Governor Tate Reeves issued the following statement.
Governor Tate Reeves today announced the appointment of Damon R. Stevenson of Clinton to the Office of the Circuit Judge for the 7th Circuit Court District, which covers Hinds County. This appointment fills a new judicial office created by the Mississippi Legislature.“Damon’s unwavering commitment to justice and steadfast dedication to upholding the rule of law make him exceptionally well-qualified to serve as Circuit Judge,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “As governor, I will continue to appoint principled and proven leaders like Damon to ensure Mississippi’s judiciary remains in trusted hands.”
Stevenson has been a practicing attorney since 2008, when he began his career with the United States District Court in the Probation Office. He entered private practice in 2009 and serves as the managing attorney at Stevenson Legal Group, PLLC. There, Damon has litigated a wide range of both civil and criminal matters in state and federal court.
Since 2018, Damon has served as Municipal Court Judge for the City of Byram, where he adjudicates the timely resolution of criminal cases during trials and plea hearings, while supervising court staff. Additionally, in his role as Special Master for Mental Health in the Hinds County Chancery Court, he presides over court hearings, issuing rulings that lead to the best outcomes for individuals in need of mental health treatment. Stevenson’s well-rounded legal career sets a solid foundation for his term as Circuit Judge.
Stevenson earned a J.D. from the Mississippi College School of Law and B.S. from Tougaloo College.
Stevenson’s term will begin on September 1, 2025, and will fill the remainder of the four-year term, ending on January 4, 2027.

Wasn't Damon the one who didn't make sure his client had on an ankle monitor who ended up killing his ex wife/gf and dumping her in the big black river around Regan Island area? Or is that a different Damon Stevenson?
Tougaloo Eagle Queen we love thee!! Congratulations Judge Stevenson!
Damon Stevenson will be great! Good choice!
Rukia and her gang won't be able to raise the "race card" on this appointment. So sad.
Lawyer’s don’t put ankle monitors on their clients - it’s up to the sheriff’s department to make sure the monitors are placed there by the bonding company.
Great choice. Damon is both knowledgeable and one of the nicest members of the local bar. Excellent addition to attack the backlog of criminal cases.
No. Judge McDaniels did not require Coleman to leave the courthouse with a monitor. Blame lies on Coleman and the judge.
@11:42 Rukia and “her gang” are pretty much irrelevant now.
Thanks Mr. Irrelevant Police.
Excellent choice. Damon will do a very good job.
That's what 11:42 said, troll.
I'm sure he'll be shunned by Wooten & Co...as have the other temporary circuit court judges.
