5 Years for Stealing from the Poor

State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement.

Today State Auditor Shad White announced Carol Jackson has been given the maximum prison sentence allowed by state law after she admitted to committing fraud and diverting over $40,000 away from needy children. The sentencing order was recorded in Judge W. Ashley Hines’s courtroom earlier this week.

Special Agents from the Auditor’s office arrested Jackson in August of 2021 after a local grand jury indicted her for fraud. Through a nonprofit organization, Jackson obtained a government grant meant to provide meals for needy schoolchildren in the summer months, but she actually used the funds to travel, write large checks to herself, and make cash withdrawals from an ATM at a local casino.

Judge Hines ordered Jackson to spend 5 years in prison and pay $62,627.66 in restitution along with court and bond fees. District Attorney Dewayne Richardson’s Office prosecuted the case.

“The message here is clear: there are serious consequences for stealing from the taxpayers. Other fraudsters should be on notice,” said State Auditor Shad White. “Prosecutors make decisions about who to charge for a crime, so thank you to both the investigators at the Office of the State Auditor and the prosecutors whose work got us here.”

Suspected fraud can be reported to the Auditor’s office online at any time by clicking the red button at www.osa.ms.gov or via telephone during normal business hours at 1-(800)-321-1275.

“The message here is clear: there are serious consequences for stealing from the taxpayers. Other fraudsters should be on notice,” said State Auditor Shad White

But Shad, what about Tate, Phil, Bret, and the rest of your buddies. Oh, that wasn't STEALING.

Shad knew about Phil and Favre. The agreement was that Shad White, an utterly unelectable little man, could get his big break.

Shad sure loves going after old ladies in rural counties for stealing. But former governors and football players and he suddenly gets all skittish. We will remember this when you run for higher office, Shad

I thought this lady would be considered the whistle blower? Or she didn’t know it was for the poor folks. Just saying…

Stacey Pickering also gets a free pass. At this point, it is not only obvious Shad will give a free pass to any position he inherited and /or literally worked for. Truly embarrassing on so many levels.

How many of you remember "Mighty Mouse" in the late 50's early 60's on black and white TV?? Shad reminds me of "Here I am to save the day". !!! our hero. If you don't know or remember look it up.

Shad White sure appears complicit and culpable in Tate/Phil's skullduggery, but what about Lynn Fitch? The dang attorney general just sits quiet and doesn't participate....or is it too soon and we just don't know who the hell is doing what?

Brett will never be found criminally guilty. He asked for money, they gave it to him. He didn't write the checks, he just cashed them.

Only the little people go to prison for stealing welfare funds. Former governors and NFL "stars" are too big to fail.

"Prosecutors make decisions about who to charge for a crime..."

what a cop out, self-serving, load of bullsh!t... Who is that? His buddy Lynn?

Do we know that Phil "stole from the welfare funds"? I'm not saying he didn't, but so far I haven't seen any evidence of breaking the law. I've seen evidence of him being stupid, making bad decisions, and sniffing Favre's jockstrap. But I haven't seen evidence of Phil breaking the law. I'm not saying such evidence doesn't exist.

That's why it's important that there be some semblance of an attempt to investigate whether Phil, Tate, Favre, or anyone else did anything criminal. This appears to be happening at the federal level, but it's still really damn irritating to see low level thievery being aggressively pursued by the MSGOP elites while they appear to be unaccountable and untouchable.

I think Favre is a jerk in general, but I will never understand why people think he should be arrested. Logically.

He asked for funds and spent them on the project that he disclosed.

How is that a criminal act?

As for Pheel and anyone else that acted with malice, lock em up for ever. I couldn't care less. But going after a dumb sports ball star like he is smart enough to even understand, is getting ridiculous.

You answer your own accusation in acknowledging that Phil Bryant is being investigated by the feds. They are Biden's dogs so will be slow but not hesitate to bite a GOP ex-gov. The News mother and son and Davis weren't just low-level thieves and their culpability may have been established by evidence from underlings who had to be collared first.

Maybe you are a bloodthirsty progressive hungry for a kangaroo show trial since the Soviet styled Jan 6 circus production is shutting down.

Who ever was the grantee in Favre matter have to repair grant funds to State and State will make a payback to Feds. That is all there is to it . Happens every day. A lot of money but that is what counts,

Tip of an iceburg

But everybody is doing it said...

When the little people see big shot bureaucrats and politicians illegally dipping into the public trough it's easy to justify in one's mind doing the same thing.

I don't know particulars nor do I want to, but my friends in politico circles say the same as 9:45. Tip of iceberg, at best. And on both sides.

I've mentally accepted that white-collar crime is here for my lifetime. No way anyone ever really cleans anything of real consequence up. They may have to throw us a bone and lock some fall guy up when a leak happens, but it will never stop. We are pawns in a futile game and we will never have a seat at the big table.

But they will stir the pot and distract us, as needed.

9:00 am: You are correct.
Everyone who has been charged, tried, and convicted in that affair had some sort of official authority or oversight. That is, they were either responsible for the funds in some way or they were employed by the funding authority. The agency head (convicted), and the program director (also convicted), and the two working for her (both either convicted or awaiting trial) in the program all meet that criteria. If merely asking for money was a crime, we'd have to lock up all the lobbyists who do the same thing at the Legislature every day.
So based on what has been made public thus far, one would have a hard time finding any evidence to support a charge against Favre, but they "may" be able to find something against the former governor if he used his authority to intervene in how funds were disbursed.

@6:19 Lynn Fitch is more worried about decorating her fancy new Oxford office that actually doing anything worth a damn.

Thank you 1:02. Clear and understandable to my non-lawyer brain. Again, I don't care for Favre at all but I am so tired of social media hanging him from a noose over this. It seems most people just hate him because he is rich and root for his demise.

I prefer to have a justice system that applies the law equally to all citizens.

@1:02 PM - Look up criminal conspiracy. Asking for money isn't in itself a crime, but participating in a scheme to illegally divert TANF funds and then receiving said funds may be deemed a criminal conspiracy.

Shad never mentions those that fight back and beat him. Why?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
