It looks like Presley is going to make a race of it. Hosemann outperforming Reeves by about 7-8% and Presley is ahead in Jackson and Harrison counties that went heavily for Reeves last cycle. Hood lost by 5% of the vote. Might get the Tater out after all….

I’ve not considered Delbert would run for governor. If he does, he would make good governor. If he doesn’t run, I don’t have a suggestion. I like Shad White but he needs to age some more to be viable. I don’t see any others as strong leaders though simply putting an R beside the name makes a strong candidate. See Tate, for example.
As to who would be a good candidate, perhaps the GOP should step outside the current elected officials and find a business man (or woman). That may seem too risky but I think not.
I said when Bryant appointed Cindy HS, I could have gone down the halls of Butler Snow, Watkins Eager, Brunini or other firms and found a handful of stronger leaders and candidates in minutes. But alas, Cindy was college friends with the First Lady.

Same voter turnout in Rankin as 2019 and reeves appears to have picked up 2% or so. That's not voter turnout, that people avoiding voting for a Democrat. He flipped Hood voters. The race is done. This will go down showing Hood actually had a better shot.

Madison Co turns blue I look for another state.

Democrats received 55,403 votes for governor in 2019 in Hinds county.
Republicans received 15,447 votes for governor in 2019 in Hinds county.
Call it plus 40,000 votes for the Democrats.

Tate is 64,000 votes ahead right now.
Once Hinds county votes, he will be just 24,000 votes ahead.

In a close race, Tate won by 47,700 votes in 2019.
It looks to be another close race in 2023.

Presley is not carrying his home area counties. He needed those votes and they aren’t there.

Atlanta last to report in Georgia, which goes D after a big R lead statewide.

Philadelphia last to report in Pennsylvania, which goes D after a big R lead statewide.

Milwaukee last to report in Wisconsin, which goes D after a big R lead statewide.

Now Jackson will be the last to report in Mississippi after a big R lead. Did Zuckerman give enough cash for Jackson to pull off the win?

The remaining 60% in Hinds will decrease Taters margin by 30k. Attala will decrease by 5k but he will pick up about 10k from remaining two counties. Result +|- 20k victory.

As a previous Hood voter turned Tate voter you're probably more right. I only voted for Hood because of what he did for an extended family member. You can read about it in Dispatches From Pluto.

Looking at WAPT, it shows that in the Insurance Commissioner’s race, a statewide elected position, 95% have reported, but only 86% reported in the Governor’s race. How can there be two different counts for two statewide positions? Shouldn’t the precincts reporting be the same?

I saw the scared look on Maggie and Howard’s faces and The somber mood at the Presley camp very early in the night. I knew this state wouldn’t flip blue tonight, not after 3 years of Biden’s disastrous Presidency.
The polls, WLBT and the Clarion Ledger were all wrong. They didn’t get the outcome they hoped for. The local media wanted to influence the election by reporting that Presley and Reeves were neck and neck and Presley could pull a win off. Then they tried to tie Reeves to the welfare scandal all to discourage white conservatives from turning out today. But it was the blacks who stayed at home. Democrats will do whatever it takes to win. The polls are wrong, no surprise here. We already know whose corner the local media are in but they kept wishing and hoping for the numbers to turn around.

That's nothing. I could have gone down the halls of any Jr. High School in MS, even JPS, and found more than a handful of stronger leaders, with more smarts, than CHS.

Mississippi will remain what it is - last(ish) in good things, first(ish) in bad things - until both the MSGOP _AND_ Dems put forth better candidates _AND_ the voters elect them. Can anyone put forth a reasonable and objective argument in support of a single state-wide elected official, or US congressperson, as having made Mississippi a truly better state for all or at least most of its citizens? I cannot, as much as I'd like to be able to do so, yet reasonable and objective arguments against all of them can be made without much research or deep thinking. Yes, a reasonable and objective argument could be made for a handful of state legislators or other localized officials, but that small number is not nearly enough to turn Mississippi's myriad problems around.

To add to the problem, most of the future would-be effective leaders and informed voters leave the state barely out of their teens, with no intention or desire to ever return to live, work, govern, or participate. IOW, those who would lead Mississippi to a better future and those who would elect them are leading and voting in other states, so Mississippi gets the Taters and the Bennies, yet even buffoons like Tommy Tubesteak can't completely fuck up Alabama/Birmingham/Huntsville(region). Think about that: Ala-damned-bama manages to make Mississippi look like a bunch of racist (both ways), uneducated hicks too incompetent to even operate its capital city, much effectively take of its elderly and truly needy, properly fund its state pension, educate its kids, easily/consistently attract national business interests, etc., etc., etc.

To be fair when is the Mississippi economy ever on fire? That's just how it's been in my 36 years of life. That's not changing regardless of a Democrat in the Governors mansion.

I won't pretend to know why more business doesn't set up shop here. It's not like we don't produce advanced degree holders. They just get sucked up to the surrounding states. Hell I was going to be one of them jumping ship if I hadn't met my wife here.

While becoming a CFA charterholder is an accomplishment of no small amount, it is none of the above-quoted highly subjective sales hype (but the objective exam info is largely accurate even if a bit overstated). If nothing else, no test can "certify" competence or integrity, much less both. The gutters are littered with all sorts of certificates which once belonged to those who thought for a variety of reasons including hubris that they were real high-steppers in the field of "investment analysis." Most of those who are truly successful at "investment analysis" both well-known and largely unknown to most are not CFA charterholders. Yes, there are many successful charterholders, too. The bottom line is that the "gold standard" for "investment analysis" is "how much actual profit do you make for yourself and if applicable, those you advise." Here's as good a place as any: Tate would have made a decent-ish Senator in place of CHS but as Governor of a state with the particular issues facing Mississippi, not so much. Now, however, his less-than-stellar turn as Guv will probably end his political future. He may not give a damn - just take his campaign piggy bank and other funds, ride off into the sunset, and analyze his investments from a beach house somewhere on the Redneck Riviera down 30A way.
