That'll help the situation.

Interesting report - but can't call anything in this "news".

Millsaps story - almost a year old
Fairgrounds - over a year old
Byram - announced two years ago.

News derives from the word "new" - maybe Scott Simmons just had a day off with no killings to report on in Jackson

Disappointing to be a customer and your city can't even provide basic services.

Wait until "The Collective" gets loud and screams racism or some other divisive term for private businesses spending their own money drilling wells for reliable water. Richard's B!tch will then try to pass some fee or tax for people drilling their own wells and not relying on unreliable water. Hide and watch. You heard it here first.

If I were going to college today, I believe I would major in well digging. It certainly is a popular occupation in Jackson.

The fair grounds broke away so there is no water bill. What about sewage? Do they have a fee or how is that handled. What about Byrum? I know that West Rankin cut ties to Jackson and has it's own treatment plant.

Lets see how much of this new grant gets paid towards water and how much work really gets done. Bet that several projects don't get finished due to running out of funds.

That new grant is making a lot of palms smile.

I have two buildings in Jackson - one occupied, and one vacant. I receive a water bill for each, and both bills are the identical. I am billed an extra $11.00 per month on each account for using over 300 cf, however, I am positive that I am not using over 300 cf in either building. I finally called the water department and asked why. They said they are billing a me based on a flat rate since they cannot read my meter by satellite. My bills indicate that they have been doing this for at least 2 years. I requested a meter read and told them I was suspending payment until they read the meter. I did request a meter read about 6 months ago, and they never followed through. I wonder if they will read it this time. This department is a disgrace.

To 5:33 PM,

This may hurt your feelings,(and don't take this personal)...but the truth is not many give a rat's ass about your water woes.

Most of the smart business folks left Jackson years ago.

You stayed for some reason.

(Don't whine about it now ... like you're some kind of victim).

Jackson is a city with no middle class. Your either very very well off or very poor
The people left with money have a beach house and a Oxford
Condo they have loads of money and multiple kids in private school and country club memberships
The family’s remaining are those that own beach club in orange beach and spectrum in pearl Trustmark park land bass pro land and several Ergon family members and some of the large local home builders and plastic surgeons and a family that owns a house on Martha’s Vineyard and pebble beach. Some reason the burbs think all in Jackson are poor. Truth is quite opposite
My patients are always surprised I live in Jackson and many of there physicians do also. Problem is there are way too many poor people in the city that elect morons and mooch off the others

"If I were going to college today,..."

Here, let me fix it for you:

If I were going to college today, I, like anybody else in their right mind, would certainly not pick a Jackson school.

(And what type of parent would allow it?)

12:52 - A 'doctor' who butchers the English language like that?

Thank you! I was thinking the same thing.

I hope Millsaps does EPA level testing on their well daily and doesn't get a surprise in what it will cost to treat the "well water" and afford/find/ hire enough competent people to staff it.
I hope they understandabout sewage as it relates to drinkable water.
Far more important is to find out if what they are doing will reduce the existing water supply elsewhere (see western U.S. water issues from siphoning off too much source water to too few).

Of course, many of those with more money and ego than sense are represented here with their " I can afford it so I can buy whatever I want!".
I'm glad they can't buy clean air. Oh wait, maybe they see their grandchildren as still so rich, they can buy enough oxygen for a "bubble" like you've created for yourself only with a visible dome!

7:45 AM....I don't mind that the doctor made grammatical errors, as long as he doesn't "butcher" his patients. I am an official Grammar Nazi, but when I am writing a quick comment I don't always proof and correct. Be sensible. Most of my neighborhood (Belhaven) and our neighbors in Fondren do not live in Mansions with multiple other homes. We live in modest Craftsman style homes that meet our needs.

5:33, I am so glad you said this. I get billed the extra $11 per month also and there is NO way I am using over 300 cf. They came to house about a month ago, installed another meter. Got my bill and the reading for usage--first number matched last months but the second number was "est" for estimate. I called, just got new meter, why are you estimating AGAIN? Read the meter. Ok. Have they read it? No. Its infuriating. I thought I was the only one dealing with the extra $11 a month and getting no meter reads. Thanks for posting.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
