No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Jackson Edition

It is said no good deed goes unpunished and such is true in Jackson.

Locke Ward has been on a crusade to clean up Northeast Jackson over the last year and has received quite a bit of help from volunteers.  Unfortunately, some of the bums, oops, I meant residentially-challenged citizens loathe any man who dares clean up their pigsty.

Ward and his friend, Roger Parks, were cleaning up trash behind Jacksonian Plaza on April 20 when Byas allegedly threw trash in the street.  Parks told JPD he asked Byas if he wanted to help pick up the trash.  Byas was known to the two men as Locke had paid him in the past to on Ward's clean-up jobs.

Byas allegedly took great offense to Parks' mere existence.  The bum picked up a lamp base and charged at Parks.  He allegedly told Parks he was going to kill him as he allegedly swung the object at Parks.  Byas allegedly threw in a few curse words for special effect.

JPD was called and soon arrived to take Byas into custody after charging him with simple assault.

Ward posted about the incident on Facebook:

This is too good not to share…Roger Roger Parkes wanted me to help him clean up the curbs at the post office by Kroger this morning…It took me 15 minutes to do what he wanted while he cleaned up trash around the area…all the sudden the homeless guy named Red, who has threatened lots of people around here, jumped over the fence with a metal lamp post pipe swinging it at him threatening to kill him…I have talked to Red on several occasions so he knows me and after I yelled at him to settle down he walked away…I got in touch with the mayor and said something needs to be done with this guy…he had 6 police officers out within minutes…now the funny part is I saw a police officer looking for us and I went to track her down..I asked her to follow me to Wendy’s..apparently I ran a red light and she flashed her lights and I thought she might have been escorting me back to get Red…I get out of the car and she asked for my license and proof of insurance and I was getting a ticket for running the light…I told her to give me a ticket but she needs to worry about the guy that threatened to kill Roger…these people would go away if people stopped giving them money

The post included a picture of "Red" when he helped Ward several months ago.

Clown show.

He got served and protected for sure.

As for the address listed on his arrest report, Google Earth says there is no 183 Armstrong Road in Jackson, MS. The closest place is 183 Cliff Armstrong Road about 20 miles East of Sand Hill.

Glad Dr. Parkes was not hurt and that Red was taken into custody. I hope he gets the help he needs and is removed from our streets! I am seriously surprised Mr. Mayor reacted and sent JPD (though one officer seems to have been a little eager to make her traffic citation quota). I guess he didn't want his FREE labor to stop!

He Seems Nice said...

Bum or vagrant or tramp or residentially challenged or homeless or unhoused...

Which woke term is approved this week by highness the Grand Wokeness?

Ward needs to arrange for ol' Red to meet him on the 4000 block of Ridgewood for some trash collection. Let's see how that goes over.

What a clown show. Just play the organ music, eat the circus peanuts and enjoy the show.

Roger and Ward are good dudes, and I hope no harm comes to them.

@ 2:37 you are exactly correct. The more that Locke and his crew do to clean up the streets, the less the city will do. The mayor will soon be looking for citizens to fix potholes. One less thing for the incompetents to handle. The mayor/city can't handle water, sewer, police protection, roadside cleanup, schools, etc. I do wonder where all the money goes

Speaking of cleaning up Jackson, my goodness at the overgrowth of weeds and debris onto the "brand new" curbs and sidewalks on North State street from about North State animal hospital and south is just embarrassing. All that money spent(federal and local dollars) into that project and no plan to maintain keeping it nice by the Mayor and his incompetent departments. What is the point of all the "revitalization" projects if these worthless people aren't going to maintain it going forward?

Locke Ward for Mayor!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

@3:07 True, but the City was already spending the bare minimum on these areas anyway. As long as he is willing to deal with this sort of BS, I'll continue to donate directly to Locke Ward where I can see my money being used to improve the areas I actually frequent.

Sure hope Red stays locked up longer than a couple of days this time!

I read a couple of years ago that there is a civic-minded fellow who lives in NE Jackson who actually repairs the pot holes himself on his street. He has no illusions that the city will ever do anything.

I NEVER see any City of Jackson employees out cutting grass, weed eating, picking up trash etc.... Why is that? Do they just sit around and do nothing all day. EVERYDAY??????

Go to Madison, Clinton, Brandon, Ridgeland, Florence etc.... The city employees are working and they have convicts helping them.

Democrats make me sick

Anonymous said...

Anybody notice that JPD listed the guy as having brown hair......?

@325, true, so true. Add to your note the newly rebuilt and recently opened Riverside Drive. Beautiful new entrance into this neighborhood but the city has let it become overgrown within the first few weeks of taking over its maintenance from the contractor. Couldn't even mow the grass for Hizzonner's 'ribbon cutting' where he wanted to take credit for and brag about the city's accomplishmnets; newly planted sod had grown so high almost reached the Mayor's beard.

Also, this article is just another example of why Jackson needs to convert to a city manager form of government.

@3:25 PM - Contract steering, kickbacks, and palm greasing are what it all about. Right? Chowke, am I right?

Anonymous said...

@3:42 - Probably a lot of DIY folks in NE Jackson. I know someone did this in the CCJ (or maybe still does) - could always tell when it was homeowner filled because whatever he used was a light grey color instead of the normal black. But everyone was just thankful to have them filled!

According to the city, there is an effort to have those in city/county detention out picking up thrash. Jackson employees in both solid waste & parks are working hard to keep the city clean of thrash. Keep Jackson Beautiful also works hard to get organizations & volunteers organized to “keep Jackson beautiful” from thrash on streets. But rental properties & apartment complexes are a problem- renters just don’t have skin in the game.

