Another store bites the dust but it's not in Jackson.
Orvis is closing 36 of its 70 stores. The company blames tariffs for the closures.
Now where is one going to be able to buy a Barbour jacket in Jackson?

Barbours a-plenty at Kinkade's!
Great store for the few of us that fly fish. Could go and cast different fly rods outside of store. When I heard they were closing half their stores I knew figured ours would be one.
I’m confused; the letter says customers can be served in the future at orvis.com or “at our dealers in the Ridgeland area”, but that’s the store that’s closing.
I liked the Orvis store, have been in there multiple times, however, I don't think it had enough traffic to keep it open. As much as they want to blame tariffs, I'm willing to bet that online shopping is the major reason.
We loved the store, but kinda felt lately on a few items, the quality didn't match the price. Still sad to see it go.
They are closing half of their 75 stores.
Foolish to open an Orvis in Mississippi to begin with.
I literally just discovered this sport through a fellow traveller and now this store is closing! Is there to be nothing left for the White man to enjoy?
At a North Alabama mercantile I saw a $200 Orvis duffle with a "Made in China" tag. You can't charge boutique prices, at least most men, won't pay, for glorified counterfeit quality. I recently stepped into the Monkey at Rennaissance, most is polyester=plastic and made in the far east but they're asking a premium price. I will gladly shell out a few hundred for an heirloom quality American made item and I am far from rich but believe in value and quality No loss for me here.
Trumped
They call it the Jackson store even though it’s in Ridgeland. Bass Pro Shops in Pearl is an authorized dealer.
I bet it was because of crime
If the mayor and the city council don’t take crime more seriously more business will close of leave
@336 I think they mean other retailers that carry orvis stuff
@3:52pm why? Everyone I know wears Barbour and Orvis-style clothing. No need to belittle MS.
Closing half of their stores nationwide - all thanks to the tarrifs. Problem is, once the Supreme Court gets through with the tarriff lawsuit, they will all be reversed because the President (no President) has the authority to initiate them as he did. But by the time that ruling comes down next spring, the damage will have been done to stores big and small.
You'll be disappointed if you go looking for Orvis stuff at Bass Pro. That place has a lot of nothing.
You have no idea where this store is, do you?
Yeah...Orvis didn't realize that they were going to have a hard time pushing $200 khakis to people who know they can get the same quality for $60-$70. Sorry, Orvis. There just aren't enough people who are both rich AND stupid in central MS.
The letter says they are closing their Jackson store.
Bidened! After inflation doubled the price of everything, the overpriced clothing available there just isn’t worth it….
There used to be a fly fishing shop in Highland Village. Was that Orvis, before Renaissance opened?
@4:34: Bet?
Orvis shirt at the store $75.00. Orvis shirt at Costco $19.00. Hmmm- competition wins every time!
Sorry but Orvis clothes are nerdy like LL Bean. Unless you can market to the young crowd who mindlessly spend in stores like Apple and Lululemon, you won’t be successful in this day and age with expensive retail locations. Even if we had fly fishing rivers nearby, it still would be a gamble.
If the tariffs are the actual cause then no big deal. A small price to pay to no longer have the world grossly take advantage of us.
Dang, this was a nice store.
I’ve seen Orvis clothes at Costco.
This is just the beginning , more Trump bullshih is coming to your door soon!
To 4:09 “I bet it was because of crime” and your friend at 4:11 “If the mayor and the city council don’t take crime more seriously more business will close of (sic) leave”
Can you read? Post clearly says this is not Jackson. It is at a nice center in Ridgeland with little to no crime. Irrelevant anyway on this case. Trump Tariffs!

They’re closing the one on King St. in Charleston, SC it was funny to read all the TDS comments when it popped up. Interestingly during Biden Admin, lots of small stores were closed or are closing down in Waikiki, because of high rent and taxes, same for Puerto Rico, same for Guam, with less Japanese and Korean tourists arriving. Again this was happening during the Biden Admin, but according to the TDS smooth brains on the left it only started this year.
