Urban Praetor Chokwe Antar Lumumba issued the following statement.
Today,
Mayor
Chokwe Antar Lumumba signed an executive order amending Covid-19
guidelines to require that city employees provide proof of Covid-19
vaccination by no later than August
31, 2021. Reasonable accommodations will be considered on an
individualized basis. City employees who choose not to provide proof of
their full vaccination status shall participate in weekly testing at
their own cost and will continue to wear a face covering
at all times when at the workplace and/or during working hours when
they can be expected to physically interact with City employees and
members of the public. The Order shall take effect on Monday, August 16,
2021.
“COVID-19 poses a danger to the health and safety of the residents, visitors, and employees of the City of Jackson.”
said
Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba. “The Delta variant is here and it is highly
transmissible, substantially increasing the risk of infection for not
only our employees, but
the people they
come into contact with every day. It is essential that we take every
effort to mitigate its spread and promote the best health and safety
practices recognized in light
of current scientific understanding for health and well-being of our
city.”

A bull shit Mayor!
Antard leading the way on something (besides murders), bravo.
wearing that mask while down in a manhole will be tough sledding-
Yeah, just like those poor JPD and JFD folks having to wear masks OUTSIDE during this sweltering heat!! There ain't no way in hell that I'd wear a mask outside.
Pretty sad that this is the most competent politician in the state regarding COVID. Tater, this is what leadership looks like, now you try.
He should stick to hiding the dookey in the drinking water. Biden, speaking about the infrastructure bill said "We cant let what happened in Flint, Mi and JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI happen all over America". Free the water!
So the guy that couldn't or flat out wouldn't meet a State law deadline to report campaign contributions is now making deadlines. How about August 31 or whenever you get around to it. "The dog ate your homework" might have worked when enrolled in JPS but the dog he probably don't eat vax cards.
So in a matter of weeks he can implement a plan to require his workers to vax for a contagious but survivable flu.
Yet in over 4 years he cannot devise a plan to require Jxn residents to pay for water.
Heck, he cant even create a system that allows the decent people to MAKE a payment...even if they WANT to.
Strange priorities, indeed.
@4:13, You are now my enemy
First and foremost, credit where it is especially due. Until someone has some real evidence of any other motive, I'll choose to assume the Mayor did this because he recognized that he doesn't know the science, and he wisely chose to listen to the people who do know the science. Moreover, making a smart political decision is...smart. Do smart things, get extra benefits. Shouldn't be a problem for rational people.
It will be interesting to see how certain media outlets cover this. Tate might need an ICU bed, but, well, with no nurses and all...eh, just give him some vitamin D and enema and he'll be fine.
@ 9:40 am
It's Jackson needs the enema to pass this Mayor into his own Sewer abyss.

Yes, as do a lot of other MS pols, state and local. Maybe Wicker can get a couple of hundred mil in fedbux and a local contractor can, er, hit a lick...although considering the topic, that might not be the best turn of phrase, at least for the contractor.
It will be interesting to see if Tate, after surviving his own COVID situation, will be able to survive Mississippi's COVID situation, especially the long-term side effects.
