Coldwater Clerk Embezzled $216,401

State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement.

State Auditor Shad White’s office participated in a joint investigation which led to the arrest and prosecution of George Nangah, former town clerk of Coldwater in Tate County. Details about the case can be found in a press release issued by the United States Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of Mississippi.

“I’m grateful that we have already been able to collect $50,000 of the over $200,000 that Mr. Nangah stole. He is also here in our country illegally, and the proper authorities have been made aware,” said State Auditor Shad White.

In addition to federal crimes, Nangah still faces a sentencing hearing after entering a guilty plea for state crimes in November 2019.

The Justice Department issued the following statement as well.

A man hired as the City Clerk for the Town of Coldwater was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison on Wednesday for Wire Fraud. U.S. District Judge Debra M. Brown sentenced George Nangah to serve the 21-month prison term consecutive to any state court term of imprisonment imposed in the Tate County Circuit Court and to pay $216,401.28 in restitution to the Town of Coldwater.

Nangah was hired to be the Town of Coldwater, Mississippi City Clerk, and over the course of three years, from 2014 to 2017, Nangah utilized an unauthorized Town of Coldwater debit card to purchase gift cards for airline tickets, hotels, and retail stores, none of which were used for the benefit of the Town of Coldwater. Nangah also used a charge account in the Town of Coldwater’s name at Best Buy, where Nangah purchased electronic equipment and gift cards not used or meant for use by the Town of Coldwater. Nangah made unauthorized payments to himself as well as one other person on the Town of Coldwater’s Clearing and General Fund bank accounts. Overall, $216,401.28 of loss was attributed to Nangah.

U.S. Attorney William C. Lamar noted that this prosecution was important for citizens throughout the State of Mississippi. “The citizens of Mississippi put a great deal of trust in our government employees and elected officials to utilize resources in a way that benefits the State and its residents. When city officials like Mr. Nangah take those resources and use them for their own personal gain, it is a betrayal of our State and every resident that they pledged to serve when they accepted their positions. Our office will continue to work alongside our federal, state and local partners to hold accountable those individuals who betray the public trust, steal our resources and embarrass our State” Lamar remarked.

This case was investigated by both the State of Mississippi Office of the State Auditor and the FBI. Following the sentencing, State Auditor Shad White also expressed the commitment of his office to holding accountable those individuals who betray the citizens that they were hired to serve. "It's good to see Mr. Nangah sentenced in this case that started as a joint investigation between the Auditor's office and federal agencies. Mr. Nangah embezzled hundreds of thousands of dollars from a small Mississippi town and engaged in multiple fraudulent schemes that hurt taxpayers who could not afford to see their money wasted."

FBI Jackson Division Special Agent in Charge Michelle A. Sutphin also noted the importance of this prosecution. “Government officials are held to a higher standard and are expected to be good stewards of taxpayer money. When criminals use their position to line their own pockets, it erodes the public’s trust in government. Investigating public corruption in Mississippi continues to be a top priority for the FBI,” commented Sutphin.

The federal case was prosecuted by AUSA Parker S. Kline.

If anyone has driven through the town of Coldwater lately, one can see that there isn't much over $200,000 collectively in the whole town.

Side note: the restaurant Ro'Chez that used to be in Madison moved a few miles up the road north of Coldwater on Hwy 51. Very odd as there is literally nothing there.

It appears Shad is suffering from Coldwater Derangement Syndrome.

That town is run by a real brain trust. They hired a friggin' illegal alien and gave him the city checkbook.

But at least they are inclusive.

Bwa, ha, ha...

Go Shad!

How did they get a surety bond on an illegal alien? Shad stated earlier that he would go after the bonding company.
Take all his possessions and send him back to his own country. No reason to house and feed this guy.

Way to go Shad! Keep the pressure on. Honest taxpayers thank you for your efforts.

Usually it's easy to find arrest pictures. Had to really search for his.

The North west area of Mississippi is SATURATED with corruption. One example: You got a community college there, where the piss ant lawyer that represents them has a son who is the Ways and Means Chairman in the Legislature (and was on the Appropriations committee! WTF), and his wife was a supreme court justice that now sits on the IHL that doles out the money!

Just how many conflicts of interest can a community tolerate in that inbred situation? Corrupt to the bone....and with deep deep racist roots, all of them. But hey, they all go to the same church together, so shhh....just Wink, Nod, Smile and please don't say anything....they're just good God-fearing folk. Not a very good example for the young people attending that school. Complete horseshit. Let's see if the new Ethics Committee says anything about it......gutless turds.

Missed the "Coldwater Clerk in Hot Water" opportunity.

4:46, the family tree you attempt to diagram makes one think that your tree must fork pretty close to the base.

Check your facts on the relationships you mention, then tell us why you think these relationships mean anything that would justify the corruption you claim.

Lawyers represent clients; lawyers and others run for and get elected to the legislature.

The fact that a retired Justice was appointed to serve on the IHL Board means what?

Inquiring minds don't really give a shit about what you think is wrong here, but after you straighten out who is who, it would be at least a little bit interesting to see if you could tie these various tidbits into something that would at least be able to wind up as a ball of string.

If only the NEW Pallisades HOA Board loved there, this wouldn't have happened.

4:46 I’m from senatobia what absurd conclusions you are drawing about the lamars. I’m no super close friend of theirs but I gotta break this down. So what are you saying that is Ann awards money to state for colleges her son Trey then funnels it to northwest where Johnny steals it or some shit as their attorney? Think about how stupid that sounds.

So trey made a little bp money and maybe you are a little jealous? Me too bro but let’s watch the false witnessing.

Ro'Chez was at the railroad track on Jackson Street in Ridgeland, not Madison. That shack would never have been allowed in Madison The City.

6:06pm Triggered much? Sounds like you want to protect somebody...and by the way, inquiring minds always want to know....and conflicts of interest DO exist, and are a particular specialty in Mississippi.....where many are born, and inbred. So maybe it's nothing new for sure, but your defensiveness screams contempt for the truth....go back to church where you feel safe with your own "kind".

@10:38pm Well, well, well. Guess everyone can thank your for connecting the dots! Case in point: Conflict(s) of Interest

Legislator - Son Trey Lamar - Ways/Means Chair - Revenue-raising (taxes)
Retired Justice - Mom Ann Lamar - IHL Board Member - Higher Education Funding Attorney - Dad John Lamar - College Legal Rep. - State/Federal Compliance

Nah...no conflicts of interest at all..and no "false" witness....merely an objective, measurable, and visible observation. When you're dealing with hundreds of millions of dollars, it doesn't pass the perception or smell test.....and Mississippi sits and the bottom while the wheels of the bus go round and round.

Who the hell hires a foreign national without running a background check and at least ensuring that he meets the mandated federal legal requirements for the ability to work in the United States? Those requirements are simple. They're federally mandated law.

He has, according to the above, been identified as an illegal alien. Whoever in the personnel office who on-boarded him and falsified the federal form as viewing his documents has violated federal law.

@2:15 if you have ever spent much time around Coldwater, the legal constituents would make Kenneth Stokes sound like a Rhodes Scholar. The foreign national was probably one of those lesser of two evils situations.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
