2013 and Northern Region Major from 2013-2016. Ginn graduated in 1987 in Cadet Class #45.
“I want to thank Colonel Ginn for his lifetime of service to Mississippi. His commitment to protecting this great state and its residents is deserving of recognition and commendation by all,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “I also want to congratulate Lt. Colonel Haynes on his promotion. I have the utmost confidence in his ability and integrity, and I’m confident that he will continue to lead the Mississippi Highway Patrol, and the distinguished men and women who serve in the organization, to new heights.”
“It has been a blessing and an honor to spend my career with this great agency. I have been privileged to work with the finest professional law enforcement officers in this state,” Colonel Randy Ginn. “The opportunities that exist for the men and women of the Mississippi Highway Patrol far exceed anything that could have been imagined when I began. I am confident that Colonel Charles Haynes is the right man to lead this great agency into a bright future.”

That's it?!?!
They could have all listened as Ginn keyed the mike and then went 10-7.
Meanwhile, if every uniformed and/or sworn officer went to the trade mart in Jackson at the same time, that sure burned one helluva-lot of gasoline, not to mention troopers and others running every vehicle through a car wash. But who's counting dollars?
Who the hell, as they say, was watching the store during this giant fiasco? Surely Kingfish has this wrong.
I seriously doubt that they called in the entire force just to hear Ginn was retiring.
Who was hauling ass in the left lanes of the interstates while this was going on?
Imagine how fast all those troopers drove to and from Jackson for this event.
Troopers are self-righteous worthless neanderthals. Literally.......
That's all the grey shirts for 82 counties and some of them don't work patrol.
No wonder you can never find a Trooper when you need one.
I wish they would have announced this pow wow ahead of time! Would have been the perfect time for some CannonBall Run type event across Mississippi!!!! Lol
I was on I-20 westbound in Pearl this afternoon. Two MHP units in the fast lane went by me at about 90-100 mph with their emergency lights on. And I thought that they were going to an emergency. I should have had a clue that it was 2 of them back to back.
Silly me.
Brown shoes and navy suit in the city in the evening? What a bunch of hicks. And I still say the campaign hat is goofy-looking headgear.
3:47 - or WORSE... who was driving 20 under in the right one. :)
Isn’t that special. Bet trooper Jason Young will still have a job. The more things change the more things stay the same. Sad that nobody will hold the mhp accountable for their malfeasance.
Had I known ahead of time, I'd have set up a testosterone, steroids and hair dye sales table out front.
I'm left to wonder which one is the DIE-rector who used to do the Truckers and Troopers commercial before Ginn took it over.

Look at the photo, Bubba!
"Imagine how fast all those troopers drove to and from Jackson for this event." Probably no less than they usually do on any given day.
Assembling every uniformed officer from 55,000 square miles, if nothing else, is endangerment of the public and malfeasance of duty. That includes the governor, the vice governor and the command staff of this organization.
I assume those who are 'motor patrol' missed their local Christmas parades.
You can blame the long line of republican governors over the past 20 plus years for the mess the MHP has become. A bunch of roided up egomaniacs that think they are Gods gift to everything.
I knew there was some explanation for the donut shortage.
Governor Tater did that!
Actually not really Tater's fault, he's just the figurehead when it comes to this bunch.
Every single person was there. This was done last week. The sheriff office's in the state covered for them from midnight until 5pm that day.
When the person calling the shots has no law enforcement background and is a career politician, decisions like this get made that compromise public safety. Perception is more important to some than doing the job they were appointed to.
@ 7:48. You may want to check your facts before you post. If you are referring to the Commissioner of Public Safety, he is indeed a law enforcement officer. The law was changed recently stating the Commissioner of Public Safety is such. I don't know if he had to go through the academy and training after appointment, but he is a law enforcement officer according to the change in law.
@7:48, what a dumb shit comment. The last time the agency held a general assembly, bringing all officers from across the state to Jackson for a meeting and photo op, was 2018. It was MHP only. The commissioner at the time? Marshall Fisher, a career LEO. If you think this is a “politician move,” you know nothing about law enforcement, and certainly nothing about MHP. They will spend thousands and hours for the perfect photo, and they were like that long before Tindell stepped into the picture.
@7:48 I think MHP has had these on multiple occasions in the past. Wasn’t an issue then, but because this commissioner isn’t former law enforcement officer it now jeopardizes public safety? Not to mention, I doubt this was done without the input of Ginn and Luckey.
@ 11:16 - Lissen up Billy Bob! It doesn't matter how often in the past this foolishness might have taken place and it matters not who was Commissioner then or now and it makes no difference who had input. The fact remains that this is a huge waste of taxpayer money, dereliction, malfeasance and monumental safety risk for the citizens of Mississippi.
And if 'sheriff's offices in the state covered for them from Midnight until 5 p.m.', one might wonder if we even need this bunch of cowboys.
That pic may have been faked with AI...not a single one of them look like they were feeling cute. True enough, that one guy in the hat looks like he just can't wait for his chance to spread his wings as a drag queen but the rest of them look like they think folks are imagining them nekkid and they don't have a fig leaf. It is also interesting that the MISSISSIPPI DPS didn't have a giant Mississippi flag handy.
On the surface this seems like a waste of tax payer money. However, I think having a gathering every few years is good for engagement and morale for an organization. So we need to let this go.
That said, there was dash cam footage online that seems to pretty clearly indicate that a trooper #E31 targeted a citizen and violated his 1st and 4th amendment rights. It was all on camera. When this type of behavior happens MHP needs to publish the findings of the investigation and any disciplinary actions taken so that citizens have some transparency into whether their civil rights are being protected properly. To my knowledge MHP never commented publicly on this incident.
With all that has been going on with law enforcement in the state lately, the MHP should set a higher standard so that the citizens will regain trust in their public servants.
I personally know Mr Ginn. SUPER nice person and very humble.
Real deal God fearing and loving man, enjoy your retirement sir.
