Jackson Square...is that the one where Zayles used to be? Somebody remind me.

They are only celebrating Jacktown setting new murder numbers and finishing in the top 3 murder towns for 2020. I think Jacktown already has at least one for 2021.

Can you keep a running tote board on how many murders in Jackson in 2021. Kinda like Jerry Lewis did with his telethon. Ed McMahon type guy can give us a Timpani before every new murder is announced.

Good thing those bullets know enough to not come down through some sleeping child's head. Infuriating . . . at least to me. Vermin.

I mentioned an AH-64 Apache attack Helicopter exercise on the last segment.

That shit calls for a A-10 Wart Hog (fully armed) and approaching from Hwy 80 and Ellis Avenue to finally finish what's left of Jackson Square.

Yeah 3:32, Zayles was down there.
They had a very nice movie theater as well.
Hell, the entire shopping center was nice.

But that was long ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Zayer's was at Jackson Square. It was like Walmart before there was a such a thing. Zales is a jewelry store chain but it was not at Jackson Square.

Jackson Square had Giant Foods (big grocery store), a Hallmark shop, TG & Y (a five and dime), Pasquale's pizza, James Gang Boutique, Eckerd Drugs, Corky's burgers, Zayer's tire and auto repair. Around the corner was a restaurant called Romonoff's. South Jackson was a pretty good place to grow up in the 50's - 70's.

Alta Woods had a nice park. Jackson used to hire a teenager to man each park around town. Jackson would deposit big green wooden boxes in the parks in the summers. The boxes had balls, bats, shuffleboard equipment, etc. Kids would hang out and plays games all day every day. I never saw a single fight.

Jackson used to be a very nice place. I remember a murder a Rankin County and the news dominated the headlines of the CL and Jackson Daily News for days. The murder shocked the town.

I am sure they were shooting blanks.

Used to shop at Zayre in the Jackson Square. A poor man's Kmart. That was a nice area down that way.

Great spot for a cluster bomb and a few napalm strikes.

What word was used earlier, ah yes, Anarchy.

In Jackson on New Years Eve and at least 2 days thereafter gunfire is constant, I mean constant, in certain parts of Jackson at night. There is automatic gunfire as well. The young idiots know that it's wide open and there is no consequence.

At least it isn't machine gun fire like L.A. in the 1990s

Will continue to get worse with no leadership or law enforcement in these areas. You can basically do anything in these areas without anyone caring.

The silence from the black church leaders and the black community leaders is absolutely deafening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the S&H green stamp place used to be over there. My mom used to let me keep them all.

Times, they have a changed.

Jackson Square, Westland Plaza, Mart 51, Meadowbrook Shopping Center, the ORIGINAL highway 80 as it was with all of the neon lights. Gosh how I wish we could go back to simpler times. Does anyone have any photos of these places? If you are part of the generations that grew up during that heyday you won’t recognize it now from what it was then. Western Auto at Jackson Square is where you could go get accessories for your bikes. I remember someone used to make a small generator that attached to your bike frame and it had a wheel that came in contact with your tire and would generate power for a headlamp. Dang it! I miss those days and I miss the Sears on State Street and METRO CENTER before it became a Dead zone. What have we become? I remember people used to decorate more at Christmas then than they do now and they really appreciated life more.

When I was a child, we would go to Wilson’s on Thanksgiving afternoon. It was the only store open. Does anyone remember where it was?

Anonymous said...

Wilson's was in Deville Plaza where Stein Mart is/was, between the Deville Cinema and Ossie's BarBQ (now a CSpire store). There may have been another Wilson's, but that's the one I rode my bike to in my elementary school days.

Jacksonian Plaza had Miller's which became Howard Brothers. They were where Books a Million is.

I live in Texas now, but was home for the holidays. I don't know how Jackson is holding on. I rode through Leftover and the streets are damn near gravel. The city is full of payday loans and pawn shops. And now you have thugs running wild in the city, blocking interstates and shooting up public spaces, and the police are doing nothing.

Antar promised the most radical city in America. This is what it looks like.

When you say things like "at least it isn't machine gun fire like L.A. in the 1990s", you know your city is lost.

What's next? "At least it's not as bad as Beirut in the 1980s"?

And don't expect much from the black church leaders - the ones who were quite vocal last year during all the BLM activity. The only people to blame here don't have the proper skin color to up those tax free donations.

What do you guys expect black church leaders to do? What power do they hold? What power do your non-black church leaders really hold? Do you think these are kids that attend church, or even their parents? What did white church leaders do during the 1700's - today in this country regarding any issues? Where are they during this issue? Aren't we all God's children?

Honestly, most churches are nothing more than new-aged country clubs these days. It is funny how these churches sit on mountains of money and do all of these missionary trips to foreign countries. How about doing some missionary work in your own backyard?

"What did white church leaders do during the 1700's"

Half of em' preached against the evils of slavery every Sunday morning.

But I'm sure the "woke"/"cancel culture" crowd is toppling their statues as well.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
