Governor Comments on Consent Decree

Lord Protector Tate Reeves issued the following statement.

It is excellent news for anyone who cares about the people of Jackson that the Mayor will no longer be overseeing the city’s water system. It is now out of the city’s control, and will be overseen by a federal court.

It has been a chaotic series of months, while the state has assumed their responsibility. The people on the ground who rushed to help were floored by the negligence. They did heroic work to fix so many broken things and support the frontline city workers who had been abandoned. We committed millions of dollars from taxpayers across Mississippi to solve this crisis of incompetence.

In less than 72 hours after the emergency was declared, water pressure was returned to the city. Days later, the boil water alert was lifted. We distributed millions of dollars in water via the National Guard to ensure people could flush their toilets and drink safe water.

You may remember that the Mayor injected further chaos into the story by undermining the EPA’s request for the state to find a maintenance contract for the city. He insisted that he must direct the payments.

Since that stunt and our subsequent decision to set an end date for our running of their system, the federal government accelerated their efforts to put someone competent in charge. Their order was filed and made public today. The system should be out of city politician hands very soon.

The state of emergency came to an end last week, but I have authorized MEMA to commit another $240,000 from the state’s Disaster Mitigation Fund for maintenance as a bridge between today and the new leadership. That should help close out this chapter without further chaos.

More work to do, but it is very promising that this problem is now going to be solved outside of the city’s backrooms. I’m very proud of what everyone has done to come together and fix a longstanding issue and ensure that chaos and corruption cannot keep the people of Jackson from accessing clean water.

Ready for the fireworks.

Everything in the city of Jackson that falls under the Mayor’s authority has been “abandoned!!”

Somebody had to say it, so it might as well be the governor, but I just wish what little press we have left in the city, would stop letting the mayor spew his verbal garbage

Anonymous said...

How long before the Mayor throws a tantrum over this? Right?

Anonymous said...

Why don’t you go ahead and post the mayor’s response. You know it is going to be nothing but a charge of racism, so save the mayor time and make it fir him.

You love to hammer Tate but steer clear of Phil and the DHS deal. You say it’s because someone else is reporting on it. That same someone is also running circles around you on the water plant reporting. You’re a sellout, KF. Will your handler not let you touch Phil or Shad anymore?

Kingfish said...

How is she running circles around me on the water plant? Come on, girlfriend, give examples. Who exactly is my handler?

Tate just couldn’t resist.

NE Jackson resident here and I can tell you in my neck of the woods we are all thrilled
Of course that makes us racists I’m certain huh. I’m so sick of Derrick Johnson and our moron the mayor.

The Guv said "corruption." Spot on! Poor Socrates won't see a dime. So sad.

Such negligence should be rewarded, look for Biden to promote the mayor to a position in DC so he can ready his jump to replace King Benny.

Anonymous said...

Just a bunch of ignorant scammers and grifters. This is what happens when the electorate becomes completely apathetic.

Anonymous said...

The mayor gonna be mad. He gonna be talking loud and pounding that podium. He will be using them big words and calling the gov a no good. Problem for the gov is them back room deals been going on at the state level as well. Nancy Brett million dollar man and the cowboy boot Phil. And many others.

Anonymous said...

If that statement was issued in written form, then someone should be ashamed. Is there no person working for the Governor, who can competently proofread? I agree with the gist of what the Governor is saying. But it's difficult to discern WHAT the Governor is attempting to say.

EPA Regan had mayor thinking Jxn water and sewer was still Chokeville until EPA took it away. Revenge is best served cold, aye Lil Choke.

That Regan was smooth.

Revenge was just the first course. Next up is a bucket of ripe buzzards for our punk mayor to plunge into head deep, suck some crow.

Anonymous said...

Soooooo, did the Gov. just make Baby Chok his little, well, you know.......

Anonymous said...

The Governor said exactly what is true here. Why not just acknowledge it. (Disclosure: I’ve never given him a penny and am not associated in any way with his office or campaign.)

