What was expected to be a night of fun turned into an evening of controversy at the Jackson Medical Mall Foundation's Legacy Gala on December 5 when the star performer, rapper David Banner, spoke his mind.
Mr. Banner apparently said what he really thought about his time living in Jackson, which didn't sit too well with some. Some social media comments are:
Although the Mississippi legend banned videotaping, a couple of bootlegs popped up on social media. Posted below is some of what Mr. Banner said.

Always offended but never ashamed.
Jackson is not a shithole because of the whites people in the burbs.
I'm surprised some Glocks didn't show up and reward him for dissing The Bold New City.
Have never heard of the guy. However, it is quite clear that he was educated here as he has zero command of the english language. I hope nobody that did went to his past performances axes him where he be from. Very sad. We can and must do better and properly educate our children so they don't make fools of themselves out in the english speaking world.
No class.
Well, I am shocked!
Invited a famous rapper and producer of rap 'music' (or 'poetry?') with some local ties to be the guest of honor at high class fundraiser?
Brilliant.
Absolutely brilliant.
What could go wrong?
Maybe they should have invited Lil Boosie or Lil Wayne instead?
His Mama named him LaVell Crump, and Imma call him Lavell Crump.
How much did the griftees pay for the privilege of this "elegance"? Enough weasel word BS on that flyer to tip off most critical thinkers, methinks.
Who gives a shit?? Seriously, other than a dozen or so folks that showed up for this nonevent.
It shouldn't have surprised anyone. The selection committee should be fire.
The even more moronic are the ones in the audience.
He's a rapper. There are no limits or proper conduct in that business. You get what he gives you, the more rude and vulgar the better. That's part of the business and they asked for it. They got it.
So, when did the elegance show up? Seems like Jackson can’t catch a break. Good for him for speaking his mind.
They should’ve invited Afroman instead.
Always keep a voice recording "pen" handy.
The poster advertising the event shows two people who look mad, disappointed, and/or disgusted -- what an uplifting invitation.. ?
Probably Ying-Yang Twins would be better, incorporate that element of "surprise." "Wait till you see my Speech."
Cadillac On 22s is a modern-day masterpiece. Maybe the best piece of music written in the last century. David Banner is a legend, a poet and a master of the universe. Get some.
Who? I swear, I've seen his personality in a Dave Chappell skit. He also doesn't have any room to be calling anyone fat.
A guys gets rich off of promoting an image of ghetto culture.
Then we're surprised when he acts ghetto.
It could be that the attendees expected to be helped into being disgusted about the usual targets.
Instead, back at them as they were the targets apparently!
I'm guessing you're from around here as well...
Never heard of him.
In all seriousness, what did they expect to happen?
A good lawyer never ask a question he didn’t already know the answer. Who invited this clown and why? We got to do better! I would have been an excellent host and I am real ignorant!
Your keynote speaker was a rapper? Idiots
I’m with 3:17; Stephanie and David put on their best gangsta look for the poster, and the gala attendees were surprised at what they got?
