Facetwit Bans President

The President will have to find something else to fuel his Twitter addiction.  Twitter suspended the President's account:

Facebook suspended the President as well:

The shocking events of the last 24 hours clearly demonstrate that President Donald Trump intends to use his remaining time in office to undermine the peaceful and lawful transition of power to his elected successor, Joe Biden.

His decision to use his platform to condone rather than condemn the actions of his supporters at the Capitol building has rightly disturbed people in the US and around the world. We removed these statements yesterday because we judged that their effect -- and likely their intent -- would be to provoke further violence.

Following the certification of the election results by Congress, the priority for the whole country must now be to ensure that the remaining 13 days and the days after inauguration pass peacefully and in accordance with established democratic norms.

Over the last several years, we have allowed President Trump to use our platform consistent with our own rules, at times removing content or labeling his posts when they violate our policies. We did this because we believe that the public has a right to the broadest possible access to political speech, even controversial speech. But the current context is now fundamentally different, involving use of our platform to incite violent insurrection against a democratically elected government.

We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great. Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete.

And yet the antifa, BLM, and ayatollah are still active. Jack and twatter hate the conservatives and will stop when trump and 75,000,000 that voted for him are in gulags

It’s unfortunate the Republican Party doesn’t have the courage to ban him as well. Pathetic.

Won't Glen Beck give the president all the band width he wants? And the Golden Microphone is just waiting for Mr Trump to speak to his supporters for 3 hours each day. Donald Trump shouldn't continue to play the victim part when so many avenues for connecting with his base are available.

when the government cannot censor first amendment free speech they simply get private companies to do it for them. this is a perfect example.
twitter and face book have recieved millions in corporate welfare and government subsidies over the last 10 years , and censoring trump is the payback.

OK 4:07. I took your challenge. And wasted ten minutes of an otherwide good day.

Either you have a reading problem or a comprehension deficit. While Twitter or Facebook may have received some local and/or state government subsidies for locating facilities and jobs in a community, that is no different than hundreds of thousands of other companies. Generally these subsidies have been in the form of tax rebates (property/state income/etc.)

First, these were not subsidies from the FEDERAL government - at least, not according to what I found following your instructions to Google the question. But even assuming that you want to follow this theory, literally hundreds of thousands of businesses have received similar or better subsidies for their 'job creation'.

To think that the federal government can demand "payback" and require these private companies to censure whomever they please is ludicrous. Even companies that receive billions of dollars in federal government contracts cannot be forced into such action. In the first place, who in government is it that you think can call this chit in from these companies? Nancy herself? Does she have to get agreement from Chuckie? What if AOC doesn't agree? How is this theory of yours supposed to work in real time?

No. Facebook, and Twitter, did this on their own. Their politics might not be any different than the list in the last paragraph, but they didn't do it on anybody's orders - except maybe their largest stockholder(s).

The question here is what are the stockholders of these publically traded companies going to have to say when these decisions may make the market cap plummet? Particularly if there are shareholders that swing a big enough stick and either don't give a damn about partisan politics but are looking at their personal bottom line as being the most important issue, or the other stockholders who's stick is also fairly large that does give a damn about who's speech is prohibited?

This is not a government deal, although many politicians may be happy with the action. But they can't even pass a budget spending our money that they control. How are they going to control things that they have no power over?

Keep them in the dark. And keep gaslighting them.

Twitter and FB did NOT censor hate speech. They censored ALL speech on their platform by the sitting President of the United States. The MSM has distorted much of what he says, as well. This is NOT journalism or freedom.

I can't stand Trump, personally, and I believe he has done untold damage to the Republican Party, purely for personal gain. Can't stomach him, but, I'd say the same about Kommie Kamala, the two faced Big Tech pawn.

That being said, he remains POTUS and the head of the GOP, and "liberal" folks who smugly prefer that THEIR chosen speech be propagated by Limousine Liberal oligarchs and the opposition be silenced should think twice. Or, perhaps, for a start.

Given the Chinese Communist Party's use of Big Tech to suppress, imprison, and kill opposing parties by the millions, you'd think so called Liberals would recall, "First, they came for...." before cheering censorship. Useful fools, and hypocrites.

