Dedmon. It is a name that will forever symbolize the terror of modern-day racism in Mississippi. Murder for fun, torture, sadism, and sexual abuse, all acts committed by Deryl Dedmon or his cousin, former Goon Squad member Christian Lee Dedmon.
Chalk, Dedmon, Cory, Parker Artist: Bill Wilson for JJ & WLBT |
This day brings back bad memories for me. Deputy Dedmon is the worst example of a police officer in the United States of America. Deputy Desmond was the most aggressive, most vicious, sickest, and most wicked of those that attacked me. Dedmon is responsible for trying to take my manhood. Dedmon id deadly and responsible. I would hope that you, your honor, would hold him accountable to the maximum extent of the law.January 24 was the worst day of my life. I was brutally beaten and nearly killed by the Rankin County Sheriff's Department, also known as the Goon Squad. One of its leaders is Dedmon. I never would've thought a night of hanging out with my friends would have turned out the way it did. ....I'm hurt, I'm broken, I'm ashamed, and embarrassed by the entire situation. They did some unimaginable things to me that affects me and will forever linger in my life. Every time I try to take a bite of food, the pain reminds me of what happened that night. Now because of a gunshot wound to my jaw, I can no longer do what I love to do, and that is sing. Because I was shot in fat face, it has affected my vision so I can no longer play drums at church.I wake up at nigh in fear and anxiety. I'm broken inside. ...I try every day to try and do some of the simple things I used to enjoy but I can' thanks to the Goons. I want all of them to remain behind bars and off the streets.
The courtroom was silent as Jenkins relived his pain yet again. Once Shabazz concluded the address, Eddie Parker stood forward to speak for himself. Parker said:
I've been in Rankin County for 39 years of my life, kind of known the ins and outs of a lot of things. I've had my share of trouble doing this and that.
To grow up and not experience and have the kind of life everyone was having, I knew that's what it watt was when they walked through the door. When I saw Christian Dedmon walk through the bedroom door.
He made me realize that out in the streets, trouble find you, evil, but everybody I saw, the devil come to me. I saw the devil in my face, in my home, where I was supposed to be safe.
What did I do to get this? Nothing. Why was I on their mind? No reason. Why did he call and say black peoples were in his neighborhood? I didn't see a sign that said no black people.
I'm not there because I have to be. I'm there because I choose to be. I'm helping a friend I've known for 20 years who is paralyzed.
When it's too good, the devil come out. Maybe I was doing some good. I was helping my friend. That man sat on the bed, smiling the whole time. It was fun for them. In my head, we was fixing to die, nah, we going to prison, we going to get 30-40 years. That last time he asked me if you think they gonna lets us go (Jenkins). I told him I was gonna take care of him when we go to jail. 30 seconds later he said, "you shot me, man, you shot me." What did he do? Nothing. What did any of them do? Nothing.
They had elite of time while Michael Jenkins was bleeding on the floor. They took me out the front of the house through the rain, no shoes, no shirt, in the rain. They uncovered everything. I found a shell case. I found a bullet that went through my frame. I found everything they were trying to get.
The devil came to take. God, God made sure because if you don't pay attention, you let evil back. You don't pay attention, you will slip up and let people know how evil you are.
The FBI did an awesome job but I solved that case. God solves that case. (A Dedmon relative sitting behind me said "That is such bullshit."). Thank ya, Judge.
Parker asked Judge Lee to give Dedmon the maximum sentence as the jurist stoically heard it all. Jenkins father, Mel Jenkins, stood before the Court to deliver a message on what he thought about the Goon Squad:
You don’t keep kicking a dead horse, I would like to ask you if you would to give this guy as much time as you can. I want my son, my son told me he lay on the floor for 45 minutes but I’m sure he don’t really know. You could tell by the color of blood he lay there quite a while. My son said when they shot him, they still didn’t uncuff him. When they went out, one of them would come back in and kick him in the head to see if he was dead. They didn’t call the ambulance. What kind of people are these guys. I noticed they are young.
