A.G. Retreats

Attorney General Lynn Fitch issued the following statement.

Our job is to defend the rule of law, even when it is hard. Every case is thoroughly examined without fear or favor. We have concluded our review of 86 officer-involved shootings since the Legislature gave the AGO this responsibility, and we have found the use of force by the officer justified without any further action in all but four. In this case, we followed the process, leading to today's jury verdict of not guilty for one officer and a hung jury for another. In the case of a tie, the benefit of the doubt goes to our law enforcement officers and we will not seek to retry this case. The men and women who wear the uniform have earned that.

Commissioner of Public Safety Sean Tindall issued the following statement.

The jury considered the evidence and rendered the correct verdict, acquitting former Capitol Police Officer Steven Frederick. I was also pleased to learn that former Capitol Police Officer Michael Rhinewalt will not face another trial after the same jury did not reach a verdict in his case.

Kingfish note: Yet another criminal prosecution A.G. prosecutors lose.

Any word on what we're talking about here?

Attorney General Lynn Fitch, Lindsay Cranford, Luke Williamson and Brandon Ogburn should be ashamed of themselves for having anything to do with this case. They should never be allowed to be prosecutors again. Playing with two people’s lives for their own political gain. SHAME!!!

The case should never have been prosecuted. Period.

Fitch is an embarrassment to the AGs office.

Ryne has another trial coming up soon in which he is a defendant for the same infraction. Was he making PR videos for his firearms Instructor services? Was he suffering from ptsd or what? Maybe just patroling the violent streets in America.

@8:38 is correct, and she'd be an even bigger embarrassment as Governor. She is pitifully unprepared, and gutted the AG office of competent prosecutors and investigators the first month she was in office. Brought in a bunch of inexperienced, unprepared, young attorneys that have no business on that big of a stage.

@9:30 hit the nail squarely on the head. She ran off mist of the lawyers there, which represented many decades worth of excellent public service with a treasure trove of institutional knowledge and replaced them with political hacks who know nothing about the law or even their responsibilities as members of the AG’s office. It’s obvious Lynn Fitch never read the job description of the AG’s duties and responsibilities. She is a joke, but it’s not funny. It’s pathetic.

There was never any black Hinds Democrat crossover vote to start with.

"...she'd be an even bigger embarrassment as Governor..."

That's a pretty high bar. Tater's the latest measure, with the chin-waddlin' Velve...er, processed cheese...slathered with Miracle...er, "salad dressing" on cheap white bread image. And then, to back that up, the Phil-n-tha-Farve shitshow. Just one more ding in the Mississippi attempt to reach the 19th century. But hey, Ole Miss done whipped LSU, so it's all good. Right?

Fitch is an embarrassment to the State of Mississippi….

Where is Franny Springer et al?

What at joke

Fitch is your token woman in Mississippi with Hyde-Smith your token woman in Washington. Good job voters. Maybe she or cowboy hat or Gunn can be your next governor. Who is the Democrat that is running for? Can that party provide the state with a good leader? Never thought I would think this way but the choices suck!

That was the longest, most confusing & rambling explanation explanation of the incident possible by Scott Adams.

You people who have never held an elected office sure are hard on Ms Fitch. Not sure what you would have her do or not due in her office, aside from this case which was a mistake but may have been forced upon her.

Anonymous said...

A humorist you are not.

Anonymous said...

8:17. Forced upon her by whom? Poor Lynn. What could she DOOOOO.? They made her prosecute this case, It’s not her fault, y’all! Stop it. She had to! Now, let’s put this aside and focus on the future. Fitch for governor. Because not even the Trump administration could put up with her level of incompetence.

You people who have never held an elected office ...

That's right. No one is entitled to have an opinion about politicians and their job performance while in office than other politicians and former office holders.

Get serious.

She was playing to Jackson's "hate white cops" crowd (voters/pols) (Chowke, Jody, etc.).

They were both indicted by a grand jury - I don't fully know the procedure but assume the AG still had prosecutorial discretion so technically wasn't "forced" to go to trial but it's a pretty bad look to not try a case that was indicted.

How the hell is this woman a viable candidate for governor? She has been ineffective as ever. Only thing she has done is political hot button issue, and self-aggrandizement. Literally, a noun, a verb, and the Dobbs case.

She has notoriously fumbled several important criminal prosecutions. She even is slow-walking that creepy doctor from UMMC who she made a fuss about "gathering complaints" yet nothing has occurred, and he still has not been convicted. God only knows how ineffective a governor she would be, based on her performance as an AG.

I am guessing Fitch will not get the police endorsement for governor. She is a joke and is an embarrassment to the legal profession. But then again, most lawyers are not great politicians and politicians are crappy lawyers...that's why they became politicians.

Anonymous said...

11:21 you should stop embarrassing yourself.

Praises the police by day, persecutes them at night.

Any word on candidates who will replace her?

Anonymous said...

Send her to Kalifornia to run for governor there.

"most lawyers are not great politicians and politicians are crappy lawyers...that's why they became politicians."

I wholeheartedly agree. They use completely different skill-sets.

When an attorney tries to practice politics in court, it can easily result in a Bar complaint and possible disbarment.

"There was never any black Hinds Democrat crossover vote to start with."

It wouldn't be 'crossover' when there no democrat running for the office to begin with.

Anonymous said...

I wasn’t sure who to vote for for Gov. After this, I’m still not sure but it won’t be Lynn Fitch.

Anonymous said...

Wait ... Mississippi has an AG?

People like her, prosecuting policemen for political gain, is why we will all end up in hell.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