Does Deppity Pheel approve this distraction from and coverage of the Bart Farrve legal filing criticizing where Shad was calling Pheel the whistleblower?

Governor's comments are spot-on. I just hope the feds prove more competent than the child mayor and his sycophants.

Having witnessed the parade of idiots employed by the Biden administration... I'm not optimistic.

Vote republican, folks.

Please.

Tate once again just "bitched slapped" Antar.

Jackson resident here… not a huge fan of Tate but yes… he made Chokwe his little b!t@#

What was the point of the Governor's comments? Drive more of a wedge between the State and the City? Yeah, that's really what this State needs as it struggles to retain college educated workers.

Anonymous said...

Oh Lord I guess we can expect another Poor People's Protest somewhere downtown this week while the rest of us are at work.

Someone please tell Sister Rukia we don't need her anymore.

Reeves just flayed Lumumba with the unvarnished truth, based on a court order.

I look forward to someone doing the same for Reeves and his Hattiesburg voting bloc.

The poor writing is embarrassing for our governor and state. Appositives, pronoun agreement, mixed metaphors…

Anonymous said...

I've seen Republican parades. They're not any better. Why don't we just stop voting for parades? We need people that can solve problems, not entertain us while they rob us blind.

@9:09
Quit your whining!!! The comments were long overdue and why would he not tell people the truth. I hate it when people get mad when politicians tell the truth. So he hurt some feelings. Big damn deal. I live in Jackson and I can tell you many black and white peoples hate this mayor. Thanks Tate for telling it like it is. 9:09 you’re an idiot. People aren’t leaving the state for this reason. In fact Mississippi gained black population from out of state the past year. So go fly a kite. Tate isn’t being rude or offensive

Anonymous said...

Attn 10:00 - You write it so it doesn’t go over the head of the mayor. Using commas without numbers will certainly confuse him.

Anonymous said...

I suspect the governor was more interested in issuing a statement as quickly possible with his take on the news - rather than waiting for a perfect statement. It worked - we still haven't heard anything from the mayor.

I recall the mayor saying something about "If you lose control of the water, you lose control of the city." How's that working for you, mayor?

Anonymous said...

I'm pleased with the results. I don't trust the city nor the state to do what's in the citizens' best interests.

What the hell? A democrat finds fault with the way a sentence is structured while completely overlooking (perhaps in denial) the contents and their intent. The statement being criticized is precisely factual. I see nothing wrong with the remark or its structure and neither do 99% of the people who will hear or read it.

Find another nit to pick.

Kingfish said...

9:09: Wedge? Please. It was the Mayor who drove the wedge. It was the Mayor who covered up and lied about the existence of the EPA order for over a year. It was the Mayor who covered up and lied about the water pumps and the electrical panel at the plant. It was the Mayor who lied and said they were advertising for Class A operators when in fact the jobs were not posted on the city website nor any employment websites until after this website busted his claims - twice . It was the Mayor who lied about Detroit and privatization so he could create a straw man to inflame local residents and distract the media. The wedge was already driven.

While Rome is burning, @10:00 PM (Chowke sycophant) is playing the role of grammar policeman. How cute.

Anonymous said...

The Governors statement is payback when you act like little kids and don’t work together. The Mayor let the water and the garbage fiasco get completely out of control (lack of leadership)

I know the reasons/excuses are that the water system is old and lacked repair from previous administrations, but Mr Mayor, I cannot bitch about what my wife and ex husband did or did not do! I’m running my house and it’s in order, all of my utilities work!! Put on your big boy pants and take care of the citizens of Jackson.

All the citizens know that this needs to be fixed and could care less who fixes the problem.

Mr Mayor lean to work with people, you are not a King!

9:09 - We college educated MS citizens are not so dumb that we need the Governor to sing Kumbaya with the City of Jackson criminals to make us want to stay here.

Unlike you, we applaud him voicing what we educated minds are already thinking. It makes us want to stay when we see strong leadership that refuses to play racial politics at the expense of the impoverished low IQ Jackson residents.

