Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson is back on the Empower Podcast—and this time, he’s not just talking policy, he’s running for Lt. Governor… seemingly unopposed (at least for now).
In a race that’s off to such a commanding start that even a few Democrats have been spotted at his kickoff, Watson may already be doing the political equivalent of clearing the field before the game even begins.
Grant sits down with Watson for a more personal conversation, tracing his roots from a blue-collar, faith-centered upbringing on the Gulf Coast to his rise through the State Senate and into the Secretary of State’s office. Along the way, Watson reflects on how those experiences shape his leadership—and why he believes consistency and conviction still matter in public service.
They cover faith, family, education, and the future of Mississippi, offering a look at a candidate who’s not just campaigning for the next office, but making the case that he’s already the one to beat.

He's a great man and will be a fantastic LT. Gov.
The Gulf Coast is licking its chops. One hopes that Michael is smart enough to know better than to forget how republicans are first elected to and then remain in office in Mississippi. The coast, alone, will not carry a statewide office candidate.
The Republican Jacob's Ladder continues to elevate Republican officeholders, without examination of their qualifications. I'm not saying that Watson isn't qualified, but who knows if there is no primary? Michael is a fraternity Brother of mine, but I wish he would go through a primary.
Good points, 11:56 and 12:41. The coast has been under represented forever. And, the GOP has become the 1960’s version of Democrats. All candidates should vetted by folks who understand policy. I don’t see that happening.

Watson may not get a challenge on the GOP side, at least. He's going to be tough for anyone to beat out.
Why would you want your frat bro to go through a primary? Thats not very frat brotherly. He has probably already rigged the election after years at SOS !
I think he'd make a good Lt. Gov. Problem is, I think he's a good Sec of State and hate to loose him in that position.
What's this bullshit about 'the coast'. Since when do the job duties of a Light Guv suggest he/she (and her truck) cater to a particular region of the state?
Having watched Watson closely for years, he's the political equivalent of Caspar Milquetoast. The gentleman vacating that position is a cross between a rattlesnake and an opossum.
How about a primary with a couple of fire-in-the-belly true republicans with a brass pair?
What does a Secretary of State do? Well, other than use his office to publish five times a year that Voter ID is working fine in Mississippi?
He is equally as boring as State Treasurer McRae. Five in the House and Six in the senate would lead him around like a pig with a nose-ring.
Make sure your address is current with Equifax you might just disappear from the voter rolls!
Another milquetoast MAGAtard, just what Mississippi needs.
He can't insure that addresses of the businesses that register with the state are correct. Check out the notice on his website while searching for a business. Bogus addresses to businesses. Seriously?
It is quite common in the construction industry. Fake address to your LLC ... no problem with the state! They don't even check to see if it is a real location.
Wouldn't elect the man as dog catcher. He is not helping our state - he is hurting it.
In a hundred words or less, please reveal your plan for checking the physical address of every applicant who plans to do business in the state.
