There will be a new route for the St. Paddy's Day parade next year.
The new route will make it easier for law enforcement to keep order.

Just cancel it, the rabble has already destroyed a once great parade
It's perfect! It touches on all of the attractions to downtown.
That's not a bad route. I know the anti-Jackson everything crowd will poo poo it, but if this helps the police keep it safe, so be it.
What attractions are downtown?
Just move it to Madison
Move it to a safer location
They did that. It sucked bad. Sweet potato queens thought the whole thing revolved around them. Nobody bothered to come. Let Madison be what Madison is, a great place to have a home within a 30 minute drive of fun things to do.
Maybe the new route will put the parade outta range of the firefights...
Queen Mary not doing ANYTHING to attract "outsiders ", even if it means there is relatively nothing to do for the residents of the most affluent area in MS. It is what it is, she wants it that way and apparently her constituents are just fine with what they have and don't have, entertainment be damned.
7:07. There’s nothing fun to do in Benton.
The parade has come down Court Street for a long time. There’s nothing there besides the courthouse really. I’m guessing this change avoids the Jody Owens and family block of businesses?
Iremember when we used to start WAAAAAAAAYYYYYY down in the fairgrounds, like halfway to the COL. It was AWESOME!!
When people talk about needing "stuff to do" they are usually talking about doing something sinful! Something to keep in mind! Queen Mary has kept Madison a very special place by attracting special people. All the haters and losers outside of Madison wouldn't understand and that's ok!
8:51 PM, you sound way too young to have a clue, but you are 100% correct that “her constituents are just fine with what they have and don't have.”
7:07 PM, please do tell us what we’re missing out on nowadays in Jacktown. Having grown up here before an innocent helpless 6-year old was murdered/shot in the face and other innocent children were being killed with stray bullets, i.e. before Democrats purposely destroyed another city/Jackson, please, please do tell us.
I’m going. Just as soon as the route runs through George County or Wyoming.
@6:03
You hit the nail on the head as I have met a good many "special" people in Madison, and it seems as if I just met another one. There is nothing special about living in suburbia, or living in any location for that matter. However, I do realize that you need to pump yourself up to pay 425,000 bucks for a starter 3/2 ranch so, whatever helps you sleep at night!
People need to stop pretending Madison is some untouchable utopia. Go knock on doors. Olympic Drive, Cross Creek, Highway 51, St. Augustine, Rice Road—entire neighborhoods are HUD rentals and investor-owned homes. This isn’t rumor, it’s reality.
If Madison was really Eden 2.0, folks wouldn’t have been running for Livingston and Yazoo County the moment they could cash out.
Well, as a resident of a neighborhood near some of the aforementioned areas, I can tell you that you, sir, a full of shit. There are no "entire neighborhoods" that are as you mentioned. Your "reality" is based on prejudice and conjecture. The great thing? You don't have to come to Madison. We'll be just fine without your ilk.
6:03 - I'm thrilled that you're happy. Please stay in Madison. Jackson doesn't need or deserve you; we're like the opposite of Sunday School.
4:50 - Early parades started at George Street, which was just as much a part of the parade as Hal and Mal's.
I want some of what "Hookah" @7:50am is smoking LOL. Those neighborhoods are 90s cookie cutters and definitely not the nicest, but they CERTAINLY aren't HUD houses LMAO!
@7:30 AM, that's funny. The black middle class actually purchases houses in Madison and suddenly where they locate are HUD hoods.
Also, based on your comments I don't think you've been to Livingston in a long time, if ever.
Jackson doesn't need or deserve you ...
Remember that when we lobby our legislative representatives to not give you a dime more than you are per capita due. I'm sure John Horhn disagrees with your sentiment completely.
Why cancel it, it does no harm. They have shortened it to where it is already insignificant. If a few people want to waste their time and money on a virtually ignored ridiculous so called parade, so be it.
ignored? You obviously have not attended. The crowds are pretty incredible, even now.
Been once in 20 years. Smelt like draft puke and I frankly hated the concept of the snobby sweet tater "queens". Those gals thought their chit didn't stink. Rude and really bad tippers.
I took a youth marching band and was in the parade one year. There was a constant strong smell of weed the whole time. The parents that marched with us said we aren't going back (we never did). Note: I would reverse that direction on the map so everyone is marching DOWNHILL instead of UPHILL.
I think the thousands upon thousands of people that attend every year would disagree with every ignorant and misinformed opinion you decided to grace us with.
St. Augustine neighborhoods are some of the coolest actually. There is a secret neighborhood pool in there that is like from the movie Sandlot and amazing.
I'm curious to see how well enforced the grills/open flames ban will be this year. The route makes sense, although I'm interested to see how the experience changes with a reverse in the flow of traffic from my usual perch at the corner of West and Capitol
I'd be content with that hick town called Madison if they'd just synchronize the frickin' traffic signals.
