Flashback Friday

If are you of a certain age, you remember the shame of the Iranian hostage crisis that lasted for over a year.  The military suffered one of its worst humiliations ever with the Desert One disaster.  Little remembered is what the savages did afterwards.

The Mullahs took the bodies of the eight men who died during the operation and put them on display for the whole world to see.  A true exhibition of their nature if there ever was one.   Something to remember as we fight Iran.

As much as I hate $4.00 gas, I will pay it to reset the middle east to include a no Nuke Iran. Carter should have done years ago.

I remember that crap very well.

Thank the Lord, Trump is the first real man to confront these radical extremists.

This should have been done fifty years ago.

Thank you Mr. President

Yet the blue-haired nose rings who go apoplectic over any perceived micro-aggression will not hesitate to march in support of that regime.

I thought LBJ was the most incompetent president until Carter came along. That is, until the senile old beach bum got elected. I think I'm just going to have to call a three-way tie.

to this day i have never figured out why ronbo Reagan didn't bloody those stinking mullahs.

A little trivia question: what popular TV program sprung from the Iranian hostage situation?

I remember the 1979-1980 situation very well. I did not feel "shame" any more than a store owner should feel 'shame" over some thug robbing them. As to who should have gotten sporty with the Ayatollah(s) in Iran, it was as much on Reagan as it was on Carter. But that has very little to do with the situation Trump and Co. have created. From a pretty knowledgeable perspective, Trump and Co. have F'ed up badly. It isn't that the "Iranian regime" doesn't need to go, it's the ill-conceived methodology. At the end of the day, who F'ed up probably won't matter a great deal after the elections in November as it will be a completely different situation as far as the US role in the "war."

The Democrats want to sit back and wait til Iran hits us with a nuke. The first thing out of their mouth would be why didn’t Trump do something about it!

If only the CIA hadn’t staged that coup in 1953 because the Iranians wanted to nationalize their own oil reserves this entire timeline might be different.

9:52, aside from hating Trump, please tell us how he “F’ed up” this “war”. Seriously. He has completely neutralized the worst rogue nation in the world and a prolific spreader of terrorism. He has, for the foreseeable future, eliminated their chance of developing nukes. His blockade is very effectively choking Iran and pushing them towards the critical point when they run out of oil storage capacity and have to shut down wells, which would be a huge logistical nightmare for them. All this has been accomplished with relatively little pain on our side. And please don’t whine about paying a few extra dollars at the pump, especially when I’m sure you said nothing when it was higher under Biden (or whoever was running the country for him at that time).

Among our numerous investments are oil and gas interests, so a high price per bbl is a blessing and a curse. However, it isn't just the price "at the pump" of gasoline that $100-plus barrel crude affects. Trump & Co's blathering, and the parroting of that blathering, shows a complete lack of understanding of just about everything related to "oil," in-ground, produced, or production. But let's put "oil" aside for the purposes of this reply, even though it is a very large factor in Trump & Co's F'ing this up.

He/they have done none of what you claim, and Iran was not "the worst rogue nation in the world" by any reasonable measure. Iran was no (existential) threat to any nation except Israel, but even with a nuke or two, they could not eliminate Israel (and it is unlikely any of the then or current leadership would attempt to do it). Certainly, Israel is an "friend and ally" of the US, and the leaders in Iran and of the IRGC were "heated" in their rhetoric, but the actual, on-the-ground threat was not as large or immediate as the rhetoric implied. On top of which, the Arab nations were neither friends or supporters of Iran (both leaders and as a nation/people). Iran was akin to a feral cat in the garage - yes, it could cause some damage as well as piss and shit on the floor, but it was contained - it wasn't tearing up the living room, bedrooms, etc. As to nukes, none of what was or now is the ruling class (and it was a fairly large group) would fire a nuke even if they had one because they all knew and understand it would be an instant, massive, and rule/nation-ending response from what would have been a largely unified group of powers, including the US, Europe, China, (probably) India, much of Asia (certainly Japan, S. Korea, Taiwan, etc.), obviously Israel. Maybe - maybe - an largely-impotent Russia might - might - have not joined, but since it is largely impotent, it wouldn't have mattered anyway. The bottom line is that this "war" will cost the US 100s of billions of dollars, all-in, and cannot produce the results Trump & Co have claimed. "Cannot" is the correct term because much of what has been claimed but has not occurred is in the past.

About that so-called Coup. The Prime Minister had dismissed Parliament and was allowing the communists to take over the streets. He was disbanding institutions left and right.

As for Tucker Carlson, don't waste your time trying to post his crap here. He will be treated the same as David Duke or Calypso Louis. After what he said about American troops going on a mass raping spree if there was unconditional surrender, there is no place for his words here. He deserved a good flogging for that one. Then there is his defending militant Islam lately.

"As for Tucker Carlson..."