They are not old. How do you learn this much hatred in that short length of time. I know the daddy say he taught the boy right but where did he get this from? They so young that only a couple of them could’ve known Goon Jones (Simpson County Sheriff Lloyd Jones). So where is this coming from is my question? How do you know another being like this? Your honor, I’m not criticizing the last lawyer and I’m not criticizing , it's just stuff he said to me. He was trying to see that his client did less than his client, his client didn’t tase nobody. He took part in in it, I’m so glad you saw through those alligator tears and gave him the most time (KF: Middleton). If you participated, you ought to get life. You treat another human like that you don’t believe on God’s green earth. Thank ya your honor.
Dedmon stood accused of torturing a suspect in December 2022 on I-20 as well. Chalk read Alan Schmidt's statement to the Court.* The victim was not present. Elward and Opdyke stopped Schmidt, a suspected thief of lawn equipment, on I-20. Dedmon told the two Goons to not do anything until he arrived. Once Dedmon was present, a torture session similar to what took place in Braxton ensued (The entire statement is posted below.) as Dedmon shot at Schmidt and sexually assaulted him.
Dedmon's family sobbed during the reading. One woman behind said "That's not true."
Chalk asked the Court to sentence Dedmon to serve 41 years in prison. Cory protested, arguing his sentence was 20 years more than those who supervised the mission. He said Chief Investigator Brett McAlpin put everything in motion when he told Christian Dedmon to "put it together." Dedmon should have known better but he knew what the culture of that department was and what was expected. Cory tried to put the blame on Middleton and McAlpin. "Just because they didn't put hands on Jenkins doesn't entitle them to a lower sentence," said the attorney.
U.S. Attorney Todd Gee watched it all from the front row as his prosecutor did her job.
Finally, it was time for Christian Lee Dedmon to say his peace, not that he will know any peace. Breaking down as he spoke, Dedmon said:
Judge, thank you for giving me this time. I want to tell Mr. Jenkins and Mr. Parker how sorry I am for what they went through, and what they are going through…. . I told them, I ll never forgive myself fo them. The pain I caused them I’ll never forgive myself. Sir, I got in law enforcement not because I wanted to be a devil, I stand before you 29 years old of sound mind …. We had a culture of doing things. I was the youngest investigator ever promoted as fast as I was in a dept that size. Instead of doing the right thing, I chose to be a showoff and meet the expectations of those who came before me. No one made me do the things I did. In respect to the I-20 incident sir, the things I pled guilty to with Mr Schmidt said I did. Sir, I take full responsibility but respectfully sir, the sexual assault did not happen , that is a lie. I hope that all three gentlemen can forgive me one time. I hope I can be a part of my little girls’ life and be a contributing member of society.
Chalk heard it all and went to work. She said Middleton received a different sentence because he did not have the same charges. Dedmon initiated the incidents after he received the call from McAlpin. Dedmon called the officers he knew would do what he wanted to do.
His use of the taser from the minute he entered the home, was unwarranted. There was no knock and talk but simply a busting through the door. His use of the taser gave the ok for everyone else to use a taser or their hands and fists. The assault and torture did not end for 88 minutes. 88 minutes.
Dedmon claimed he did not cause injury to anyone. Chalk reminded him of all the violence and acts perpetuated by them. Chalk reminded the Court Dedmon sat on a bed "Indian style" and watched (A family member whispered "no he didn't.). He submitted drugs to the crime lab with Jenkins' name on them.
Moving on to the I-20 incident, Chalk said Dedmon agreed with the facts and made no attempt to correct them until now. Chalk proceeded to read out the facts of the case. Dedmon merely looked down at the table as she did so, especially when she described how Dedmon and company played a game of taser hot potato with Jenkins and Parker.
Dedmon organized both missions and there were other missions. Chalk said Dedmon might be young but he had experience after working as deputy for 7 years. "He hid behind his badge and gun," said the prosecutor.
