Mississippi has its fair share of detractors and at times it seems the media is always looking for a new negative story about Mississippi. Thus, it was rather refreshing last week to hear developer Gabriel Prado praise the Magnolia State at the ground-breaking ceremony for his Topgolf project. JJ could give you the cliffnotes but then that would spoil the fun of watching the short video posted below. Enjoy.

His view will change after the first shootout in the parking lot of his facility.
Monorail? monorail!
Mississippi is still a place where confidence men and snake oil salement can still ply their trade with ease!
Refreshing to always hear a legal immigrant speak positive about this state and this country. I’m from Chicago and up there we have a million polish immigrants that are proud to be American. Liberals brainwash students here to be ashamed of the U.S. but all you have to do is ask a legal immigrant.
Jackson is lucky to have Gabe taking a fresh look at what Jackson and central Mississippi can be. We need young people like Gabe to change our course. Thanks for your hard work.
3:33 is right
The post is about Ridgeland. All he has done for Jackson is buy and neglect some important commercial parcels and fix up a gas station.
3:33 AND 5:41
You people are a major part of the problem with your pessimistic doom & gloom spewing.
@4:17 Agreed, the business climate is less than friendly for a minority. Kudos to him for breaking through the "good old boy" club.
6:20 Just keep watching the news and we'll see. It's not like a shoot out is a rare occurrence as it happens day and night. Even you're not that dumb!
They need 3 cops armed on staff there.
It’s going to be a hot mess.
The worst mistake Ridgeland made was building that lovely parkway from 51 to Highland Colony and throwing up a Walk On’s on Highland Colony. I know, the parkway was built to help Costco but it made it easier for the wrong element to come over and hang. I guess because everything in Jackson has closed.
Do you ever go to another state and see a Ruth’s Chris, Cheddars, On the Border, Romano’s Macaroni Grill, Sweet Peppers Deli and the list goes on and you wonder why did they leave this area? Little Rock has it or Birmingham has it. Why is it different here? I know why! Who ruined things for everybody? Ummm, the people who walk in with a birthday cake and a party of 20 who complain about everything.
@8:45, I’m quite sure some of the more educated clientele that visit Top golf will have a ccw license. And have a gun on them, legally.
@6:31 you are wrong. I would venture to say that many of his opportunities come his way BECAUSE he is a minority.
@6:20 -- There's no reason arguing with those folks. They are full of vitriol and suggestions but barren when suggestions turn to action. They'd much rather be able to thump their chests and say "I told you so!" when things go bad, than pat their backs and say "I was part of the solution". They'll be the first to complain when no one invests in Mississippi, complain about our lack of resources, complain about our government, and then sit back and say "I told you so!" when everything turns to rust and ruin. Full of suggestions, lacking in action.
Am I advocating for million-dollar investments on Ellis Avenue? No. But if there's one thing true about Mississippians it's that we will tear ourselves down quicker than anyone else will. Maybe if we'd make a concerted effort to support the people/developments who stick their necks out there for us, they wouldn't fail as quickly. But then the detractors wouldn't get to say "I told ya so!"
There will be no shootings there, because that's against the law.
It’s useless and nonproductive to speak the truth about what is simply the reality of Jackson. Instead we should all engage in happy talk; that will make all things better, happy, head-in-the-sand talk.
@7:51
I loath this place due to the willful ignorance and horrifying grammar. None of you have any of the charms that my husband has. When I fell in love with him and relocated from the PNW, I thought most of you would be like him. You are all nothing but violent, savage, throwbacks.
All well and good but there is a real world we're all in so do what you want to do...
Deep down we all know we cannot fix a culture of fatherless homes and immoral mothers who are raising welfare dependant children with no empathy, decency or work ethic that create an uneducated population and high crime rates.
But sure. Its the bad PR from people talking that is killing Mississippi.
I'm proud we are getting a Top Golf while also refusing to be blissfully ignorant.
If you think his views "will change after the first shootout in his parking lot" you need to educate yourself. Gabriel has been a significant landlord in Jackson for a few years now, and yet he has a better outlook and attitude than you do...
8:33 Buh-bye, Felecia.
King of the Hill is definitely set in MS
Simple:Go where you want, don't go where you don't want to go. Do comments control you!!
6:19 I’m certain he’s done more than you. All you haters are the exact ones who do absolutely nothing. NOTHING. Sit around taking in air and complaining. Anyone who thinks this is a bad idea, put your cash up and do something beside whine. Get a life.
Who cares. He is developing a piece of dirt like many others have up and down the interstate. Also, Waldo is doing Top Golf not Prado.
That was a damn good speech. Well done, Gabriel!
I like to tell myself things I already know, so I can say, “I really identify with you so much!” I can sit back smugly and feel so superior, cause you know “I’m just telling it like it is!” What a sense of accomplishment.
