Weed Wars: Feds to Reclassify Mary Jane

The federal government is going to reclassify marijuana from a schedule Ito a scheduled III drug.  The Associated Press reported:

The proposal, which still must be reviewed by the White House Office of Management and Budget, would recognize the medical uses of cannabis and acknowledge it has less potential for abuse than some of the nation’s most dangerous drugs. However, it would not legalize marijuana outright for recreational use.

The agency’s move, confirmed to the AP on Tuesday by five people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive regulatory review, clears the last significant regulatory hurdle before the agency’s biggest policy change in more than 50 years can take effect.

Once OMB signs off, the DEA will take public comment on the plan to move marijuana from its current classification as a Schedule I drug, alongside heroin and LSD. It moves pot to Schedule III, alongside ketamine and some anabolic steroids, following a recommendation from the federal Health and Human Services Department. After the public comment period and a review by an administrative judge, the agency would eventually publish the final rule.Rest of article.

The banks should love this rule change.

What a joke. This stuff is dangerous and everyone is acting like it’s “medical” and can help with whatever is wrong with you.

This stuff is for losers.

Loser mentality and from government.

I have often wondered why those that smoked the stinking weed would defend it, and be against cigarette smoking. It's not the same thing, I was told. A recent study disagrees.
It's an Epoch Times article, but the links are in it to the study.

The stinky weed is defined as a gateway drug. It's perfectly safe say the stoners. The link below says different.

Since the weather has warmed I have been smelling the pungent aroma of marijuana wafting through the air like a sacrilegious incense mingling with the chlorine tang of the pool from next door. My disgusting neighbors cavort naked around the pool in their drug and alcohol induced debauchery playing the music of Satanic Witch Taylor Swift Marijuana is the the road to hell and they are taking the entire neighborhood with them at their pool parties at all hours. I moved to this gated community to get away from heathen behvaior.

All to help Hunter, hell he will never face criminal charges so what the heck. Fentanyl is laced in most Mary Jane. What a joke Biden. He has made our country a laughing stock. He could barely stay awake at the Press dinner. Bye bye Biden. Enjoy it as your days are numbered!

The pretense, at both the federal and state level, is just ridiculous. Everyone knows where this ends up. In the states that have recreational use, it all started with medical use. It's a mistake, and nothing good comes of it. I don't care how hard the potheads argue for it.

For certain problems, the use of marijuana will help and give relief. Old folks who hurt all the time could certainly use it for pain relief. Good to see this finally happening. Not sure how I feel about recreational use, but I just finished a shot of Ancient Age in a touch of sprite, so I hate to criticize the recreational use of drugs too much. Funny to me the people who drink a sixpack a day and criticize recreational Marijuana use.

The lotus fruits and flowers were the primary food of the island and were a narcotic, causing the inhabitants to sleep in peaceful apathy. After they ate the lotus, they would forget their home and loved ones and long only to stay with their fellow lotus-eaters.

The Feds want you to smoke pot so they can take all your liberties away and tax you to death and you won’t care. Weed is the new religion on the masses.

Don't believe the mj cultivators who claim their product is anything more than a hippie high, more potent than ever before, sometimes with fentanyl cut into it. I have seen many use it, usually in combination with alcohol and other, harder drugs, now also cut with fentanyl.

The fact that a relatively mild version of weed grows naturally does not justify its use. Should one lick toad bellies or eat psilosybin mushrooms?

Under the Joe Xiden administration pot will be legal and ARs illegal.

well i’ve been to places where recreational weed is ok and have walked in their downtowns and neighborhoods (specifically denver and LA within the last 6 months). try doing that in jackson or memphis.

(took a gangster rap walking tour in compton..less dangerous than west jackson)

Get up off the couch and quit watching NCIS New Orleans reruns. And get out of those Wal-Mart pajamas!

Milk is now considered a gateway beverage to beer since, with absolute certainty, 94.8 beer drinkers used to drink milk (and some still do).

I've smoked weed and tried just about everything that didn't involve needles. While alcohol was always my intoxicant of choice (mostly due to the legal implications) weed was a close second. Like any drug - prescription or street - it can be beneficial or harmful. It all depends on the individual. Like any product in demand - beneficial or harmful - making it illegal only creates a black market. Reading some of these comments, it's like many of you are completely oblivious to the human and financial costs that we have incurred due to alcohol prohibition and the war on drugs.

And 100% of deaths are caused by sunset or sunrise, because all deaths occur either after sunset or after sunrise.

Don't be fooled, or be a fool. Making pot legal hasn't eliminated the black market. The black market is stronger than ever in California.

Wonder if or how this will affect our car insurance rates? Some said in CO after legalizing g & wrecks began more & more due to mj usage premiums went up. One would think insurance companies would do the same. Remember after 9/11 all policies in life insurance added verbage about acts of terrorism…. Only to see rates go up

People, calm down. Changing the wacky tobaccy to Schedule III allows it to be legally prescribed, which under current federal law is illegal.

I love watching small government conservatives who want to shrink the government down to the size where it's just small enough to fit in someone's house.

You don't give a fuck what I drink... why do you give a fuck what I smoke?

Mind your business -- ask Uncle Sam to regulate everything or STFU. It's binary. You don't get to pick to ban something just because YOU don't like it. Either you want government in your shit or not.

Anonymous said...

Follow the money.

Anonymous said...

@10:39 - Following the money leads to why this was schedule 1 to begin with, to line the pockets of police by making a safe drug that is commonly used by a large percentage of adults into a felony. It’s good to see money not being a roadblock to sensible policy for once.

Anonymous said...

@10:35 Same in my area Pot smoking will not improve anything in our country

Anonymous said...

@11:56 -- Neither does booze or cigarettes... but those are legal, too. Motorcycles don't improve anything in our country... but they're fun to ride.

Since when does something have to "improve" our country to be legal? Individual freedom improves the country. Either be a conservative or don't be.

Serious question from a non-pot-smoker. When I was younger, you could smell pot at concerts, sporting events, etc. and it smelled like plants on fire. Why now does it smell like nasty skunk?

Anonymous said...

every Caribbean island I have visited, it is always the same, the local population is poor as shit and it smells like weed and no one wants to work. We live in the poorest state where no one wants to work and all I have to look forward to is going to the Mayflower and it smelling like weed in downtown.

I live the people that when someone states the dangers of marijuana, they IMMEDIATELY pivot to alcohol.

These are two separate discussions.

Nobody is trying to pass alcohol off as some “medical” solution.

But ever pothead talks like it will cure them if everything and they by growing their own hemp, they will suddenly be in the rope business.

What a bunch of weak people that want a prescription just to get high. You are being lied to and it will only increase mental illness in our society.

Weed is not some safe or softer drug that is all “hippies and good vibes”.

Stop making excuses for your lazy and pathetic weakness.

As a big fan of small government who does not smoke weed, I don't care what drug they make legal.
I don't need a law to tell me not to shoot heroin into my veins. That is a personal choice that I can make no matter how many stores offer a discounted crack cocaine subscription.

Maybe we need to stop saving people from themselves and thin the herd.

If Biden is “vote pandering” by taking an action 70% of Americans support, maybe more of our elected officials should start “vote pandering.”

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