It was time for sentencing. Judge Lee said he received 23 letters in support of Dedmon.
Judge Lee decreed:
You, Mr. Dedmon, committed the most egregious actions on that attack and the attack on Mr. Schimdt. B that I don't mean just the most egregious conduct but the most shocking, brutal, and cruel acts imaginable (the sobbing grew louder) and you deserve to be punished for that.
The Court sentenced Dedmon to serve 480 months in federal prison. The sentence will run concurrently with the state sentence Dedmon has yet to receive.
Ironically, Christian's cousin Daryl is serving a federal prison sentence after he was convicted of federal hate crimes after he murdered James Anderson. He pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in Hinds County Circuit Court in 2012. Earlier post in 2012. Ironic because Christian Dedmon sat in the courtroom that day, watching Circuit Judge Jeff Weill sentence his cousin to life in prison. Little did he suspect that one day he would suffer nearly the same fate.
The acts committed upon me on December 4, 2022, have impacted my life in such a negative way that it will take years to lead a somewhat normal life without having flashbacks of the night of December 4, 2022.
On the night of the assault, I was pulled over for an expired tag near I-20 and State Street near the border of Rankin and Hinds County. A trafficstop initiated, and I complied with the original officer’s commands. ThenChristian Dedmon arrives shortly after, immediately ordering officers to cuffme and take me to Dedmon’s vehicle. When Dedmon got me to hisvehicle, he yanked me down, hitting my head on the back right quarterpanel of Dedmon’s Rankin County Sheriff department-issued vehicle. Myhead hit the panel by the wheel, leaving a dent on the vehicle, and myeyes began to see spots. I could not think clearly, I could not see, I couldnot protect myself, and I was scared for my life already.
I was already scared for my life as I was being assaulted on the side of the road, and then my life flashed before my eyes. I thought I died. Iknew my time was over. Christian Dedmon demanded that I confessed anddisclosed the location of stolen items in Jackson, Mississippi, which I did notknow. Dedmon responded to my lack of knowledge by discharging his gun towards me. Then I felt the barrel of the gun on my temple. I was shaking. Ialmost used the restroom on myself. I was humiliated. I was scared. It is hardto finish writing this paragraph. The images are so graphic. The fear isunexplainable. I did not know it was possible for any human to feel this way.
Dedmon asked me several more times where some stolen items were. I did not know, so I told him that I did not have what he was looking for. Thistime, Dedmon shot the gun closer to my head. I thought, “this is it, I will neversee my family again and these officers will get away with it.” At this point, I think I was in shock. The next thing I remember is being beaten, punched, and kicked. I thought to myself that it would stop soon, and they were on apower trip, and would stop. I was wrong. It seemed like it was going to lastforever. Nobody helped me. Nobody stepped in to stop them. Nobody cared. Iwish the officers understood that I am a human being, just like them. I hurt, just like them. I feel, just like them...
When I was able to gather my bearings and surroundings, I wasbeing walked by Hunter Elward and Christian Dedmon, then forced tomy knees in front of Dedmon. Dedmon pulled his private part andbegan hitting me in the face with it. Dedmon tried to put his privates inmy mouth, but I kept my mouth as tight as I could. I could not help butthink during this, “what sick individual does this? He has so much power overus already, so to act this way, he must be truly sick in the head.” I did notthink I was in reality anymore. This is not the world we live in. We are betterthan this.
Since I would not touch Dedmon or Elward’s privates and keptscreaming no and that they are sick for this, they pulled my pantsdown. I was still handcuffed and defenseless. The officers startedtouching my private parts. Dedmon grabbed my privates and said “myyou have a big one” and dry h u m p e d me. I kept screaming t at theyare sick and to let me go. The assault eventually stopped when the officers took me to jail.
