JPD issued the following statement.
On Saturday, April 25, 2026, at approximately 7:30pm JPD was dispatched to Leavell Woods Park regarding an Aggravated Assault in which two individuals had been shot. The shooting occurred as a large group of young people gathered for a celebration. When officers arrived on scene the crowd had dispersed. Officers located one of the victims lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. Precinct 1 officers administered basic life support until AMR arrived and transported him to a local hospital. The second victim had already been transported to the hospital by private vehicle. Robbery/Homicide Detectives and the Mobile Crime Unit were called out. The scene was processed and several individuals are being interviewed by detectives. Homicide detectives were notified after he was transported to the hospital that 18- year-old Justin Body had succumbed to his injury. His next of kin has been notified. The second victim was still in the hospital at the time of this press release. This is an active investigation. He was going to graduate from high school next month.
