A thief stole a car that had two children inside in Mendenhall this afternoon. WLBT reported:
Suspects are now in custody following a car theft at a Highway 13 gas station in Mendenhall.
Simpson County Deputy Chris Wallace says the victim, an 8-month pregnant woman, entered the Shell station Tuesday afternoon, leaving her 3-year-old and 8-month-old in her vehicle.
Deputy Wallace said a stolen silver car, taken from Brookhaven Saturday night, circled the gas station twice before a man in the passenger seat got out, jumped into the pregnant woman’s car, and took off.
The mother then chased her car on foot, but the suspects were able to get away with her children still inside.
Mendenhall Police Chief Alexander McCullum says the suspects later abandoned the mother’s vehicle on Highway 49 in Rankin County, switching to another car that ended up crashing on Gallatin near Highway 80 in Jackson after a brief chase.
Richland Police were then able to arrest the three suspects, Allison Clark, Richland Public Information Officer, said. It is not clear where they will face charges. Article
Nice job at WLBT for scooping the media.

Thugs stole a pregnant woman's car with her two infants in it ??? No excuse for behavior such as this, put them all away for the rest of their lives. If they are slapped on the wrist and turned loose, next time possibly someone dies.
This behavior isn’t confined to Jackson. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they were live-streaming the entire event while spewing ignorant pidgin nonsense.
I grew up playing the Grand Theft Auto series on PS2 and it was enough thrill for me!
Arrest baby momma for child neglect.
She left the keys in the ignition, likely to keep the engine running, along with her babies. Arrest the mom for child neglect.
Ferals on wheels-
Did I read that correctly? An 8-month pregnant woman has an 8-month old baby that she left in the car? I guess she got pregnant on the same day she gave birth to the 8-month old child.
Give you one guess as to who the mother is and who the thieves are.
For those of you saying this is child neglect:
this lady is 8 months pregnant , she OBVIOUSLY left the car running BECAUSE there were two children inside, rather than spending a solid 10 minutes getting the other kids out, taking them in, having to say no to candy 13 times, paying for her item, taking them back out, spending another 10 minutes strapping them in, no.......she left the car running and ran inside a gas station. There was absolutely nothing neglectful about this and you idiots obviously do not have children
Should at least be cited for leaving a car running and unattended. 63-3-909.
First so glad the car ditched and babies safe, the horror of a past car theft like this had a reminder by Kingfish recently.
We must see the criminals in stolen cars, stealing more cars and not make a mother a criminal. Would I interview her and give her a A+ on the mother test, most likely not.
I do not stop and leave car running in heat for my best friend, a golden retriever. But I can leave the dog at home unattended.
7:59/8:00 has likely neither enjoyed the company of a fertile woman nor likely will he ever.
That will spare him the wrath of a tired incontinent Mother who's given birth before and is now 8 months pregnant needing to hit the restroom every 5 miles, with him complaining. Very unwisely complaining.
Word from the wise.
8:01 - If you DO have children, I will notify the 'Child Endangerment Division' if you'll post your name.
Children come with various price tags. One of them is an obligation to spend whatever amount of time is required to ensure their comfort and safety.
She had an obligation. She failed to embrace it. You, on the other hand....
8:01 So it's okay to neglect your children if taking them with you causes you inconvenience. She signed up for mother hood. She placed something else above the safety and welfare of her children. Attitudes like yours is one reason this nation is in the pathetic shape it's in today.
8:01 - so it's permissible to neglect your children as long as your not inconvenienced???
Good job to the police officers. Glad they caught them and the kids are ok.
I never had kids because I was honestly worried about being able to afford them as well as my ability to be truly selfless and raise them to be great humans.
Of course, people look at me like I am defective for being a childless female.
I'd argue more people should be like me, and take a real internal audit and admit some harsh truths to themselves before getting pregnant. It makes me sad, how flippant so many are about such a huge responsibility.
God bless the great moms out there. It really is a hard job...if you do it right.
Omg all the negative comments about the mom leaving the kids to run in the store. Y'all are ridiculous! Like a million others haven't done it to run in the store real quick! The main thing is at least they caught the idiots and the children are safe! We shouldn't have to worry about stupid things like that happening!
I gotta pee so it's OK for me to endanger the lives of my children.
Got it...movin' on now.
At this point, the comments section on this website has become just as depressing as the comments section on any local news site’s Facebook page. The more idiotic and/or unnecessarily mean-spirited a comment is, the more likely it is that the comment will become the prevailing take on a given story. If y’all have any redeeming qualities whatsoever, then y’all do a great job of hiding it. Pathetic…
When you have a losing take on life and can't stand correction, you post things like 8:01, 9:04, 4:45... no doubt probably the same person posting all three.
This is 5:13 - correction: Not 4:45, meant 1:45... the poster sayin "At this point..."
