The Mississippi Book Festival is just around the corner. The September 13, 2025 edition will bring more authors, more panel discussions, and more fun.
A couple of panels might be of interest to readers. There is one on Mississippi baseball (expect to see Fred Shanks camped out there) and the 20th anniversary of Katrina. The poli junkies will love the political journalism panel featuring NBC's Jonathon Allen, David Drucker of the Washington Examiner, and Salena Zito of the Pittsburgh Gazette. Ms. Zito was literally standing right next to President Trump when he was shot. She published a book this year about the experience. This is her second time to speak at the book festival.
List of authors appearing at book festival.
Check out the list of authors on the website as there is literally something for everyone, including those who hate Ole Miss. Rose Bowl, anyone?
I went to the Louisiana Book Festival at Tulane University last spring and it doesn't even begin to compare to the production at the Mississippi Capitol. The festival is one of the things we get right around here.

Not sure if it is just me but those URLs ain’t working. I’m using cloudflare DNS btw.
i just read the list authors list.
Michael Farris Smith and Haley Barbour seem to be the two of the few Mississippi authors not writing race-baiting hackery. Why does everyone without an ounce of creativity go straight to writing books about 19th and 20th century racism?
Not only is this one of the most well run events in the state, there is literally no safer way to experience Jackson than surrounded by several city blocks of books.
