The city of Jackson issued the following statement.
Here is an update on the City of Jackson’s Water Situation… per Third Party Water Manager, Ted Henifin:
“Finally, we got through a night without many challenges. We continue to make progress restoring the system pressures. However, still have to put MORE water into the system than is used on typical days. That’s because we have to account for the tremendous losses due to the deep freeze. If things continue as planned, system pressure should largely be close to normal by tomorrow morning.
We are asking residents to continue conserving as much water as possible. This will help us get pressure and water to those that have suffered without any water since Christmas Eve.
We are conducting more sampling today with hopes of lifting the precautionary boil water notice in another section of the City tomorrow. Remaining areas will be sampled tomorrow in hopes of fully lifting the notice on Wednesday the 4th.
All of these plans are contingent on our tenuous treatment processes and vulnerable distribution system holding together for the next few days.

Just think about how much water is wasted by the thousands of residents opening faucets to see...wait for it...if they have water. Right?
3-1-1 the mother of all recorded messages.
“We continue to make progress”
Sick of hearing this. How many times has this phrases been said over the last 12 months?
We've had similar issues for years whenever there is a hard freeze. Happened during Harvey and Yarber. Pipes break. Happens around the Southeast.
If it's caused by leaks, it can be hard to find. They found one leak in the woods behind a friend's house in West Jackson.
The drone that's shooting black/white images and highlighting the water from burst pipes---cool idea and is a great way to see what may be hidden.
At least he dosen,t say right in every sentence. RIGHT
Happens around the Southeast.
Name another city in Mississippi that had this problem recently.
Shouldn't be hard to find a lot of the leaks. Just drive sown the streets and look at all of the places the pavement is wet with water leaking from underground. A lot of them have been leaking for years.
@kingfish the plant went down again. Broken pipes are fixed. There is no excuse for south Jackson to have no water
Water not a problem in other areas of the country.
I would make a run to Home Depot or Ace and get some large garbage cans, plug them under a wave or gutter and conserve it for flushing. Can’t drink it but you can sure bathe in it and flush. Beats the hell out of not bathing.
The plant must be screwed up but they’re not telling us how bad and why. Not sure if it’s old City workers or new 3rd party workers.
Kingfish remember 2018? Fixed leaks for 3-4 weeks but plants still worked!!!
It’s obviously they don’t know what they are doing, especially at Curtis.
I grew up in the delta. We rode horses frequently. When we were thirsty, we found hand pumps and drank from them. We also pumped water for our horses. So, now that water is not fit for human and animal consumption. Somebody please explain what has changed.
Makes your hair soft, too.
Per WLBT at the southside town hall:
"Henifin said the city should be using between 18 to 20 million gallons of water per day, but the plants are instead sending out 45 to 50 million gallons per day. He said this shows just how much water is being lost through leaks."
Someone, somewhere, must know where 10 decades of sewer surveys are...right?
When the governor announced the end of the emergency declaration, I asked my neighbor how long he thought we’d have half decent water. He said, “I give it a month.” It’s just pathetic. I don’t see light at the end of the tunnel, either. If the city has final authority over the $600,000,000, it’ll be pissed away with next to nothing to show for it as long as Chokwe is in office. He is just so unbelievably inept. We won’t be realizing much progress with a mayor who cannot even produce a legitimate plan of action.
You'd think it wouldn't be that hard to spot a 20 million gallon a day leak. Wonder what the average water utility estimates is their daily leak amount?
The $400,000/year water czar stated at the town hall meeting last night that everyone in the city would have water on Tuesday. He failed to mention which Tuesday.
He also stated that the city's water system is losing approx. 30 million gallons of water/day in leaks, in a city that consumes 20 million gallons/day.
The leakage exceeds the normal consumption!
Can you say "wack-a-mole" repairs?
8:31 Your comments lack context and grammatical knowledge so you misinterpret what is said. Tuesday is the upcoming Tuesday unless qualified with other words. Your misunderstanding about gallons is that he wasn't referring to all gallons available into the system. It was a loss of gallon statement.
8:01 Your Delta pumps were contaminated by pesticides on crops leaking into the ground water and then the aquifers or draining into creeks and rivers.
You also likely have pipe deterioration. Remove an old metal water pipe and rub your finger in inside or look with a flashlight.
Third party guy said they didn't mix the chemicals right again last night so they had to cut production. Which means south jackson went from trickle to nothing. This guy is an idiot also. Basically they have broken the plant again in under 2 months. The mayor is nowhere to be found
@11:56 AM - Lighten up Francis and get a humor vaccine. Be sure that the formula includes sarcasm.
Water is a very easy service to provide.
What is the status of the 48-inch pipe to connect Belhaven down to South Jackson and the I-55 corridor?
Can someone authoritatively, finally state whether or not the well at the Coliseum/Fairgrounds to or do not produce potable water. Most have said NO but someone said that well does provide water to the drinking fountains and farmers' market at the fairgrounds.
Enough with the guesswork already!
