City Limits Cafe Opens at Fairgrounds

Ag Commish issued the following statement.

Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson cut the ribbon to the new City Limits Café at the Mississippi Farmers Market in Jackson. The café is open to the public Monday through Friday, and offers cafeteria-style quick service food, as well as made-to-order options on the grill. Commissioner Gipson was joined by Ralph and Missy Elmore, owners and operators of the City Limits Café.

“We are so glad to have the City Limits Café here at the Mississippi Farmers Market,” said Commissioner Gipson. “I look forward to enjoying some good, old-fashioned home cooking. The café is easily accessible and provides a great option for those in the downtown Jackson area to get a home-cooked breakfast or lunch on-the-go, as well as meals from the grill.”

The City Limits Café is open from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for breakfast and from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch every weekday. The café is located inside the Mississippi Farmers Market at 929 High Street in Jackson. For daily menu schedules, visit the City Limits Café on Facebook.

The Mississippi Farmers Market, a division of the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce, is open every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. through January. Beginning February 6, the farmers market will open Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. For additional information about the Mississippi Farmers Market, visit www.msfarmersmarket.com, download the Mississippi Farmers Market mobile app, or visit Mississippi Farmers Market on Facebook.

It is NOT going to be open on Saturday... When people are actually shopping there.
That sux, Andy.

How many officers were in Andy's security detail?

I had lunch there yesterday. It's great if you consider "home cooking" to be opening a can and warming it up. But only if you pay too much to buy the can in the first place.

Texas Cowboys don't even wear hats that big.

Andy looks like a goober wearing those outlandish things on his lil' head.

No doubt the man is smart . . . but he still looks goofy in those hats.

Not open on Saturday, the only day the farmer’s market IS open. What a typical Mississippi way of doing things.

Remember when the old farmers markets down there were open about everyday and there were plenty of vendors which helped keep the prices down. A few hours on Saturday is just ridiculous.

can you imagine the collection of fossils this place will accumulate? Who is going to have time to lounge around the farmers market on a weekday besides the farmers themselves?

4:45 pm, Did you not read the article? Andy doesn’t run the City Limits Cafe or set it’s hours of operation. It is a privately owned business that rents space at the farmer’s market. If the hours of operation don’t suit you, complain to the restaurant owners.

Are cowboy hats required?

You're wasting your time if you're waiting for Andy Gipson to come up with a plan that makes sense.

Why is Andy doing the ribbon cutting? He is the the owner/operator of that restaurant? Will he make me a sammich?

Is Andy a real cowboy or does he just play one on TV?

Free market Republicans, Mississippi style .

Where was Lumumba? It's his city.

What we need is another Pop Bailey's. You young whipper-snappers won't know what I'm talking about, but you old timers such as I will know.

By the way, aren't political signs on street right-of-ways illegal? I was down Ridgewood Road from County Line to Adkins today and Lumumba signs are thick as thieves on the edge of the road.

Always good to have another option of a place to eat. As a registered Old Fart I want to say I really miss the old cafes downtown. Jackson had some really good ones back in the 50s.

Andy reminds me of J.L. Jones. (look it up if you don’t get it) I promise that it will make you smile.

Back in the day, the farmer's market was across from MS Memorial Stadium. Several truck farmers would park at the stalls and sell vegetables, and I seem to remember that they were there most of the week (Monday - Saturday, from what I remember.) There was a really good restaurant there on the grounds as well.

I bought a lot of vegetables and fruit there over the few years I lived in Jackson, and ate at the restaurant most days I went there. The proprietor and his waitresses were the classic mid-80's polyester clad Mississippi folk, and they always chose to be pleasant to the long-haired kids, like myself, that showed up to eat. They were really nice people. A 15 gallon cowboy hat walking up in there would've been just as out of place as I was, but I reckon they'd let it slide.

I grew up and started getting haircuts on the regular and dressing normal when I had to earn an honest living. That guy in the Bob Wills hat looks like one of the goobers from Hee-Haw. Yay Mississippi.

If this Goob is going to pretend to be a rancher or Texan at ribbon cuttings, should he not at least use Burdizzo Pliers? (look it up)...

Quite a few politicians (other than this guy) in this state have been utter embarrassments when it comes to personal presentation and theatrics. Cliff Finch comes to mind. Steve Holland comes to mind. Can you name others? Go.

Easy.

Haley Barbour
Phil Bryant
Bennie Thompson
John Arthur Eaves (both Junior & Senior)
Billy McCoy

All were/are embarrassing as hell.

I can name a lot more.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
