Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson is back on the Empower Podcast—and this time, he’s not just talking policy, he’s running for Lt. Governor… seemingly unopposed (at least for now).
In a race that’s off to such a commanding start that even a few Democrats have been spotted at his kickoff, Watson may already be doing the political equivalent of clearing the field before the game even begins.
Grant sits down with Watson for a more personal conversation, tracing his roots from a blue-collar, faith-centered upbringing on the Gulf Coast to his rise through the State Senate and into the Secretary of State’s office. Along the way, Watson reflects on how those experiences shape his leadership—and why he believes consistency and conviction still matter in public service.
They cover faith, family, education, and the future of Mississippi, offering a look at a candidate who’s not just campaigning for the next office, but making the case that he’s already the one to beat.

He's a great man and will be a fantastic LT. Gov.
The Gulf Coast is licking its chops. One hopes that Michael is smart enough to know better than to forget how republicans are first elected to and then remain in office in Mississippi. The coast, alone, will not carry a statewide office candidate.
The Republican Jacob's Ladder continues to elevate Republican officeholders, without examination of their qualifications. I'm not saying that Watson isn't qualified, but who knows if there is no primary? Michael is a fraternity Brother of mine, but I wish he would go through a primary.
Good points, 11:56 and 12:41. The coast has been under represented forever. And, the GOP has become the 1960’s version of Democrats. All candidates should vetted by folks who understand policy. I don’t see that happening.

Watson may not get a challenge on the GOP side, at least. He's going to be tough for anyone to beat out.
Why would you want your frat bro to go through a primary? Thats not very frat brotherly. He has probably already rigged the election after years at SOS !
I think he'd make a good Lt. Gov. Problem is, I think he's a good Sec of State and hate to loose him in that position.