My face was injured pretty bad and they knew it but they didn’t take me to the hospital or even have medical evaluate me at the jail. Nobody cared. I haveflashbacks to this day if certain things happen. If my pants are around myknees with me pulling them up, I will think about it, and get short of breath. If Isee a cop car, I break out in sweats. I am terrified of guns and shake if I hear loud unexpected noise. When I drive down I-20 where the incident tookplace, I think about it every time. This will not escape me. I never want tosee these officers again. They sexually assaulted me. They physically andmentally abused me. My life has forever changed because the actions ofthese officers. I pray that the justice system will hold them to the fullestextent of the law, for all our sakes. Police are supposed to serve and protect.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on January 24th, 2023, at approximately 11:45 p.m. near 135 Conerly Road in Braxton, Mississippi.
Rankin County Sheriff’s Department deputies were conducting a narcotics investigation when they encountered a subject that displayed a gun towards the deputies. The subject was transported to a nearby hospital. The officers received no injuries.
MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.

I know this sentence is for what happened in Braxton, but there are other Victims/families needing justice for what that perv took from them. Maybe the 40 years is a small victory knowing he's not still out there.
He must not have cooperated
Murderers get less than that so stfu about justice not being served
When is sheriff Bailey going down? Surely, some of those goons spilled the beans and cut deals with the Feds.
Obviously Baileys NOT going down!! Obviously there’s nothing on him! Get over it Rankin, you’re stuck with him. If there were any others involved they’d have been picked up by now. Justice served, why are you still crying? Move along to the next Todd article.
A triple murderer in Jackson wouldn't receive anything near 40-years.
Hoping Sheriff Bailey and the ADA’s that prosecuted all of these officers cases despite all the red flags are put in jail. How many people took plea bargains despite their innocence because the risk was just too high… 99% Of the time juries believe the cops… these same cops.. Anyone believe them now? Sad part is if they hadn’t of accidentally shot that guy the would still be doing it.
Not enough punishment. Take this creature out back and put it down. Allowing it the chance to rape more humans in prison is no punishment for that freak.
Bailey is retiring after this term and his high 4 will be nearly $200k. That means his PERS will pay out more to him for the rest of his days than the average state employee salary. The FBI and DOJ have had billboards all over Rankin BEGGING people to come forward if they have evidence. The Feds have nothing on Lord Farquaad.
While I agree that these goons are getting exactly what they deserve, I wish that this much time, effort, and media attention would be given to murderers in Hinds County.
@4:35 - I would actually feel safer around the triple murderer than any of Rankin’s finest. How sad is that?
There’s no rehabilitating monsters like this. I doubt they can even be classified as human. Unless the prisoners are allowed to use these pervs as sex dolls, I don’t see how their lives can provide anything of value.

Umm… BB you are culpable !
I am with 5:01!
Practicing lawyer
He got more time than murderers who actually killed people
Is there something in the Dedmon family DNA?
Yep, something's up with those Dedmon genes!

To the two friends he still has left he is ruined regardless if he gets indicted (I think he will) or not. The moment Jenkins got shot in the face the cover up started . The Times shows up and one thing leads to another and Bailey criminal organization got exposed and we all know it ! A Rankkn county sheriff made the cover of NYT for Christ sake ! Embarrassing
20 years, 40 years, pffft. All these Goonies will be "Epstein'd" within months IF that long.
From the NYT:
“A culture of misconduct reigned at the sheriff’s office, Mr. Dedmon said, and he rose through the ranks to become the department’s youngest investigator because of his willingness “to do bad things.”” From a sealed memorandum
Mississippi has the highest percentage of black residents, if the Dedmon family hates blacks so much why don't they move to another state?
According to WLBT, the traffic stop incident occurred “ on I-20 near North State Street.” Isn’t that Jackson/Hinds County?
Every rankin citizen who voted for Sheriff Bailey has blood on their hands. His crimes have been widely known in the area for a decade. Rankin citizens will now pick up the bill for his assault on America. Hopefully they pay enough that they feel some pain and rethink their support of treating the black citizens with such animosity.
