MEMA Director: Vaccine Scheduling Problems Will be Fixed "Very Quickly"

CALL CENTER #: 877-978-6453

Demand for Covid-19 vaccines overwhelmed the state's ability to schedule vaccines.  Thankfully, help is on the way.  MEMA Director Greg Michel said scheduling problems should be fixed within 48 hours as capacity is expanded.

The Director admitted demand swamped the website in a Facebook video this morning.  UMC built the website to handle only 5,000 users at one time.  He asked for patience over the next 48 hours as "fixes" are implemented.  The call center's capacity will be expanded as well. Call center capacity will be expanded "four times" and should be at "max capacity" within 48 hours.

Mr. Michel said if there are no appointments available, users can get on a wait list.  He said some private clinics should get the vaccine within three to five days.

I thought they were out of Vaccine. I am confused.

Agree. What good is an appointment if there's no vaccine. A group of Eagle Scouts could have done better, all around.

"I thought they were out of Vaccine. I am confused."

So are they.

They have reservations for all of the vaccine doses that are on hand, but they are not out of vaccine doses. The story of them running out of vaccine has been incorrectly quoted ad nauseum on social media.

Dear God.... A little understanding goes a LONG way... if it was running smoothly or if there were an abundance of appointments y'all would have some jackleg remarks as well. You'll never be satisfied. How about y'all volunteer to go run the operation since y'all are all such EXPERTS??

UGH Keyboard warriors KILL ME!!

and no... I'm not affiliated with any of these people at MEMA, MDHS, GOV, Legislature, etc.. I couldn't give a rats patutie about them but I am concerned about the lack of understanding that my fellow Mississippians seem to possess.

11:43, please explain.???????

Director Michel you had months to prepare. You knew vaccines were coming and you still were not prepared. Good gosh man.

At least they are getting the vaccines into people's arms. Better to give it to some people who are at a lesser risk than to have it sitting on shelves, and that is exactly what was happening. I signed up on Tuesday night for a Wednesday appointment. Lots of slots that were going unfilled prior to them opening the floodgates.

Teachers are pissed off though. They were supposed to be in the second priority group after the 75+ got theirs, and now 65+ and those with underlying health conditions have been bumped up over them. Of course, just like with most Mississippians, many teachers have underlying health conditions too and can get vaccinated as soon as more supplies are available.

Within a week, EVERYBODY is going to claim an "underlying" condition. As in, I don't want to be 6 feet UNDER too soon, so I'm LYING about this condition.

The Covid vaccine has become like an "Emotional Support Animal." Everyone wants Fluffy to fly free and they really, really, really need little Snookums with them.

Meanwhile, our healthcare folks are busting their behinds, month after month. Praise to them.

Hopefully we get some good videos of throwdowns between 400 pound dope smokers and GrandMa as this deteriorates.

I'm going to sign up, right after I print out a handicapped sticker and don my neck brace and fake cast I used for the local "plaintiff's attorney."

11:28 - learn to read. Or learn to understand if your Dick and Sally book is finished.

The DOH has announced, and said multiple times, IF YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT, WE HAVE VACCINE AVAILABLE FOR YOU.

Understand? They were only scheduling appointments for the amount of vaccine they currently have on hand. Once more vaccine is shipped, they will begin scheduling more appointments.

So - if you still don't understand - they only scheduled appointments for the amount of product they currently have.

That's what good an appointment is - the appointment means they have the product. They don't have any more, so they stopped making more appointments.

Granted, some private proviers (Baptist, e.g.) evidently made more appointments than they had supply available and are having to cancel appointments that they made. But that is not what MEMA Director is referring to here.

But thanks for your in-deapth question.

@158, you evidently forget - these appointments are being made by the very people that have your medical records. They will know if your 'underlying medical condition' actually exists.

Maybe you can tell them that you got your neck brace across the line in Louisiana - but that whiplash you incurred coming out of Richard Schwartz's office does not qualify you for the advanced placement.

1:58 While I appreciate everything our healthcare folks have been doing, one of the reasons everything was opened up is because Healthcare workers aren't getting them in large numbers.

It’s going to zero 1:58 pm

Zero

It’s the flu

Why are you so worried?

You don’t need the shot.

It’s all a hoax.

Suck on Clorox and hydrokloraqueen

Why are you so upset?

