Jackson Water Crisis Update

Mayor gives garbage contract update.

Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is holding his weekly press conference.  The live-stream as well as MEMA and Jackson updates on the water system are posted below.

* Mayor said water pressure is holding at 88 PSI.

* OBC water production increased yesterday.

*  The system is not yet ready for testing but it is hoped boil water notices are lifted in days instead of weeks.

* A community meeting on the water crisis will be held tomorrow at College Hill Baptist Church tomorrow at 6 PM.  The address is 1600 Florence Avenue.

* Mayor is going to the Smart City Expo in Miami this week.  The expo is a White House and EPA initiative.  The Mayor will serve on an infrastructure panel.

* Mayor Lumumba wants to put the garbage contract up for a referendum.

* WLBT's Courtney Ann Jackson asked the Mayor to comment on an EPA investigation.  He refused to comment on personnel matters in the Public Works Department.  He said he had no information about the investigation.  He said someone contacted employees who in turn notified him.

MEMA Update on Jackson water treatment system

The two water treatment plants produced 43 million gallons, barely over 50% of capacity. Fewell produced 19 million gallons. The conventional side at OBC produced 12 million gallons while the membrane side produced 12 million gallons for a grand total of 24 million gallons at OBC.

Jackson statement on water treatment system.

The O.B. Curtis Water Plant remained at a steady pressure over the past 24 hours and is currently working at 88 PSI. Overall water production did increase yesterday on both the membrane and conventional side of the plant. All tanks are maintaining good margins of overhead storage. The team continues to work to increase production capacity.

Raw water pump #4 is being pulled back from the pump platform today. It was determined when it was installed Saturday that it requires additional repair. This does not affect current plant input. All raw water pumps that were in use remain in use, including the temporary rental pump. Sedimentation Basin #2 cleaning was completed and has been placed back in service on the conventional plant. Membrane Train #6 completed cleaning yesterday and Membrane Train #1 will be placed in cleaning cycle today. These cleaning cycles increase water production capacity.

A large group of EMAC (Emergency Management Assistance Compact) teams are now on site supplementing O.B. Curtis staff in addition to the assistance from the Mississippi Rural Water Association. The teams onsite are from South Carolina, Michigan and Maryland. Additional teams from Ohio will arrive today. These teams include operators, mechanics, instrument technicians and maintenance.

Investigative sampling will continue today to monitor water quality. At this time the distribution system is not ready for full sampling to clear the boil water notice. We will continue to evaluate when full sampling can begin. This is contingent upon sustained pressure. We will need two rounds of clear samples to be able to remove the boil water notice.

If you are experiencing discolored water or no pressure please, report using this tool https://arcg.is/0LDmjb. This will allow us to track any remaining issues and address them. We are currently monitoring this information to respond as needed.

Nice little Miami getaway to speak on "Building Smart, Equitable, and Sustainable 21st Century Cities"

We are so fortunate to have this talented dedicated leader in Jackson.

All I see is list after list of items which had no routine maintenance being performed.

"Mayor is going to the Smart City Expo in Miami this week. The expo is a White House and EPA initiative. The Mayor will serve on an infrastructure panel." So maybe they will use him as an example of what not to do?????

Anonymous said...

Hopefully, the Chokster will advise that panel in Miami on all the ways not maintain a city's infrastructure. I can't imagine anyone wanting his opinion on how to do anything successfully. What a fuckin' joke!!!

someone on Biden's staff is going to end up fired once the EPA indicts him for all the raw boo-boo that went into the pearl.

Does this fool have no shame? Isn't he utterly embarrassed to represent Jackson after how inept and incompetent the city and state have looked in the national media the last few weeks. I know I'm embarrassed and I don't live in Jackson. I've been fielding calls from family and friends from all over the country, its tiring explaining that its not the whole state, just Jackson. He's atrocious.

"The Mayor will serve on an infrastructure panel."

In other words, Lumumba is going to spread fertilizer in Miami this week.

Time is up said...

Jokeway needs to resign NOW. He’s still trying to collect his bribe money from Richard’s. It ain’t gonna happen. Tate's not letting him get the water money in his greedy hands either.

Anonymous said...

So the mayor was supposed to go to Miami twice in 2/3 weeks? Isn't that a little odd?

Anonymous said...

Will the Mayor share with the panel the importance of accurate metering the water delivered to customers, correct billing for same, and then collecting the amounts due?

Krusatyr said...

Instead of permitting Council and Courts to assign Lil Choke personal responsibility to pay $2M to Richard's, he wants a referendum in 6 months (?) time to stall his fate and convince his voter base to force Jackson's tax base to bail him out?

Perhaps Stokes could counter-offer a simultaneous referendum to force the failed mayor out of City Hall along with immediate emergency reinstatement of WM, meanwhile letting Court judgments proceed.

Keep winning Mayor Lumumba!

It is so satisfying watching these impotent white boys seethe!

