Gov Calls Special Session for $2.5 Billion Project

Lord Protector Tate Reeves issued the following statement.

Governor Tate Reeves today announced that he is calling a special session to finalize the largest economic development deal in Mississippi history.

The deal will include an approximately $2.5 billion corporate capital investment and create 1,000 jobs. The average salary of these jobs is approximately $93,000. At $2.5 billion, it is nearly double the previous largest corporate capital investment in state history. The average salary expectations of the jobs will be over double the existing average salary in the state.

“Mississippi’s economy is firing on all cylinders and this game-changing investment is bringing a thousand high-paying jobs to our state,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “One of my top priorities will always be to raise the per capita wages of Mississippians. This historic economic development deal does exactly that and will have a remarkable impact on communities across Mississippi.”

The economic development deal includes a flat-rolled aluminum production facility, biocarbon production facilities, and certain other industrial facilities. It will also include infrastructure improvement projects. The facilities will be located in the Golden Triangle Region.

Governor Reeves called the special session to begin on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at 10:00 am. The special session could last as little as one day.

Wait wait... don't tell me. This is cutting edge technology. We'll be the first to have it. It's never been tried before. So on and so forth. Beef plant, Kemper and many other boondoggle have been tried here before. Call me jaded, but....

Chowke, you lose, loser said...

This must mean that the Golden Triangle has reliable water, garbage, and water treatment facilities, along with streets and roads without potholes with their own zipcodes, and an effective criminal justice system.

The Golden Triangle has been the hottest area are for high tech development in the state. On a roll!!

It’s obviously a mini steel mill.

@12:51pm - It also helps to have a well educated, willing to work populace to hire from.

Behind the scenes there will be some greasy palms.

Continental was supposed to be a big deal. I think they employ maybe 300. I want my money back.

It’s going to be a munitions factory and workers will all require secret security clearances, hence the high pay.

The weapons made there will be used to replenish our stocks and also to ship to Ukraine, Taiwan, and Israel.

Everyone in Mississippi should thank President Biden and the Democratic Party for creating the need for these weapons.

Also, KF is a pathetic cuck!

Madison Timber type project?

Timber? Did Lamar get a pardon?

A world class concussion drug factory?

Never mind.

Where is the Golden Triangle Region?

Steel Dynamics 2000 acre site. TVA electric is 20% less than other areas of state due to hydro power. This being reported by engineers that know about the proposal.

Google Steel Dynamics. You're welcome.

Pretty certain it isn't KF who is pathetic.

1:48. wrong.

near MSU is the best place to put tech in the state thanks to engineering..

Just like a Republican. Complain the whole time then take the credit at the last minute. No surprises.

Barbour showed how not to use the State Treasury to fund a risky startup industry. I prefer very limited accommodations from the state, that the new industry be mostly a private venture.

Reeves has the right idea in eliminating State income tax.

Should’ve called a special session to usher through some legislation giving the state authority over Jackson’s water system. There’s no way the city/Chokwe is gonna find a legit contractor by November 17. There’s just not. I don’t at all understand pumping such a tremendous emergency state-federal effort into shoring up OB Curtis only to hand it right back to a proven incompetent.

Well, actually campers, the largest, healthiest, most high performing, longest lasting and most successful industrial development project in this state was and is Ingalls Shipyard. Billions in payroll for that region over the past 70 years. That was our first toe-in-the water of "Balancing Agriculture with Industry" and state-involved industrial development.

Of course there are prissy naysayers who claim that was a waste of money and nothing but pork. Tell that to the tens of thousands of families who were raised on Ingalls dinner tables.

3:13, that's funny. I can just see all of those engineers turning down $200k jobs to stay in Starkvegas. Not happening. Great school, but don't equate a great school with an abundance of engineers wanting to work in Starkville. They can go anywhere in the world. And do.

4:04. Starkville is actually a very nice place to live, as is Oxford, Cleveland and Hattiesburg.

Here we go again, same song, same dance, but different governor, Tater's turn to claim he's harpooning a whale. It's nothing but another Mississippi governor deciding who he wants to be the winners at the expense of our taxpayers in the form of giveaways and tax breaks to big corporations. Unfortunately none of these big giveaway projects bring in the jobs or the money to state coffers that is touted, not even close, (see Nissan, Continental, Toyota, etc.) yet the tax breaks for those chosen few whales run a plenty and are never-ending. MS taxpayers are the suckers in these deals.

If you truly want to bring business to Mississippi and help individual taxpaying Mississippians throughout the entire state all at the same time, then do something decent and meaningful and eliminate the state income tax, entirely! That will bring in business -- see Texas, Tennessee, Florida with no state income tax. BTW, the piddly arse RINO move our charlatan legislators made to "reduce" the state income tax earlier this year was meaningless bullshart -- won't ever move the needle!

@1:48

Continental had a decent plan at first

Send there own people for startup, poach the smartest from local plants, THEN hire “locals” (meaning Bolton)

That last part is where the Krauts fucked up

Anonymous said...

No jobs in Oxford except working in restaurants, bars or yard work at McMansions.

What’s the big deal there was a 2.5B and a 5B investment in Louisiana plants last month. No special session and if they had to call one for a business they would call one every month .

Anonymous said...

2.5 billion divided by 2.9 million residents = less than a thousand per head.

Not too hard to imagine that type of gubmint spending pays off big for someone!

Anonymous said...

3:45 for the win!

Anonymous said...

Yep 6:24 a 7.5 billion Blue Hydrogen startup just announced plans to locate in Louisiana. They will get a tax exemption of some sort for sure, but they are going pay the locals for schools, roads and essential services. Nobody’s giving away the bank!

Grease is not just a movie said...

Those who get the tax breaks grease the palms of those who gave them the tax breaks. Can you say quid pro quo?

Anonymous said...

Will they be making rolled aluminum for the auto plants in the South?

Anonymous said...

It wasn't MDA that got this project. It was the leadership of the Golden Triangle area that has gone after these companies. Joe Max Higgins has been behind the scene working to get the Columbus area on the map - and he has done so. Lowndes County is one of the leading counties in valuation in the state. With this project the Lowndes County school board will get around 9 million a year and the County will reap around 8.5 million. Not bad for a piss ant county! Of course, the Legislature can take Haley and Phil's approach and just give the company 100% of what they need to get started. State Auditor Stacy Pickering's office did a report on the worse economic ventures in the state - most of which were funded under Barbour and Bryant. The were tens time worse than the cull cow plant!

Instead of legislators you meant Delbert! Gunn wanted a full elimination Delbert the Democrat didn't, he wanted to continue to control the money.

How much $$ from the MDA "ACE" Fund is committed to this project???? and from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Restoration Funds???? Both valid questions here.

If they have to use a computer it’s going to hard to find a 1000 workers in Missippi, Remember dem ACT scores ! Alabama should be paying the incentives since that where most of the workers will come from and live!

Funny, it is Indiana based Steel Dynamics out of Fort Wayne.
Not surprising there is only a small group of engineers that make anything close to predicted $100,000 for 1000 jobs.
The average Steel Dynamics salary ranges from approximately $39,032 per year for Welder to $115,000 per year for Millwright. Average Steel Dynamics hourly pay ranges from approximately $14.45 per hour for Customer Service Representative to $28.28 per hour for Millwright.
How much does a Steel Mill Worker make in Indiana? The average Steel Mill Worker salary in Indiana is $51,945 as of September 26, 2022, but the range typically falls between $51,033 and $62,301.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
