A beloved mother was killed in a hit and run accident on I-220 early this morning. However, the woman's mother and another accident victim claim JPD was of no use as it took its sweet time arriving at the scene as Kayla Smith lay dying on the side of the road.
Several accounts appeared on social media. Here is the first one:
(#2) This is the story of what allegedly happened after Kayla Smith had already been hit, left injured in the road, and her child was also struck and thrown into a field.

~2:30 a.m.
Kayla Smith experiences vehicle issues and pulls to the side of I-220 with her young son in the vehicle.
Kayla reportedly hears a pop and fears the car might catch fire. She and her child exit the vehicle.
Sometime shortly after
A vehicle strikes the scene. Kayla and her son are now both outside the vehicle.
Her son is hit and thrown into a field. He suffers a head injury and two broken legs & one reportedly shattered.
Kayla is left laying in the road, injured.
The vehicle responsible flees the scene.
Kayla, despite her injuries, manages to call 911 three different times.
JPD never arrives in time to help her.
Her mother arrives on scene before any first responders.
3:00 a.m.
Lala, driving home from her sister’s house on County Line Road, approaches I-220.
She sees a black vehicle positioned sideways in the road.
With no time to stop, she swerves right but collides with the car, sending her own vehicle into the bushes.
Inside the black car: there was no one.
Lala immediately calls 911.
Her phone enters emergency mode, and she’s told dispatch cannot locate her. They instruct her to “call again.”
Her door is jammed shut & she is trapped.
She calls her sister and brother in a panic.
A stranger comes down the hill to check on her.
She remains unaware that anyone has been seriously hurt.
3:02 a.m.
• 911 call is placed, then canceled
• Calls to family begin
• 911 is called again at 3:03 a.m. and remains active for 12 minutes
• Dispatchers tell her to “calm down” and “call 911 again”
3:20–3:40 a.m.
• Kayla’s mother is still the only person on site
• Volunteer responders begin to arrive
• JFD and JPD arrive approximately 20 minutes later
• Lala is finally freed from her vehicle
4:00 a.m.
Over an hour after her collision, Lala is finally placed on a stretcher.
She still does not know that a woman …Kayla is lying dead or dying in the road she drove through.
She still does not know there was a child involved.

• Police officers on scene were overheard laughing and making jokes, saying, “Y’all hear them over there carrying on,” referring to Kayla’s devastated family while Lala, fully conscious, heard every word from inside her crushed vehicle.
• Early reports claimed the child was ejected from the vehicle, but it is believed he was struck while outside with his mother.
• His grandmother reportedly found him in the field.

Kayla was not just a name. She was a well-known and deeply loved member of the Mississippi mom community. If you’ve ever been in a local group, you knew her.
She worked tirelessly not for herself, but to care for others. She was the one helping people afford medicine, selling items just to pay for family medical treatments, and never asking for help in return.
She was selfless, a fighter, a mother, and a good human.
She did everything right pulled over safely, called 911 three times, protected her child and was still left alone in the road.
And no one is reporting on this.

Let’s make sure Kayla’s life, her sons life and Lala’s injuries aren’t just footnotes or whispers in a system that too often fails people who don’t have power, money, or a platform.

JPD - #1 reason to not go into the City of Jackson.
They haven’t answered the phones for years.
Where are all the Chief Wade sycophants now?
Timeline of events according to whom?
TATE REEVES needs to take over Jackson Police. Can't someone go to federal courts and get this done?
Don't expect anything to improve with Horhn. All indications are we're getting another version of Harvey Johnson.
Story does not add up. There are reports from her friends that it happened at 2AM and other posts saying it was 5:30AM. Lots of links on FB go to really strange clickbait sites.
I have no words. There is nothing the worthless mayor or JPD can say to make this right. He and his inept sycophants cannot be gone quickly enough. My deepest condolences to the family and prayers the young man recovers from his injuries.
I laugh when I think about all the people who thought Joseph Wade was some sort of the breath of fresh air @ JPD when in reality he's been nothing but a hot air windbag.