The Mayor obviously has no concept of the City of Jackson Municipal Water Treatment Plan that EPA, State of Ms & Congressman Thompson has requested/required from the City of Jackson. The Mayor deflects to different power point presentations, preliminary cost estimates & data that he has cobbled together as a “plan”. In reality the Mayor has no plan.

@ 2:41

I love what he is doing. He is in the fight against inflation. He is bringing the price of real estate down to pre WWII levels. Good job Chok! Keep on winning.

Anonymous said...

Wow! The mayor and I will be in Miami at the same time. I’m attending the American B*** S*****s Association meeting. Maybe I can get him to address our group. He is imminently qualified.

Anonymous said...

He wants Jackson to have a referendum on who picks up the trash? Is this real? If Richards doesn't win will he veto the referendum?

Anonymous said...

There are hundreds of dummies like him in important positions being like they are not purely because of their race.

"Resilient Infrastructure and Smart Public Works" panel to be specific.

Chowke is in Miami! WTF! You can't make this stuff up.

Voters sent their Council person to City Hall to represent their wishes. The Council members rejected Richards several times. The referendum has been held. Nice try at deflection kiddee Mayor.

Jamarcus Russell will be in Canton, Ohio this weekend. He will be serving on an NFL quarterbacking panel.

Dave Chapelle will be in Dallas, Texas this weekend. He will be serving on a sensitivity and tolerance panel.

The head of the KKK will be in Birmingham, Alabama this weekend. He will be serving on an equal rights panel.

Kim Kardashian will be in Nashville, Tennessee this weekend at a Southern Baptist meeting. She will be on a Christian marriage and family panel.

I damn near fell out of my chair when I read Chockalot will serve on the Infrastructure panel in Miami- good lawd!!
Right?

I don't think "Building Smart" is the real BS that Chock will be talking about...

Anonymous said...

Why is the dumbest mayor of the dumbest capitol city in America going to panel at a "Smart City" expo?

Anonymous said...

@3:18

You win the interwebs for the week.

Anonymous said...

A referendum on garbage collection -- It will go for Richards due to the same voters who re-elected Chokwe will vote without thought for Richards. If by some miracle WM wins, then expect to see a veto and long legal fight from Chokwe.

Anonymous said...

Can someone please explain to this moron what a plan is?

Anonymous said...

I’m familiar with these types of conferences. Its a private venture that makes money on renting to expo booths. If the attendance to his session is over 50 people, I’ll be shocked.

Anonymous said...

How come the mayor didn't get this Miami conference to come to downtown Jackson. It's not like a group of that size needs potable water, ice and water pressure in hotel showers. Besides, it would be a really good 'field trip' for breakout groups interested in municipal infrastructure issues. It could be like a holding a war-strategy conference in The Ukraine.

Anonymous said...

How is a referendum to award a city contract legal? And this guy is a lawyer.

Anonymous said...

KF - you need to change your headlines when referencing Mayor Gumflapper's press conferences.

This should not be titled "Jackson Water Crisis Update". He really doesn't do any updating except reading what MEMA tells him is happening; what really is the subject of this gathering with the 'media' is:

"Jackson's Crisis - Mayor speaks"

Anonymous said...

@ 5:53. It isn't. But neither is creating a disaster, and then using your failure to declare an emergency so you can get your own way. Also, neither is vetoing a no vote.

This guy has a law degree and 'practiced' for a while; don't think he could ever in the past or in the future make it as a lawyer, though. Anyone stupid enough to argue in court that you could veto a no vote ain't got much of a lawyer, or a client. Worse yet, though, is filing an appeal.

Anonymous said...

In case anyone outside Jackson wonders where all our taxpayer money is going that SHOULD be used to maintain basic services like police, water, and sewage, here's your answer.

This mayor (Lying Lumumba) is using our money for:

-his weekly getaways to various luxury vacation destinations
-enriching his buddies (like the attorneys who got $30 'MILLION' for handling the settlement Siemens had already agreed to pay)
-funding his various ridiculous legal disputes such as his "I should be able to veto a veto!" suit, which he is taking all the way to the MS Supreme Court. At our expense.

Thanks again to all the dumbasses in Jackson who voted for this idiot.

Please stay home next election. Please.

Anonymous said...

Imagine governance if every contract in the city was up for referendum. What a literal dumpster fire.

Anonymous said...

Jackson resident here. I voted for this loon. He needs to resign. He’s on local news speaking and acting as if he’s in charge.

Anonymous said...

They couldn't have invited anyone less qualified than Lumumba. He KNOWS NOTHING about the subject being discussed.

Resilient Infrastructure and Smart Public Works

Urban infrastructure systems and their effective and reliable operation ensure delivery of energy, mobility, water, sanitation, and information on a daily basis and during unplanned or unforeseeable situations. However, the population in cities keeps growing, and the rapid urbanization and climate change put our urban infrastructure under pressure. Under the pressure to act on these challenges, local authorities aim at setting ambitious urban agendas that can advance resilient, energy-efficient, and sustainable buildings, infrastructures, and cities as a whole. What do city leaders need to consider for contributing to a better quality of life through smart, sustainable and a well-integrated and intelligent city infrastructure?

fed up in Jackson said...