The double standard is the scary part. The riots and burning down a city are justified because people were upset and needed an outlet. Protesting at the Capitol is criminal even though only a small group behaved poorly (criminally). Defund the police because they dared protect the cities that were burning. But, when people were in the Capitol, the police should have been prepared. Guns are bad...except when politicians need them to defend them from people entering the Capitol. Politicians on the left can say whatever they want on Twitter, but DT was banned when he did. Twitter can ban someone from saying things they disagree with, but a baker can’t deny a gay couple a cake. Plus, we are pushing to impeach a president that will be out of office in 10 days. He has no power at this point. Why spend the time or money and further divide the country? Oh yeah, he can’t run again if he’s impeached.

Some of you clowns here really surprise me. After what has gone on for the last four years you think closing down free speech was a responsible act? Anyone who doesn’t see that this is right out of 1930s Germany hasn’t read a history book! And those who forget history (or haven’t bothered to read) are doomed to repeat it. When any political party is subjugated and banned from speech simply because another political party thinks their evil, then civil war is not far off. Anyone who thinks this is nonsense will be the first to fall. We will see just long America lasts.

Anonymous said...

Banning Trump was the least of my concerns of the Big Tech power grabs over the weekend. Far more concerning acts were the collusion among Apple, Google, Twitter, and Amazon to concertedly go after Parler. Normally, the Justice Department would be all over such an action; however, we can no longer rely on the rule of law. No matter what side of the aisle you agree with, you are un-American if you believe limiting a competing business from access to its users is okay based upon some market restricting, ambiguous rules.

Anonymous said...

The entire debate over social media and limits on speech is a perfect example of how four years of Trump has atrophied the Republican Party’s ability to make principled arguments on behalf of conservatism. The cult of personality is so deep and invested in one deeply flawed man that the party can't even articulate a platform other than "whatever Trump says".

The proper conservative answer to the Trump vs. FB/Twitter fight is that private companies cannot be forced to do business those whose beliefs they find objectionable, whether they’re baking a cake or posting inflammatory social media messages.

“ Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

The first amendment doesn’t, has never, and will never protect what you post on Twitter, Facebook, or anywhere else online unless you own and operate your own personal web server. The amendment only protects you from the government meddling with free speech. As far as Twitter goes, anything you post on there can be deleted for the same reason a gas station owner can paint over a graffiti in a restroom. Its their property, and they can do with as they want. To rant about a social media platform moderating the content on their site is equivalent to crying that the local paper chose not to print your letter to the editor. Just because they have the ability to, doesn’t mean they have too. Just like Kingfish doesn’t have to let comments be posted if he doesn’t want to. If you don’t like it, start your own blog. If you want to violet terms of service of your provider, start your own web server.

It blows my mind to hear the GOP bitch to Fox News about not being able to self-publish, for free, all of their bullshit on someone else's Internet platform and/or servers (looking at you here Devin Nunes). To hear people equate Facebook and Twitter accounts with freedom of speech shows just how far down we have gone.

January 10, 2021 at 3:21 PM

Actually, the debate is whether Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc should be treated as news platforms that need to offer the same equal time required by traditional news services? Newspapers are dying, TV news ratings are the lowest ever, and a majority of us get our news via some type of online platform or links to news services that have the stories. And we are going to have to rely more and more on the internet for everything we do. Thus, the problem with Twitter and FB censuring the Hunter Biden story right before the election. Suppressing news outlet searches for stories that were against Biden. News used to be news on all news services. Now, a cabal of news outlets and silicon valley CEO's set the news agenda as they see fit. In reality, it has nothing to do with Trump. Yet, what Democrats learned is that he was able to circumvent the news cabal and go straight to the people using social media. And that put the fear of God in them because it disrupted their power.

To your second point, you are right that should be the conservative answer, and I've seen plenty of those on the left mention this. Therefore, we should agree that if an owner of a football team or NBA team wants his player to stand at the National Anthem, or wear green beenies while they play, they can. They are private business owners, who pay their salaries and not one 'employee' has to work for that 'company.' They could always quit and get another job.

You know Obama made many inflammatory remarks. BLM shot 5 cops in Dallas. A guy shot up the republicans at a baseball practice. Antifa dude shot a trump supporter a few months ago. And on and on...

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
