It appears we got us a food fight in the Sheriff's Office of Clarke County. This little message from some deputies appeared on Facebook:
Sheriff Anthony Chancelor fired right back:
"Six deputies resigned following an attempted internal coup on Sunday, May 17. Despite these events, the Sheriff’s Office remains fully committed to serving the citizens of Clarke County with professionalism.
What is most disappointing is that these employees — individuals I worked with and saw regularly — chose to air their grievances on social media rather than bringing their concerns directly to me. Their actions came as a complete surprise.
Our focus now is moving forward and continuing to provide the dependable service and protection the people of Clarke County deserve".
Chief Deputy Billy Lewis chimed in as well:
It’s amazing how people reach out to a public forum instead of actually coming to the administration to voice any concerns. I am the Chief Deputy for this department and no one has reached out to me with any concerns. Yes, I have had some medical issues going on and have been out a good bit over the last few months but my phone is always on and my door is always open and everyone that works for this department knows that. I have been in law enforcement for 25 years and I have served this county for 23 of those. If officers want to know what it’s like to be questioned, their integrity questioned, their love of this job and the people they serve questioned then keep doing the job day after day for more than 2 or 3 years and learn how to live with everything you’ve seen and done and everyone that has cussed you and spit at you and fought you but you choose to push through because what you believe in is that you were put here to protect those very people. Some people will see this as me defending mistakes made. It is not. This is me stating that mistakes have been made, as we are all human, and consequences have followed. This is me stating that one or two people can get in someone’s ear and cause them to make a very costly decision
Does anyone think we have heard the last of this bit of drama?

Interesting to hear from 'the Judge' and not hear from the Sheriff; lets his cheif deputy speak for him.
Any word on why the five/six decided to lay down?
What led to this? Are things going on in that department that those officers refused to tolerate? “ The only thing necessary for evil to exist, is that good men do nothing.” How many “good” men in The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, chose to do nothing?
After reading Deputy Whitaker’s resignation letter I didn’t know if he was talking about Rankin, Simpson, or Clarke counties !?