Anonymous said...

3:25- why don’t you get a group together & clean up these areas you identified? It’s going to take all of us taking responsibility for our town!

Anonymous said...

Sounds like aggravated assault to me.

Anonymous said...

So the guys cleaning up the city for free called the mayor for help with an aggressive vagrant. The police showed up and wrote the guy who called a traffic ticket.

That's Lumumba's Jackson, in a nutshell.

Anonymous said...

@3:46 PM - Jackson has too many "no show" jobs to take care of these menial tasks. Right?

Anonymous said...

Has the mayor or phd moron Omari even recognized Locke ward ? April is clean up Jackson month. Not even the coward Virgi had the decency to ask for Locke to be recognized. Of course her district really is sick and has major buyers remorse. She’s a shadow of Chokwe. Totally sickening.

Keep Jackson Beautiful, that ship sailed away a long time ago.

We are all very perfect people!
Still, one tragedy,,, a mis-step.or two,,, and, who knows how we might end up.

Locke
You should’ve called the mayor to tell him about the ticket this idiot wrote you while volunteering and als ok helping them fight crime

Locke Ward said...

I should have made it clear that she did not end up giving me a ticket--said she was going to let me off this time but if I had not basically laughed at her she was on her way--the mayor and police chief have 5 police officers to the location within minutes

Anonymous said...

@6:16
I live in the district represented by Virgi… I mistakenly voted for her and I won’t do it again. Nor will many of my neighbors. She lied to the voters and is a lock vote for the mayor. She’s on just about the wrong side of everything honestly. Ready for her to GO!!!

@4:36 you are living in a dream. If all of the people you mentioned were working so hard Jackson wouldn't look like Jackson looks. Of course, by the time you clean it up the honorable citizens fuck it right back up.

Keeping the grass and weeds cut should be easy and done on a regular basis. As soon as you finish, you start over.

I don't know of any "real"
job Virgi Lindsay has ever had.

@9:22 been feeling the same way after the garbage fiasco... who would be our alternative though?

Anonymous said...

Nothing but respect to Locke and Parks.

I do wonder if they looked more like the mayor, would they have a street already renamed in their honor?

Imagine how much better Jackson would be if leaders respected citizens of all skin tones equally. Working together instead of forced and constant racial lines from the Mayor. What a wonderful dream.

The manager of the Parham Bridges Tennis Facility testified in court he was tearing up the place and running off tennis players.

Question: Why did the prosecutor only charge him with simple assault instead of aggravated assault?

The defense tried to recuse the judge and the prosecutor started agreeing with the defense.

Don't think the city prosecutor is on your side. Not for one second, when it comes to keeping these bums from tearing up the city. Chief Davis used to tell me the city prosecutors' office kept his officers hamstrung from doing anything about them.

“As Jackson Turns….”

Wow he looks 50+ in his mugshot and he is in his 30s.

Parham Bridges, much like these men attempting to clean up the city have a daunting and thankless job.
Greenbrook Flowers heard the mayor loud and clear. "Next."

Most of us bolted when Little Lord Chucklepants made it clear he had no interest in assisting white business owners. Tennis courts don't have that luxury so sincere best of luck to them. I cannot imagine what they deal with.

And neighborhoods are going to hell in a handbasket, even if they have landlords with deep pockets because community improvement doesn’t appear to bother to come out and do anything. If they do come out, there’s no follow through. We had a neighbor cut down a tree and pile it all up in the space in between the rental house and his house and it’s been there for over a year and looks horrible. There are some things that the city could do that they wouldn’t have to pay for other than to send the salaried employee out to put a letter in the mailbox , but they don’t even seem to be able to get that done. Sad…

You can't deal rationally with an irrational person.

We have always had drunks and addicts and mentally ill people in the human population.

Sadly, we used to treat the treatable and keep those who couldn't be managed safely in our midst in residential, supervised care. While on their medications, many of them could help maintain the facility ...even in clerical or teaching positions.

Geraldo Rivera filmed at one facility for 20/20. All those who were doing well there at the time and appeared normal. So, there was a public outcry due to his shallow reporting. He didn't see their initial condition or the treatment efforts to stabilize them after they arrived. He didn't bother to learn the importance of a regular healthy diet, exercise, cleanliness and getting their meds on time each day.

Mental Health facilities all over the country have been closed after Congress bowed to public pressure with the impractical " danger to themselves or others law". The Supremes made that worse with and ill-informed judgement hamstrung the police and psychiatrists, so we have to wait until they do harm to themselves or others.

That law also made it impossible for families and loved ones to involuntarily commit the addicted to treatment. So, rather than allowing them to safely withdraw and become rational enough to cooperate with treatment and recover, they are on our streets and feeding the drug dealers.

I see this man as one of many in the chaotic end result when those who make our laws don't bother to learn anything about the problem they are attempting to solve.

When the subject is psychiatry and addiction or the female reproductive system and any other science, laws based on misinformation, emotion, myths or religious beliefs have brought us to the chaos we are seeing in society.

Most disturbing is when psychiatrists see former patients making decisions in government, teaching or preaching...especially when it's obvious that they stopped taking their meds!

Locke must be a great guy. I wondered about the cleaning of the area (I-55 area). I knew the city wasn't doing it. Locke is a better man than most. If the guy jumped the fence charging me with something threatening to kill me, I would have shot his ass.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
