Since the Mississippi Bar will not post attorney discipline on its website, JJ is performing a public service. Posted below are the disciplinary actions taken against wayward lawyers in 2020. JJ obtained the actions through a public records request.
Jeffrey Dixon Knight (Pearl): Disbarred. Felony convictions for meth possession with intent to distribute.
Thomas Belleperche (Fort Wayne, IN): Disbarred. Convicted of felony in Illinois
Urura Mayers (Memphis, TN): Public Reprimand. Failure to supervise staff who had access to trust account. Staff used it to pay personal expenses.
Richard Johnson (Wiggins): Disbarred. See below.
Ramel Cotton (Jackson): Disbarred. Embezzled client funds. JJ reported this story.
Charlene Mauk-Williams (Terry): Disbarred. Felony conviction for neglect of a minor.
Connie Easterly (Baton Rouge, LA): Suspension. Reciprocal discipline from Louisiana.
Randolph Walker (Corinth): Suspended. Didn't communicate with client. Walker gave $1,000 to client that she thought was an advance on her settlement. She never received her settlement proceeds nor did Walker pay any of her medical bills with settlement. Walker did not respond to the complaint. The order does not state whether he kept the money for himself.
Sybil Byrd (Jackson): Irrevocable resignation. She is barred from seeking reinstatement.
Issac Byrd, Jr. (Jackson): Public Reprimand. Did not keep client informed on a 2012 case and did not respond to bar complaint.
Martin Perkins (Jackson) Public Reprimand. Did not speak to client for two years after she signed petition to open estate. He also did not file a wrongful death suit. In a separate case, Perkins did not keep his client informed in a divorce action nor did he return phone calls. Perkins suffered from "health issues."
J. Adam Miller (Ocean Springs): Public Reprimand. Client hired Miller for representation in a DUI case. Miller did not inform client he was suspended from the practice of law.
Torrance Colvin (Washington, D.C.): Disbarred. Reciprocal action.
Sean Mount (Metairie, LA): Suspension but deferred, reciprocal action with Louisiana.
Eduardo Flechas (Jackson): Disbarred. This is a long one. Start reading on page 7 below.
John Anderson (Hattiesburg): Public Reprimand. Suspended in 2017. Client hired Anderson to stop a garnishment based on forged loan documents in 2012 and to sue ex-wife who forged documents. Anderson didn't file suit and allowed statute of limitations to expire.
Kenneth Grigsby (Tupelo): Public Reprimand. Did not respond to bar complaint or appear at disciplinary hearing.

Muni court judges are not supposed to refer to themselves as judges in every day practice.
Jealous? Why would I be jealous of him? I'm not the one fabricating cases against Belhaven or Rankin County Schools. I'm not the one making up phony statements in Tupelo and trying to start a race war between the Tupelo police and the black community. Don't blame me for doing the media's job. They rush to every one of his press conferences and fall for it and then fail to follow up on how the case turns out, even when he gets in trouble or the case quietly disappears.
I really don’t understand why this is news. Hell I thought the article was about Mississippi attorneys. And that wouldn’t be a surprise.

The MS Bar magazine lists every public, private reprimand, suspension and disbarment with very very detailed descriptions of everything that happened in said case. It’s the only part of the magazine I read. Getting a subscription is probably easier than a public records request and will have more details.
I don't feel better. Am I supposed to? Nobody recognizes any of these names, while the true repetitive scoundrels roam free.

KF, thanks for taking the time to dig this up and share. I think it's one of the great failures of major media how little effort they put into following up on things and show that people are actually held accountable for the wrong they do, unless it's someone from a political side they don't favor or some particularly salacious story.
Oh yes, the Mississippi Lawyer. See, the public doesn't know it can look up bar disciplines in that mag. Other states post disciplinary actions online and even include a searchable database. Not Mississippi. There is an "ethics & discipline" tab on the website but guess what? No actual sanctions are reported.
To find the Mississippi Lawyer, you have to click on members, then publications, and then the magazine. Completely layman friendly.
The Mississippi Lawyer used to be in a pdf format but some time ago switched to an online viewer. Can't download it. Can't read it. It's in very small print. Is there a zoom option? Nope. You have to go into your browser to enlarge the small text.
As for your statement about the mag providing more details, that is simply not true. I am looking at them both right now and they are the same.
Wait, I'm wrong. The private reprimands are listed on the magazine. The Bar did NOT provide them to me despite my asking for all lawyer disciplines in 2020.

You harm your client, fail to do your job and get a public "reprimand". What a joke the bar disciplinary board is. You almost have to kill someone to get the bar to do a damn thing.

for some reason, the bright line of it perhaps, that is the quickest way to suspension & disbarment, even if you don’t spend a cent of it
(happily I’ve worked at larger firms where I never had to stress about such things)
I usually don't leave a comment, but everything is not what it seems. Flechas was disbarred for refusing to pay client monies to a case funding company (hedge fund). This started the ball rolling and when sued Flechas refused to follow a court order. This refusal angered Judge Jordan and the Mississippi Bar took a special interest in making sure Flechas was reprimanded. Heck, we all know the Mississippi Bar only pursues selective cases. Although I do not condone what Flechas did as far as the court order, I think he was correct in refusing to pay out client funds to hedge funds. I have had experience with Flechas and know he does not play well with others. However, on the other hand, he is probably the smartest lawyer I have ever known, hands down. I hate to see such legal talent wasted over politics and the desire for revenge. I'm sure Flechas will be fine, though. I understand he owns a massive amount of real estate in South America which recently attracted the attention of the U.S. State Department.
