Rankin County Supervisor Resigns

The Rankin County Board of Supervisors issued the following statement.

The Rankin County Board of Supervisors has formally received the resignation of District 2 Supervisor, Scott Berry, effective June 13, 2025. Supervisor Berry has accepted a full-time, private sector position with a nationally recognized fire apparatus supplier. His full time duties with his new employer will mean that he cannot continue serving as an elected supervisor.

In announcing his resignation Supervisor Berry stated, "It is with a heavy heart that I offer my resignation as a supervisor, a position that I have enjoyed for the past 18 months. In my tenure, Supervisor District 2 has continued to see unprecedented growth in residential and commercial development and the county is incredibly well-positioned for future growth and prosperity.  I am especially excited about the prospects for continued cooperation between the county and our municipalities in expanding economic prosperity to the citizens of Rankin County. Further, during my time as Supervisor I have seen incredible cooperation between the leadership of Rankin County and our state leadership, as well as our elected representatives in Washington, D.C. That cooperation has positioned Rankin County well to receive funding for large capital improvement projects that benefit every citizen of Rankin County. While I love my role as an elected official, I have been offered a unique opportunity to return to my first love, which is fire services.  After
having served for 27 years as the Reservoir Fire Chief, I miss daily interaction with my colleagues in the fire services vocation and industry. This new opportunity will allow me to work closely with the men and women of fire response, and I am excited to return to the industry that I love so much and to which I gave most of my work life."

Supervisor Sid Scarbrough, the current Board President, remarked, "Scott Berry has served the citizens of Supervisor District 2 with honor and distinction. Scott brings so many valuable qualities to his role as an elected official, among them, a careful and measured approach to decision-making and a sharp mind. Scott is also an exceptional listener. When constituents talk to Scott, they know that he cares about their situation and that he is willing to search for a solution to any problems they may have. And they know that he will work tirelessly to bring about a solution if possible.  Scott was selected by the Board of Supervisors to be our primary representative in Washington, D.C., for federal initiatives. Scott is an exceptional representative of the citizens of Rankin County.  Scott also represented the Board of Supervisors in our search for a new executive director of our economic development authority.  Scott's influence in that search process will pay incredible dividends for our citizens for years to come. We consider Scott a great friend and fellow public servant.  While we will miss him greatly, we certainly understand Scott's decision to take advantage of a great opportunity that will be in the best interest of his
family and his future."

The Board of Supervisors will acknowledge the vacancy that is created by this resignation at an upcoming board meeting. Until that time, the Board will have no further comment.

Good for him to have enough integrity to avoid double-dipping with “fuzzy” (lying/theft) timesheets like so many of the fine Christian white boys in rankin do.

I cannot think of a bad thing to say about that guy

Yes, that’s what lying mayor of Jackson should have done

Hear hear! (Or "here here" for Niknar rednecks)

He’s actually the good one of the bunch! Should hustle up Gaines and Bailey getting the hell out I hope!

I was hopeful it was Steve Gaines that resigned but knew it wasn’t likely if the Sheriff was allowed to stay.

Thank you! It takes one honest man to stand up to the tyranny going on in Rankin County. I'm assuming the records they are withholding from the press/public does not exonerate the sheriff like the sheriff had hoped. Wish he would call for a vote on term limits on the way out the door.

So what’s next, another election or will someone be appointed?

I’ve lived in Rankin County my whole life, 65 years. One Rankin County Supervisor, want to be lil dictators, out is…a pretty good start.

I’m glad it is for a positive reason and not something like a terminal illness.

i was socked and saddened when i read it was berry. berry was the best.

Surely I misread this. He no longer works for the county, but resigned and expects to be paid for 13 additional days (
.No wonder people are bailing out and moving to Madison county.

Scott is a wonderful guy and a good supervisor. He was also a great fire chief, and he will do well at whatever he does. I wish him nothing but the best. I hope we elect someone as honest and caring as Scott as our new supervisor. Thanks so much, Scott.

He can talk to Feds freely now.

What's the difference between Rankin County rednecks and Madison County rednecks?

amount of debt....

Don't be fooled, people; Scott Berry is not as great as he claims to be. If you read his statement, you'll see that he is planning to work for a fire apparatus supplier. Coincidentally, Rankin County is about to build three to four new fire stations. Wonder who will win that contract?

I was a reservoir volunteer back in the early aughts. Scott was a great fire chief and all around good guy. He will be missed on the BoS.

9:21 rankin county doesn’t own any fire stations. Every fire department is a contracted entity with the county. And he said he was going to work to sell fire trucks not fire stations.

How that guy was ever a fire chief is pretty amazing.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
