Ag Commish Andrew Gipson issued the following statement.
Commissioner Gipson invites everyone to attend the 166th Mississippi State Fair and announces the schedule of events taking place tomorrow, Tuesday, October 7, through Wednesday, October 8, 2025. All events take place on the Mississippi State Fairgrounds.
Tomorrow,
the Mississippi State Fair will host the first-ever Disability Friendly
Day, sponsored by Joni & Friends,
from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This event will include sensory tents for
calm and quiet breaks; inclusive activities and entertainment; classic
fair favorites adapted for accessibility; and a Resource Carnival which
provides a fun environment to learn about the
many resources that are available to those who live with disabilities.
Disability Friendly Day is free of charge for families and individuals
impacted by disabilities. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged for
this event, though fairgoers can register at
the gates upon arrival. Register now at https://joniandfriends.org/
There will also be multiple working and herding dog shows held inside the Kirk Fordice Equine Center. Tomorrow, the Stock Dog Trial starts at 9:00 a.m. and the Stock Dog Cattle Trial will start at 6:00 p.m. The Stock Dog Trial returns on Wednesday, starting at 9:00 a.m. All three shows are free to the public.
Senior American Day at the Mississippi State Fair will be held on Wednesday, October 8, inside the Coliseum. The doors will open at 8:00 a.m. This annual event is open to all ages, with activities especially geared toward senior citizens. Several vendors and information booths will be in attendance including the Mississippi Department of Health; Mississippi Department of Human Services; Senior Medicare Patrol; The Elder Law Firm; Lincoln Heritage Life Insurance Company; Mississippi Library Commission; Mississippi Egg Marketing Board; Mississippi HomeCare of Jackson; and Humana. Also, the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s School of Nursing and St. Dominic Health Medical Center will provide free health screenings.
In addition to a concert by music legend Ronnie McDowell, two new, patriotic shows have been added to the entertainment lineup for Senior American Day this year. Pine Grove Church of Walnut Grove will present a historic, theatrical presentation, “For God and Country,” at 9:00 a.m., which will be followed by a special time of prayer for the nation in observance of the recently designated Day of Prayer and Rededication for America. Then, the musical performance “Let Freedom Ring!” will be presented by the First Baptist Jackson Choir and Orchestra at 10:00 a.m. Award-winning artist Ronnie McDowell will then wrap up celebrations with a performance at 11:00 a.m. Church and school groups are invited to attend; admission to Senior American Day is free.
The 166th Mississippi State Fair, which runs through October 13, is participating in the Great American State Fair initiative as part of the nationwide America250 celebrations. Fairgoers are encouraged to wear red, white and blue, and special, patriotic events will be held throughout the duration of the fair. Find the complete schedule of fair events at www.msstatefair.com. I really miss the new Fair since Commissioner Andy cleaned it up. I only return to Mississippi for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I always miss it. I need to make a special trip next year.
The Hat does a wonderful job with this annual event, but this is where he peaks. That's not intended as an insult.
I seriously think the legislature should split Parks out of the testosterone-laced Department of Deer and Crappie and add Parks to Ag, Commerce, Tourism. PACT. Parks have suffered greatly in this state being the stepchild to Crappie and Turkeys since forever. And he is the man to elevate our Parks to the national stage.
His talents would be wasted in the governor's office. Anybody can issue monthly news releases bragging about imaginary, demographically massaged education advances and which industry is breaking ground in Corinth, Vaiden and Laurel.
'Scuse me now...I'm headed over to the Tilt-A-Whirl.