Let's just hope Judge Ratcliffe sends the message that Rankin citizens are not going to put up with this type of behavior and Order that the State sentences he imposes run CONSECUTIVE to the Fed sentence. Hell 20 years, 17 years, 40 years....I watched Emfinger give a guy 80 years, 20 years suspended, 60 years to serve for 4 counts of sale of a controlled substance. McAlpin was sitting in the audience. Thats 4 non-violent felonies. How many felonies have these Goons pleaded to so far??? The nature of the offenses??? Their position as LEO (should be help to a higher standard)??
Hopefully, the honorable jurist will not be the Wooten of Rankin County.
@ 5:31
Bailey's salary is actually around $140,000 so not as bad as you posted, but your point is still valid. The really sad part is that the board of supervisors gave him a $20,000 raise last fall.
https://mississippitoday.org/2023/10/13/rankin-sheriff-gets-pay-boost-days-after-goon-squad-tortured-two-men/
I'm glad he got so much time, but why plead guilty if you are going to get 40 years!?! Was he afraid he would get more if it went to trial? He's only 29, so maybe he might get out one day, but I doubt inmates are living to an average age.
@5:31 you are incorrect. The Feds know all about the Trustee program and all the free personal labor that was done for the sheriff. It's a matter of time for all you non-believers.
KF. Have the appearances changed any for the goon squad? Did any of them change physically so it would appear that their conscience is eating them alive? Just wondering if they all still look exactly the same except for the alligator tears.........
It makes me want to cry each time I read this.
I cannot fathom the dear these men felt. These monsters felt emboldened and safe because the victims was a minority and not affluent. Black people, poor people etc deserve the same decency as the connected families in Rankin.
Any cop that treats one segment of the population with less humanity is a cancer that should be removed. Yet in Rankin Co it seems to be encouraged.
Cannot imagine the trash family members that had the audacity to outloud refute the victim's claims but I guess I should expect nothing less from these classless subhuman's bloodline.
The judge should have humiliated them too for speaking out in open court.
I respectfully emailed the board of supervisors to ask what they plan to do in regards to this horror. and I have not heard a peep in return.
This has completely changed how myself and many others will vote. We want action and at a minimum a public expressions that the leaders don't condone this and do not support these monsters.
A lot of us are done with this good ol' boy BS. I hope many who collect these do nothing/ report nothing paychecks are sweating.
He will never do the complete 40-years. Some president will commute the sentence years from now when these terrible events are a distant memory.
@8:39 AM At least one of them looks like he hasn't missed any jailhouse meals. Maybe he is a cook's helper. He must be 150+ pounds on the obese side, but then so are 100s of Mississippi porkers, err, cops.
This Goon Squad stuff is so heartbreaking. How can people become so evil? How in the world do you treat someone else in such a horrific way? How do victims of this group move forward with their lives?
There are millions of good men and women in uniform who have worked hard to uphold the law and build bridges within their communities. Then evil people like this group ruin so much for so many.
40 years is a lot of time. Better order a rock hammer and get a big poster for your cell.
@8:31 - does that figure include the extra $30,000 the Sheriffs gets paid off the Rankin EOC payroll? He’s on that one and the Sheriffs Dept.
Confirmation that in 2024 Rankin is still just low category dixie mafia bootleggers cloaked with suits and ties and their own little private school now in the third generation.
Scary.
When people elect a person who is a crook and it is proven in court that he is a thug they should be just a little ashamed of what they did. Some Rankin citizens would rather see all of the criminals returned to their job as deputies. In my opinion we should get rid of the leader as well. If he wasn't aware of what was going on he is too stupid to have the job he has.
Lets be honest... the victims are not choir boys.
Why was this racist? Didn’t they harass everyone regardless of race?
@6:14AM Whether they are choir boys or not, what happened to them was inhuman. If you did this to a dog at a minimum, you would be prosecuted for animal cruelty. To suggest that this torture, and all it entailed is somehow justified because "they are not choirboys" is complete BS. If this happened to your family, you would scream bloody murder. Why is it justified when it happened to people who are outside your circle?
