Rest in peace, Mrs. Smylie. May God have mercy on you and your family.
Why did a 14 year old murder her mother????
Seems like at least once a month there’s a standoff or a murder in Brandon at this point
Prayers to Ms. Smylie's family. As well as prayers for the Northwest Rankin High School commumity. Such a tragedy. RIP Ms. Smiley.
What a tragedy. Prayers to the family as well as to the Northwest Rankin High School community -- this was one of their teachers & students (the teen daughter). RIP Ms. Smylie.
It will likely come out that mom took away her phone or something similar.

I wonder if there's not more to this. There's a stepfather present who also caught a bullet and it makes me wonder if he wasn't the intended primary recipient and mom just got home first. As sad as it is, there have been many cases where a stepfather was abusing the daughter and the mother not intervening if she was aware it was happening. What a horrible situation.
@12:47 PM Good grief! The man just lost his wife and you go off on an abuse tangent?
Prayers for the family.
Just because there was a stepfather doesn’t mean he was doing anything to her. Truth is we don’t know what happen
Been nearly 24 hours and neither Northwest Rankin High School or Rankin County School District can be bothered to post any sort of sympathy on their pages.
The middle school and district failed to do this when 6th grader, Liam, lost his life earlier this school year. As a parent of children at these schools, it is disheartening. They do not have to weigh into the facts or circumstances, but when a faculty, staff or student loses their life suddenly and tragically, they could and SHOULD at least acknowledge it. The low moral and lack of community is showing.
1:29 - It wasn't a tangent. It was a notion. Call it he ex-cop in me. I always try to look something like this from everyone's perspective. There's no solid reason why a 14 year old would off her mother and then shoot her step dad without motivation of some sort.
Besides... were you there?
Prayers for the North West Rankin family, their students, staff and absolutely Mrs. Smilie’s husband, family and friends.
You don’t have to have a solid reason to murder someone. People murder family members all the time without a clear reason. It could be drugs, mental illnesses or something else. People aren’t always logical
The ladies of the church and other busy-bodies will have it all figured out by daylight this morning.