So we have state and federal agencies parked at and repairing our water treatment plants that have been under a consent decree, you just let go the person you placed in charge of the plant / plants, agencies have set up water distribution facilities, you have had agenciesmpublicy show the public works dept is a shit show……..and on a personal note, I have a waterline repair on my street that was done in august of 2016 and is still a pile of limestone…..and four lane road shut down to 2 lanes in the area that experiences heavy school traffic and no active construction is going on, and a water line break on old canton that is left with HOLES and an array of unorganized orange barrels, and the MAYOR is going to Miami to be on a panel about INFRASTRUCTURE……His ass should be arrested before he gets on the plane

Anonymous said...

Good heavens... is this real life? He has inflicted the most disastrous impact on HIS city, leaves on the reg to various resorts/luxury hotels, speaks about how to fix issues that HIS city is suffering from under HIS "leadership". You can not make this stuff up. His inner circle of "friends" are all newly rich thanks to his handing off all the money meant to improve life for Jacksonians to them via various failed projects (Siemens water/airport/parking garage et al). Can Shad or someone audit the city services, the mayor, and the money trail? Bless all the people in Jackson who are suffering and watching property values drop and rents rise at the same time. It would be difficult to pinpoint more of a failure than this guy is. (Also - is his wife/family traveling with him to all these fun vacays? If not, who is keeping him company? JW. GTG my fingers are worn out typing all the quotation marks...

This is what's happening in Flint, Michigan.
Eighteen officials have been indicted on state charges related to alleged acts and omissions in relation to the Flint Water Crisis. Nine of these officials, including former Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, remain under indictment and are awaiting trial. Criminal charges range from perjury and obstruction of justice to misconduct in office and involuntary manslaughter.

In the next 12 months this will be happening in Jackson.

Thank you 9:40 PM - for posting comments that have absolutely nothing to do with what is going on in Jackson MS.

Your trying to suggest that the failuren of local government in Flynt is similar to the failure of local government in Jackson is similar may have some connection - both were related to incompetent management by the Mayors (operators of the system). But the difference in how they were addressed, and the resulting systems have nothing to do with each other. Could they have? Possibly - but its the difference in approach and competence of those moving in to fix the shit caused by the incompetent mayors.

Thankfully, we won't see any of this happening in Jackson - now, in 12 months, or ever. But thanks for your wasting that space and giving KF another click, along with my click and response.

Anonymous said...

4:13 I think you could say that about every elected official in Mississippi.

Anonymous said...

9:40pm
Flint MI covered up lead in their water and it has taken years for those indictments to process. MS has different issues and fewer culprits, primarily the mayor, who knows he's culpable and hence out of desperation spreads fairy tales on national media to deflect focus on his guilt.

Anonymous said...

@ "Jackson resident here. I voted for this loon."

Why?

Anonymous said...

1:13am & 7:55am

Jackson also has lead issues and has had for years. This is the reason for the EPA involvement since 2016.

EPA issued emergency orders to Jackson because of the lead that required Jackson to put in certain measures. It appears Jackson did not heed those orders.

don't dismiss Flint so quickly

A referendum, assuming the council approved it as a ballot measure (unlikely), would be non-binding. In other words, a waste of time and resources (unless coupled with November general election). Yet another obfuscatory, political ploy by the coiffed Miami-ite.

Anonymous said...

If the mayor wants the people to vote on the garbage contract, he must not have much faith in his veto appeal.

It is apparent that the marxist wants to side step the representative democracy that is the city government.

That would render the checks, and balances of the city council null and void. This action gives the impression the mayor wants dictatorial authority, which is common place in the marxist philosophy.

Will the people of Jackson see this elaborate ruse, for what it is? Will the city council relinquish its power, and authority?

For answers to these questions, and other exciting news, stay tune to Jackson Jambalaya for another exciting blog of as Jackson turns.

It was comforting to see David Archie barking on the news that he demands that the Feds give these repair contracts to minority groups to ensure equality.

I was worried for a minute that Jackson leaders actually wanted results instead of shoddy work and failure to grease each other's palms.

I am sure that His Honor would like a "garbage referendum" because he is convinced that between himself, his Chief of Staff, and Rukia they can rig the vote count to go his way. Then the Mayor can hold a presser and announce that the "people have spoken."

Anonymous said...

Antar does not give a rat’s ass where the voters stand on Richards vs WM or any other matter. He wants to know where HE STANDS with the voters. It’s a charade, a bait-and switch, to change the subject and gauge the extent to which we hold him accountable for the water crisis. The “when I was elected mayor, you were elected mayor” and “let the people speak” are elements of the contrivance he is concocting to get him a taxpayer-funded popularity contest. I did not hesitate to let the Council members know I’m sick and tired of money and resources being wasted on Antar Lumumba’s vanity projects.

The mayor has a very important reason for going to Florida. He, and the city of Jackson, is going to be the before picture about the fall and rise of a city. I do wonder what city is going to be the after picture.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