You should consider moving to Cali. I hear they prefer to silently admonish crime there to prevent any hurt feelings. You'd like it.

Y'all are assuming the feds didn't let the Mayor pick his poison.... Or manager.

Whatever poison he had to choose he still had no choice but to pick one. He was cornered and all because of his prior bad faith efforts.

I'm grateful the Feds took over for long enough to stop the hemorrhaging.
Those of you who are partisan can pretend all day can take sides between the Mayor and Governor all day long.
You are cutting off your noses to spite your face and ignoring that this failure and lack of attention is something that should have been addressed decades ago.
As far as I'm concerned, both the Mayor both lied.
The Mayor lied imagining that the truth would be catastrophic in public panic and loss of businesses.
The Governor lied by omission...not to this day being honest about how the State made it impossible for the Mayor to get needed funds or the past actions by the State GOP to target Jackson as a whipping post.
The "good old boys of the GOP" are gilding the roads and bridges of rural areas with low population at the expense of the cities. They are siphoning funds to their alma maters and not prioritizing infrastructure repairs.
They overlook that Mississippians travel the roads and come to Jackson to shop and to be entertained.
DUMB...just Dumb and immature and corrupt!

We want clean drinking water and orderly garbage pickup. This is not about race, I could care less who fixes the problem, just fix it! No way you would pay a plumber to keep coming to your house month after month with the same issues and paying him.
Come on people you would get someone else to fix the problem. That’s what the Feds did.!

It’s not about race when you need a good clean drink, you need it! If you prefer that a person of a certain fixed your drinking water it’s something wrong with you!

Now you can continue to race bite, I’ll bet you have access to clean water and timely garbage pickup.

It all comes down to power, money and awarding contracts to friends, associates and family with no regards to the people you were elected to serve.

Anonymous said...

Until reporters start with the Federal grant being awarded and read all their rules and regulations governing distribution and THEN read how that money is distributed by the State and all their rules and regulations, you will NOT see the problem or political games being played or can have a clue as to assigning blame.
As for me, I despise an issue that should be non-partisan being used for political advantage.
It will be time consuming to learn the game and to follow the money, but if you don't see how it's diverted and squandered, you are just ill informed.

Will someone state what else Tate could have done except write the Mayor a check and watch him fail?

Anonymous said...

Can the Governor issue a press release written at the 8th grade English level?

Heck, we hold teachers accountable. Let's get one of them to review and markup his written statements. Or just any ole 8th grader....

The real Christmas miracle is Henry Wingate's signature. I'm surprised that didn't take a year and an admonishment by the 5th Circuit.

So what did judge wingate actually do by signing this?

“The “good old boys of the GOP” are gilding the roads and bridges of rural areas”, what in the hell does this even mean?

The grammar is fine. Dude is just mad that Tate is a better leader than the mayor.

I see local news reporting that idiot in chief known as Lumumba is reportedly happy with the 3rd party in charge. Sounds like a load of BS to me… I bet he is really
Pissed

Anonymous said...

So, was a federal takeover in the Mayor's plans all along? Or, did the Governor by ending the State emergency force the Feds to finally act?

Krusatyr said...

@8:47
Reeves did call Lumumba's bluff and I think EPA's Regan read KF's time-line of events proving the ineptitude and deceit of the mayor, a specialist in obfuscation and lies, flavored with marxist 'inequities', that are in accord with plunderers (like Rukia and Pickett) who help cloud issues for his ignorant political base.

EFGAlterEgo said...

Personally, I'm of the belief that Tate forced the EPA's hand by ending the state of emergency. I mean we know that the EPA has been handing Jackson warnings for a minimum of 2 years but hadn't acted on those "threats". It wasn't until Jackson was about to resume ownership of the water system that the EPA finally acted. To me that points strongly towards a forced to act situation. Now whether Jackson got to pick their third party I don't have a clue.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
