An Afghan national, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, ambushed and shot two National Guard soldiers, Sarah Beckstrom and Andrew Wolfe, on November 26 in Washington DC. Beckstrom later died of her injuries.
The Justice Department charged Lakanwal with first-degree murder.
However, the Mississippi Congressman just could not help himself and called Beckstrom's murder "an unfortunate accident" during a Homeland Security Committee meeting yesterday. Watch Bennie Thompson in action.

He was part of a group of black leaders who defended the actions of a New Republic Africa group when it killed a Jackson police officer, Lt Louis Skinner in 1971. This is the same Bennie Thompson who tried to strip a President of his Secret Service protection. A President who was later shot and the target of another assassination attempt.
