It will be a steel cage, no rules, no time limit, loser must leave town match next month as the city of Jackson and the State of Mississippi square off in a federal courtroom over who controls the airport.
U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves stated in the docket today:
Reset Hearings: Bench Trial set for 6/22/2026 at 09:00 AM in Courtroom 5B (Jackson) Reeves before District Judge Carlton W. Reeves
It's time for some war.

It's a bench trial where he will use AI on his tablet to make decisions from the bench.
You're thinking of Judge Wingate.
Until then this is all up in the air.
Oops, sorry. Thanks for the correction.
The commission is worried that if the state takes over the airport there won't be any more junkets to Paris.
@12:28, I am worried that State picked grifters will spend TANF funds in Paris.
We already know who's going to win this one.
Chokwe seems awfully quiet lately. Can't imagine why he hasn't been all over this defending the citizens of Jackson.
Has he moved on to bigger things?
Have the airport folks been to Hawaii lately? To do 'business' on the taxpayer's dime?
Bench trial with this Judge. We already know what the outcome will be.
10 years. That’s how long this $h!+ has been pending. And at least another two years to go before the 5th Circuit finally puts a bullet in the head of this abortion of a lawsuit.
Why hasn’t Jackson done anything to develop all of that land north and east of the airport?
1:04. Because developers don’t want to lease the land! Same reason PRV still has numerous undeveloped land.
1:04 did you just use the words ‘Jackson’ and ‘develop’ in the same sentence?
Carlton Reeves will rule in favor of Jackson. The 5th circuit has all but directed him to rule in favor of the State in the airport case.
That's analogous to using Jackson and First World in the same sentence. (For JPS alumni "analogous" means similar or alike)
I was at JAN this past summer picking up an accident report for an auto accident. The power to the entire airport cut off. They said it does that when it gets really hot outside. This was direct from someone in the upper offices. It's past time to put competent people in charge. They spend more time and effort on who's name is on the sign out front than running an efficient and working airport.
So what is the expected outcome of this trial? A few comments seem to imply that the outcome is already known.
How can Jackson attract private business investment if prospective business people have to fly in and out of Mogidishu? And the State cannot trust Jackson with money.
Build a new airport outside of Jackson and let the one in Jackson die
I always "belly laugh" about Jackson
"community organizers / city officials" jetting over to Paris for an air show.
And still having the nerve to return and say ... "our trip will help to increase flights from Monroe, Alexandria and Shreveport" into Jackson".
Original 1975 SNL writers couldn't come up with such funny material.
I always hate flying out of Jackson. You always see the Republican top brass on your flight when you connect in ATL. I was on the same flight with Barney Rebel, Jekyll and Hyde, and Herb Firestone. Even if the state takes it over they won’t do any better with it. What are they gonna do get Gabe Prado out there to put in a Dubai Gift?
Can my State tax dollars support anything else in the City of Jackson. Already have water, roads, police,…
Does COJ own the Air Guard base- Thompson Field?- Also? If so, does the Air Guard lease it from COJ?
Back when YouTube was still pleasant to use, I watched an old TV pilot for a show with Joan Crawford as the star. It (Royal Bay: 1964) was in the early '60s, when community boosterism was still big. The narrator was talking about his pride in his town and how it was booming (in Southern California - back when the place and its people were nice). The pilot was beyond-awful: cooked-up and acted by the sort of fellas who still gave cigarette-on-legs Joan Crawford the time of day. But that monologue about "my town" is a valuable artifact. It documents how people felt - and planned - back then.
I'm sure that the narrative was meant to echo how people all over America saw their growing towns - in an age before our cities became cancers to be contained. It was all about coordinating, streamlining, and connecting. Why NOT put a piece of the city, out in an undeveloped county, where the airport wouldn't pose a safety and noise problem?
Nobody envisioned White Trash Rankin County cronyism putting multiple red lights and stops between the Airport and the Interstate (there should be NONE: stops reduce efficiency, and waste time - a major consideration where airport viability is concerned).
Nobody envisioned the greedy and irresponsible, "developing" the safety buffer zones around the Airport (designed to absorb crashes and noise). And nobody envisioned World Communism weaponizing portions of the populace, in order to destroy our cities.
Today, we have to think in terms of 'Regional', rather than 'Municipal', because our cities have been sabotaged and destroyed (now, they're merely containment centers for the Zombie Hordes). And it's time to consider the Airport in purely REGIONAL terms. Our cities are no longer the stars and centers of our regions.
Where 5:09?? How many acres would a regional airport require? Pave over the rez?? Where else is drivable in "Central MS?"
JAN must improve. Hawkins, Madison, hell, even Raymond all have airfields. And they are fine for GA and private charter. JAN caters to the general public and those services currently suck ass (apologies to asses everywhere...there is GOOD ass available i hear...somewhere, just not at JAN. Sorry, all...here all week...tip ur waitress!).
It appears the Madison County Board of Supervisors (Banks, Griffin and Brannon) have voted to withdraw from the JAN lawsuit. Madison County was named in the suit filed since it would have a seat on the committee if the State prevails.
