War Zone

Perhaps Pastor Dwayne Pickett should send Polo into the neighborhood behind his church to settle things down because it has turned into a war zone over the past week as shootouts and murders bloody the area.

A shootout took place on Southbrook Drive last Wednesday night around 8 PM.  Residents reported on social media they heard over thirty rounds were fired. A yute was wounded but no one was arrested. WLBT reported April 28:

A teenager was injured in a shooting Wednesday night in Jackson. Deputy Chief Deric Hearn confirms the shooting in the 300 block of Southbrook in Precinct 4. He says someone in a silver or grey Honda Accord fired shots into several homes in the area. A 19-year-old boy was shot in the right ankle as he was walking to a store. Article

The run of murder and mayhem was not complete as more violence and possible retaliation took place Saturday.  A 14 year-old was shot to death at 2 PM  on nearby Sedgwick Court.  WAPT reported:

Investigators have identified the victim as Johnquis Kelly, a ninth-grader at Murrah High School. Jackson Public Schools officials said counselors have been made available for students and faculty.

Two other teenagers, ages 18 and 17, were both critically injured during the shooting, according to investigators.

Police said the three teens went to Sedgwick Court to pick up some shoes. Shortly afterward, a vehicle pulled up, someone got out and started shooting at them with what police said was an assault-style rifle.

No arrests have been made in the case. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS.

The deceased's social media accounts reveal a rather sad picture.  Sad as this was just a kid, barely a teen. 14 years old and already wanting to show he's a tough guy.  Damn.

The sound of gunfire in that area is nothing new as residents are forced to endure the staccato symphony every so often as yutes fire off their wonderpistols and similar-looking rifles.  The only question now is will retaliation fuel an escalation of violence in the neighborhood.

Worthless pieces of shit... the lot of them

I suspect that in the “neighborhood” this thug probably lives in, it is a “red badge of courage” to be shot and survive.

This is not going to end well. 2022 may well be the most violent year in American history. Truly amazing how low we have sunk!

Used to be a great neighborhood Until the gangstas moved in

Now Northeast Jackson isn't safe

That is a free-fire zone. It would be fun to cruise around that area flashing gang signs until one of those yutes displays a piece and then cap his ass. Urban renewal/public service.

I don’t want any innocent person to get killed. I don’t any bystander to get hit by a poor marksman. That said, it seems many , if not most of those killed aren’t exactly model citizens. Of course there are exceptions but not often.

JPD go door-to-door & talk to parents! That’s what community policing is all about. Get out of those police cars and work the community!

11:45 : Yeah, i'm sure you would.

Who or what is Polo and how could it help?

Are the soccer fields off Westbrook still being used? Southbrook and Sedgwick back up to it if so.

Do you idiots who voted for King Chowke have buyer's remorse yet?

"Pastor" Pickett prefers to spend his time supporting Richards Disposal as the city's garbage collection contractor than doing anything good for his community. Why would he do that if it wasn't something in it for him?

Worthless piles of human debris, thanks to a failed school system, absentee fathers (likely) and also likely, mothers who weren't prepared to be proper mothers. Now they are a blight on society, roaming the streets like feral animals looking for their next target to rob or kill.

Jackson has a gang problem. City leaders need to say it out loud.

Both of those are several blocks away from JCC and the PGA tournament and Parham Bridges. And Hickory Pit. And JA. If this doesn't get addressed asap, there will be nothing left of Jackson. I know, I know, it has been bad, but this is way beyond anything we had pre-Chokwe. This is beyond the rhetoric. This is third world.

Come up for air more often.
As much as Polo has been in the news the last few days, you still are unaware?

Prince Chowke has explicitly stated that there are no gangs in Jackistan. That must be the truth, right?

"Elections have consequences"-B. Obama

How is that holistic approach working out for Chokwe, Virgi?

It's past time that worthless judges get removed.

What happened to the task force that included federal, state and local law enforcement officers working together to reduce crime in Jackson? Haven’t heard anything about it in recent weeks.

12:32 : I've heard the PGA is gonna be moving the tourny to Mossy Oak very very soon.

Just a stone's throw, literally, from where David Archie used (wink, win) to live. Right?

That was a nice neighborhood when I grew up in Jaxn in the 70s and 80s, as safe as any neighborhood in the city, lots of friends lived there. McCleod was a good public school which anchored the neighborhood, although most who could afford private school did so. The neighborhood began to decline following the floods of 79 and 83 as many folks moved out to higher ground after their homes went underwater (or nearly so) twice in a few years. The neighborhood has never been the same and has steadily spiraled downward, apparently now into the abyss. The amazing thing is that it sits immediately under the nose of JPD Precinct 4 -- suppose that's indicative of the level of policing going on in our city.

Current Day Number: 123
Homicides to date: 41 (according to WLBT)

41/123 = 0.333(repeating)
0.3333 * 365 = 121

According to the math 2022 should be Top 3. Who knows maybe we'll have a particularly bloody summer.

Polo meaning "Napoleon" Edwards. You know the guy wanted for murder in Clinton?

Jackson Municipal Code Sec. 86-8- Discharge of firearms within city.
(a) Misdemeanor- mandatory 90 days in jail with $1,000 fine.

If this was being enforced there aren’t enough jail cells to hold them all, and at $1k a pop the budget problem is solved.

Wonder how much of the ammo and small arms meant to be sent to Ukraine made it's way to Jackson.

"12:32 : I've heard the PGA is gonna be moving the tourny to Mossy Oak very very soon. "

Why not move it back to Madison? There was never a problem when they held the tournament there.

Anonymous said...

2:21 : Pros didn't like the course ? Racism ? Drainage issues ?IDK why they moved it to be honest. Do you know why ?

Anonymous said...

In Madison the problem was/is parking and access. Great course though.

I concur with 2:06, that was the neighborhood I grew up in for the first 13 years of my life. My brother, sister and I would walk from our house over one street to McLeod. This was the place when integration took place in 1970 and I met some lifelong friends there. Time off was spent riding our bikes to Colonial Mart for the Sunflower store and Hemphill Drugs soda fountain. I moved with the family about four blocks away in 1974 and left my home of 47 years finally last November. I also remember the night in 1979 I spent pulling people out of their homes in the Sedgewick neighborhood because of the Easter Flood. We had a real community then. It is a shame that this great area of NE Jackson is falling apart.

Guys, this just shows that we need more guns on the streets. Loosening gun restrictions worked so well back in 2013, which was followed almost immediately by an uptick in gun violence (that continues to this day). I say we do it again! This time, we can give guns to kindergarteners.

Joe Sanderson has 2 daughters who live in Country Club subdivision.

There's your answer.

Anonymous said...

Yes, the soccer fields are still very much in use by Jackson Futbol Club. Big tournaments a few times a year, practices during the week. They own the fields, so it's not feasible to abandon them.

I have a probelm if my kids post gym selfies in tight clothing that might be a tad risque.

But these parents cant even be bothered to intervene when thier kid is brandishing a (of course, stolen) firearm in solical media pics.

Parents are failures. Absolute worthless failures.

And no amount of government or welfare will ever fix this.

8:45 : Well said and Mr. Pickett is a shuck and jive artist. Not a man of God.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