Herein lies one of the many problems with this "war" - whether it's Carlson, Trump, Schumer, Warren, AOC, etc., and even Hegseth, folks with no military training or experience (or in Hegseth's case, no command experience) attempting to prosecute a war, or attempting to offer guidance on it, without close consultation with those who have at least SOME experience is a recipe for disaster. And before anyone goes singing the praises of Hegseth, his military experience was not as a combat commander/planner/strategist. Being a combat soldier is not the same thing AT ALL and being a junior officer who happened to get near a little hostile fire is not remotely the same experience as a commander. In fact, a career sergeant who had fair actual combat experience would likely make a better "battlefield promotion," especially to Secretary of Defense/War, than a junior officer with Hegseth's (lack of) experience. One particular thing about Hegseth that has troubled me and others since he was first nominated - no sane person who has seen real war is eager to see it again. A military needs gung-ho soldiers, but it needs thoughtful commanders, hesitant, even reticent, to engage in "war," viewing it as the last resort after exhausting all other options.

Where are you getting your information from? Is there a new comic book out that I do not know about? You seem to know what Iran would do. Are you from Iran or a member of its leaders? Who has been giving you information about what was and is going on in Iran?

May 2, 2026 at 11:48 AM, don't expect a reply. That post was written from a very juvenile understanding of the Middle East situation, and how the oil industry really works. They think they will be judged as knowledgeable from their many words, when in fact they haven't said anything.

9:52 won't acknowledge that:
1. Iran, N.Korea, Russia & China officially, militarily allied before our actions against Iran.
2. Iran has declared it's desire to destroy Israel and America steadily and repeatedly for 47 years.
3. If Iran can massacre 40,000 of its own unarmed people, it would not hesitate to nuke us once the weapons were available.
4. Though Iran is struggling to re-establish a power structure now, thanks to Trump and IDF, all of its power seeking factions are fanatic Shia Islamist terrorists who are more than willing to nuke their Islamic neighbors, Israel, Europe and USA.
5. No Democrat in leadership for that party has a plan to prevent nuclear annihilation by Iran, other than perhaps dropping pallets of cash on them and otherwise paying them extortion. Trump is exercising the most practical roadblock to a near-future Iranian sponsored apocalypse of all its perceived enemies, while at the same time, showing mercy to Iran's innocent civilians.

What makes war so bad nowadays is all of the rules countries have to follow. I often wonder who made up all of the rules. I think if you are going to declare war on another country that means you are trying to destroy the other country. But the rules of war makes that impossible. I would like to know if they are so many rules of war why haven't they made a rule that there could not be anymore wars.

Oops. Wrong even if for no other reason than here is a reply. In any case, note that there is no rebuttal in the response, only ad hominem "you're wrong!" with no counter-points. FWIW and here it isn't worth much, I have a fair amount of personal experience and knowledge about the "Middle East" and the oil industry but this really isn't the place for an in-depth discussion of this because very few here are interested and even fewer could speak from personal experience. I will point out that is very amusing that would-be critics consider 2-3-4 paragraphs "a lot of words." If you think you are informed and you are using a phone to become what you think is informed, you are...misinformed, and badly so.

Probably 1000s of them. Maybe check in with another of your fellow travelers, "Krusatyr." I'll allow him? her? it? them? to weigh in on the cape situation. It is clear that you two have all sorts of things in common. Maybe get a room and see where it goes.

KF, you really need to start inviting a better class of troll to these little get-togethers. It's 2026 and semi-literate mouth-breathers just won't cut it anymore. The Trump administration, along with Congress, proves that several times a day. I understand it's hard, with any idiot able to go online with nothing more than a financed phone, but it can be done.

"Cannot is the correct term because much of what has been claimed but has not occurred is in the past.“

9:13, Kamala would be so proud of that statement. I know you hate Trump (and I don’t like the arrogant prick either), but don’t let your hatred force you to take a stand that is contrary to all evidence. Iran IS a rogue nation, would be VERY dangerous with nukes, and HAS been neutralized. You remind me of Monty Python’s Black Knight, who insists his severed arm is “‘tis but a scratch”.

A little better, but still weak. IAC, wrong on so many levels. I don't "hate" Trump. I didn't say Iran wasn't a "rogue nation," I said it is not the "worst rogue nation in world" because it is not. Iran would not be much more "dangerous," much less "VERY dangerous," with "nukes" because even if it had them the chances of it ever launching even one are infinitesimally small (and the relative damage they could do directly with what they could produce is contextually minimal). In fact, Iran possessed (and still possesses) enough conventional weaponry to destroy and damage more than it could with even a few low order (in simple terms) "nukes." Which leads to: Iran has not been "neutralized."

The earth and everything on it is in much more danger from the large number of high-order (again, in simple terms) "nukes" possessed by the US, China, and especially and currently Russia than it is by little pissants like North Korea, Iran, etc. The US and China are generally system-stable enough that a loss of effective control is extremely unlikely (although not impossible), but Russia is currently wobbling again. While it is, like after the fall of the USSR, pretty unlikely to result in any "mishaps" prior to controls being reestablished, the Putin dictatorship falling could produce some nail-biters. There are enough sane folks in Russia that it is very unlikely that Putin ordering any type of nuclear strike would be carried out (and he'd likely get the Beria retirement plan if he tried).

Oh, gosh, I'm laid low by a true renaissance...person...of innumerable worldly experiences and vast education. Seriously, KF, and I understand it isn't all on you, but really now...trolling-slash-castigation involving "The View?" That is a clear failure of management. It's a corollary to Godwin, reductio ad TheView if you will, or really, just plain ol' horseshit.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