@ "Foolish to open an Orvis in Mississippi to begin with."
Apparently you don't remember the Jackson Orvis store back in the day. On Ridgewood Road I think?
I didn’t realize there was a crime problem at the Renaissance in Ridgeland
So filson (maybe) and what else?
Yall better get ready for beans and rice…the trillion dollar plus tax has hit and it’s about to get ugly. Stock market will fall 70% or more. Transit is shutting down down. Banks are now compressing as loans go unpaid. Foreclosures are up and car repos are at historical highs as car lenders shut. This is a whole scale systemic upending of America on purpose.
Thats when Chy-na stuff was cheap…
I proudly pay tariffs to purchase needed goods. Gotta get those income tax rates down as low as possible! Tariffs will motive lower income people to work harder to better themselves to be able to afford goods they desire.
Is this AOC or Schumer?
It's not physically located in Jackson but it is "Orvis Jackson."
That Orvis was mid (as they all are) however it’s useful if you need line, leaders or flies in a pinch
For those being particular about the store being in Ridgeland and not Jackson proper, I don't think the president of Orvis differentiates like we do. Hell, no one outside of the central part of this state does. It's all Jackson when the cities blend together as they do.
Buy precious metals, gold and silver bullion. Stick it away for your kids or grandkids, the future looks ugly for the dollar.
Attn: Rice and Beaner @ 7:11am
When your MS Today forecast of doom arrives, you can finally afford a Barbour: used, cheap, from Ebay.
Wannabe Fly Fishermen:
You needn't go to the Roaring Fork River near Aspen nor the Blue River near Breckenridge for Trout. Fun fly rod fishing can be had in MS and LA, using a "popping bug" tied to your fly line, from a boat on rivers and lakes, for Bream. Some can catch up to 100 in a day, filling an old ice chest. It's fun and if you trust the water, Bream are delicious.
Prove it.
@7:11 AM, Americans’ Days of Beans and Rice are coming, not owing to any tariffs but, rather, the BRICS countries no longer using the dollar as their medium of exchange. This results in a bunch of unneeded dollars all over, and that means hyperinflation.
But try to hang on until Pfizer rolls out their TDS vaccine.
And the USA will be $500,000,000,000 to the better. Thank you PRESIDENT TRUMP!
Trump foreign policy has buttressed strength of Dollar, but we need your brilliant TDS Vax, perhaps sprayed in Chem Trails, aye, or on hiking trails by Big Foot.
Never heard of this store
Mom & Pop small businesses were killed by the mall.
The mall was killed by Walmart (& crime)
Walmart is being hurt by Amazon.
Restaurants are being killed by no employees and inflation....
No longer fashionable for posers. NF was the first, cursed to be adopted by Young Norwegians, and then we had A~F be taken by flamer CEOs and vulture capital down the drain. Any quality American made outdoors gear chain or manufacturer suffers the same fate. Crud quality Bass Pro destroyed Cabelas. Online we’ve seen Backcountry failing. Mountain Hardware going South. PE and vulture capital destroy all. Orvis is like Harley- too many boomer posers now grown decrepit and young folks don’t want to look like Grandpa. They expanded too much. Then look at CEO bio- third Gen trust fund nepo baby and his Chief Product Officer is a female Berkeley grad. All the near Ivy millennial rich kids are in charge and will never be poor despite driving the family firm in the ground or more likely cashing out. Too bad for middle class workers and American manufacturing. BrynnLeigh and Simon dgaf.
LL Bean now has its stuff manufactured in China.
Exactly.
Well, that will be the second Orvis Store that has failed in the Jackson area. The first was on Ridgewood Road just south of County Line Road
Orvis was at Highland Village. Late 80’s through 90’s. A smaller store with fewer clothes.
Remember Orvis at Highland Village. Must have been late 80’s.