It’s a nothing burger with nothing sauce and a side of nothing fries.

Shouldn’t you be in DC trying to help Trump kill Americans?

Jeez

" Teachers are pissed off though"

Teachers are always pissed.
(About everything) .

But since they can now teach a class from their home, there are no longer first line anything.

If they had put Kroger and Walmart in charge, this would be done by now. Get your groceries and shot in one-stop.

Copied from WLBT yesterday (note that more vaccine was not expected until mid-February):
-------------------------
No more appointments: State’s vaccine supply fully committed

A day after expanding the criteria for those eligible to get their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, the state has now suspended appointments. The state announced that every dose currently in stock is “tied to an actual vaccination.”

Those wanting to register for an appointment must now wait weeks before the state receives another shipment of the vaccine, which is not expected until mid-February.
-----------------------------

So . . . what changed?

Anonymous said...

708 - here is what changed. Many thousands, no tens or hundreds of thousands are going to get their vaccine three or four weeks ahead of when they were originally scheduled. All the vaccines on hand are in the q to be used, not waiting in freezers. Not everybody over 65 is scheduled to get their shot, but a damn many more are today than were two days ago.

So. That's what changed. Understand now?

Keep checking. Appointment slots show up throughout the day...very fluid.

Covid Vaccine website was up and running when I got on at 5pm today to get an appointment for my first shot . It was MUCH improved over what I went through earlier in the week. After you answered the usual questions concerning age and health, a list of the places who had appointments came up along with the number of appointments available at each. I chose Trustmark Park. I think the dates available begin Feb 10. I chose Feb 11. Then I had to fill out a form, Name, address, phone numbers, date of birth, email address, etc. When it is completed you get an immediate email with your appointment info and a bar code with instructions to bring it with you when you come for your appointment. The screen says on, and there is an option to make another appointment. I made another one.

Now the bad news. There were many places listed with available appointments all over the state at 5pm. Many had 300+ appointments available including Trustmark Park and UMMC Flowood Clinic. About ten minutes later there were no appointments left at either of these places, and last time I looked there were no appointments left anywhere in the state.

I am guessing these appointments being available means they know more vaccine will be here and distributed by about Feb 10.

3:16 - In your lurch to admonish another poster, you addressed 11:48. There IS no post at 11:48. But, thanks for your in-depth analysis.

"@158, you evidently forget - these appointments are being made by the very people that have your medical records. They will know if your 'underlying medical condition' actually exists."

Absolutely wrong. Nobody has your medical records other than those who have seen you as a patient.

Well, it got fixed. Got an appointment for my second shot February 9th. 50 mile drive. Not perfect but they may open a closer option (which happened for my first shot).

We're back to a year ago, nobody heard about this virus. Today we're vaccinating people. Pity is they did not move as quickly with polio.

Thank you Jesus for whichever of my lamebrain forebears made the boat that day. What a country. And what a culture -- where the very most spoiled of children constantly whine and never get spanked.

If a product or service is free, YOU are what’s being sold. You are begging to take a shot that will make you a lifetime customer of the pharmaceutical industry.

Ken Basey said...

9:38 - Who in hell's bells said the vaccine is free? Nobody. What's been said it will be available at no cost to the consumer. Who do you think is paying for it? Why do you think pharmacies, clinics and other providers are knocking each other down to be in the administration loop? Simple...because they're being reimbursed by the vial to administer the drug.

And if you don't think we are already a lifetime customer of the industry, you're mistaken. We are. That includes you.

Anonymous said...

First I've heard or read that the MEMA or its Director are involved in the distribution pipeline. Last I read, it was being drop-shipped to providers and Tate was pissed about that.

PS: For the uninformed, 'drop shipped' means trucked directly from the provider to the customer, eliminating the pipeline of intermediaries.

The whole process will work more smoothly if governors and their minions don't have a damned thing to do with it.

It's Saturday. Called the number today and was really excited that I thought someone had answered. But, it was a recording of a lady's voice. Finally, giving out numbers, locations and web addresses, she said, "If you'd like to schedule an appointment, press 1". I Pressed 1 and got a man's voice who regurgitated the same numbers, locations and web address.

Next, I went to that web address. When it came to the question whether I'm a first responder, member of a healthcare team or doctor, I pressed 'no' and got a blank screen. Nothing more. Period.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
