Hinds County Election Thread
We got us some knockdowns going on in Hinds County elections. The big one is the Sheriff's race. Everyone wants to vanquish Victor. Well, paying out $330,000 for sexual harassment, lying about child murder, killing K-9's through incompetence, and letting inmates run the jail tend to bring challengers out of the woodwork. Who will it be? The Chief, the Marine, the Green, or some unknown darkhorse. Then there is the District Attorney's race. We got us a prosecutor, criminal defense lawyer, and a social justice warrior who thinks we lock up too many criminals in Hinds County. Makes you feel safer, doesn't it. The Taxman actually has some opposition this year. Then there are the supervisors.
Charges Dismissed Against Abortion Protestors
A Jackson Municipal Court judge dismissed charges against several abortion protestors. JPD arrested Dr. Coleman Boyd, nephews Bo and Luke, and niece Sarabeth Boyd last December for various charges of stalking and simple assault to create fear. The group was protesting outside Jackson Women's Health Organization, the only abortion clinic in Jackson.

A Wolfe in Physician's Clothing
An affidavit paints a picture of a doctor who saw himself as a prize stud for his female patients instead of a physicians entrusted with their care. The Mississippi Board of Medical Licensure suspended indefinitely the license of Dr. Walter Wolfe last week. A Board investigator submitted the affidavit to the agency. Dr. Wolfe agreed to the suspension and avoided an evidentiary hearing. He can apply for reinstatement after one year under the statute. Dr. Wolfe did not appear at the hearing.

Poll: Tate Leads Waller 41-31.
A new Mason-Dixon poll suggests there is a strong possibility of a runoff between Tate Reeves and Bill Waller, Jr. in the Republican gubernatorial primary next week. It appears the spat with Larrison Campbell boosted Robert Foster's fortunes as he received 13% of the votes. The sample was 500 likely Repubican voters.

JPS Has a Plan

Wolfe Suspended Indefinitely
The Mississippi Board of Medical Licensure suspended indefinitely the license of Dr. Walter Wolfe. Dr. Wolfe agreed to the suspension and avoided an evidentiary hearing. Arrest reports provide more information about a Facebook video of a Mississippi Highway Patrol arrest near Starkville earlier this month. Troopers arrested Robert Andre Morton on July 12 for speeding at 102 mph, resisting arrest, failure to provide drivers license on demand, disorderly conduct, and violation of the child restraint law. JJ obtained the reports through a public records request.

A Madison County grand jury indicted a former pastor of Broadmoor Baptist Church for 14 counts of embezzlement last month. Riley Brown served as Executive Pastor for the church from 2014 to 2017. Broadmoor accused him of embezzling $332,000 and fired him in 2017.

Double Carjacker Pleads Guilty
Javaris Thompson will only serve six years in prison after he pleaded guilty to two counts of armed carjacking in Hinds County Circuit Court today. One of Thompson's victims was only eight years old. Fortunately for Thompson, Hinds County Circuit Judge Adrienne Wooten sentenced him to serve 15 years in prison concurrently for each count but suspended 7 years of each sentence. She gave him credit for time served in the Hinds County Detention Center. He became a resident of Raymond in March, 2017.

Weed was used as a means to keep blacks under control. This argument has been spotted before but it continues to linger. Time to put a knife the heart of this urban myth.

Bill Crawford: Finally a Republican A.G.?
The last and only Republican to hold the office of Attorney General in Mississippi was George E. Harris back in 1877. As Republicans began their surge to take over statewide offices in the early 1990s, Mike Moore and Jim Hood easily held on to the position for Democrats.
Odds are that’s about to change.
