What Does it Take to Get Arrested in Jackson?

A man stabbed his wife on St. Andrew's Drive recently yet CCJ members say JPD officers refused to catch the suspect.

Michael Griffin was a dishwasher at the Country Club of Jackson.  His wife was driving him to work on the morning of September 7 when the couple got into an argument.  Griffin allegedly stabbed her in the shoulder with a kitchen knife. The vehicle crashed on St. Andrew's Drive.  Griffin fled on foot.

The Jackson Fire and Police Departments closed off part of the street as the vehicle struck a natural gas meter on a house.

CCJ members spotted Griffin later that morning and notified JPD officers at the crime scene.  However, the police refused to leave the scene and apprehend the suspect.

A member saw Griffin sitting on the levee behind CCJ  late that afternnon as the member walked his dog.  He called 911 and JPD dispatched a unit.  The member met the police at the gate where the levee's walking path begins.  However, the police refused to get out of their vehicle and catch the suspect. After some discussion with the member, they left the area.

While the police fled the scene, members kept on eye on Griffin.  Soon after sundown, the suspect walked all the way to Parham Bridges Park as members shadowed him down Old Canton Road.  Another call was made to 911 but nothing took place.  In frustration, a member called Sheriff Tyree Jones.

Sheriff Jones immediately took action and dispatched two units.  One came from Pocahontas.  They arrested Griffin at Parham Bridges Park.

Griffin was charged with aggravated assault.  Of course when members finally spoke to JPD Command, everyone pointed fingers at each other.

Not sure how this one can be blamed on Chokwe. This is a systemic problem up and down the command-staff chain. No leadership. No expectations.

Time for a presser.

JPD is lost. They were hoping Capitol Police would show up even though CCJ is not their jurisdiction, I think. Sad how this department, JPD, is commiting professional suicide. Thought the newly appointed Chief was going to do something positive with JPD.

Who blamed it on him?

I had two people shoot at me three days in one week. Finally got JPD there the third time after three calls. The officer told me I could file an affidavit for misdemeanor assault.

Dayum! You’ve obviously got a smart phone there. Google “moving company”…..

"Who blamed it on him? "

Um, he is ultimately responsible for his police, isn't he?

I blame it on the mayor. Everyone including JPD knows he only cares about monetizing his office by doling out contracts. His city attorney goes to court and says that’s what he cares about.

@ 5:09

Sounds like as lucky as you have been lately you need to buy a lottery ticket- Powerball drawing tonight about $675 million.

Just one ticket should get it done!

IT's JPD, you actually expect professionalism from them?

Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba said at the press conference that crime is down. Now we see how, just don't arrest the crooks!

When is the MS Supreme Court ruling on Capitol City Police?

Anonymous said...

I just can’t imagine how a JPD officer can put on a their uniform and be proud. That must be real depressing to the Police Officers trying to make a difference. My brothers, my heart go out to y’all!

Someone is destroying JPD!

Just take the damn knife from this fool and take his ass back to work!

Good job Hinds SO

I heard a some people talking the other day that said JPD no longer has Jail facilities in Jackson and Raymond doesn’t want the locals from Jackson, so JPD has no where to take people they arrest. So they don’t make arrests anymore…. 😳

What does it take to get arrested in Jackson? Tear down the gate in the Mayors enclave, take his body guards donuts/coffee cup, arrest and lockup the wrong dope boy and piss on the Mayors gator boots.

Now I’m just kidding, I don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s that damn ole Smokey moonshine talking, I mean typing!

I forgot one more, touch the Mayors hair and put your finger in his face.

Ok honey I’m coming to bed, just one more drink!

The King and Police are doing and outstanding job, they could not assist in the arrest cause a stabber was on the loose, they were trying to get the King back into his gated community.

Code Red, Code Red a stabber is on the loose, secure the King!

I need to go to bed, goodnight!

Pay attention to I55. They are writing tickets to Madison and Rankin County residents instead of patrolling the primary streets they are responsible for. You can not get them to respond if you a victim of a crime, but they will find you if they can squeeze some cash out of you for doing 5 over. Still waiting for them to respond to my wreck 2 years later. Bottom line is you need to speed down 55 if you need help. HA

Step right up! Watch cause and effect play out in real time in Jackson! You won’t believe your eyes!

CCJ is too far north, no matter what happens with HB1020 Capitol Police won't have jurisdiction up there. They may would show up if called though, so worth a shot. They are patrolling my street pretty regularly in NE Jackson south of Northside. They would be the only call I'd make if I ever had to make a call.

It wasn’t me who blamed him, but I will. Right here and now. If he’s not micromanaging every department, he’s got Omari or someone else doing it. Attrition has probably doubled or tripled in the 6 years he’s been in office. KF, why don’t you share some numbers with us, starting with JPD? How many officers were on the force when he was first elected and how many are there today?
Then let’s work our way to the Public Works Department. Same question, just change officer to employee. The entire culture starts with him.

If things have gotten so bad that you want to stab your wife then it’s time for a divorce. My wife is a treasure and I couldn’t live without her.

I assume someone asked why JPD didn't approach him.

The member they spoke with should have been able to report what explanation they gave if any.

Did they think he had a gun and could see them coming and flee to a nearby home before they could catch him ? Were they worried about "collateral damage" given the scene in that moment?

Perhaps not,but being at a scene long ago with a knife wielding crazy man posing a threat, he had a second weapon, fortunately another knife and someone was more severely injured than his first victim even though he was wounded by a gunshot and the first shot had missed but hit his trailer without hurting anyone. I remember the "news" stories then so I am not jumping to conclusions.

We do so like the "blame game" and stories with heroes and cowards.

Keep hearing about these "members" who knew, called, watched & followed this guy throughout the day.

If there were some "NON-members" around, they would've taken control of the situation.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps the officers were afraid because to perp had a knife and they were afraid they might have to use dose to apprehend him. They know they could be prosecuted for that.

Fun watching Joseph Wade traipse around acting as if he's the Chief of a real municipal police force. Just another Lumumba rump bump.

Anonymous said...

I assumed we would eventually reach a time when cops genuinely choose to take no action, rather than face woke mobs that think cops should use words and cookies to detain thugs.

Anonymous said...

As usual, nothing about this from our great local news stations. Lil choke might get mad at them if they dared to report jpd slacking. Imagine those ccj Kens and Karen’s “shadowing” this guy as he walks down old canton 😂😂.

9:07, I have a degree in journalism and I don't remember ever hearing that, except from people who just want to criticize.

Lumumba didn't need to de-fund JPD. He just didn't spend the money the counsel allocated, kept staffing levels at about 60%, fired everyone who didn't buy in to his "self-policing community" BS, pushed the DA to indict some officers for doing their jobs, and viola! Mission accomplished!

Anonymous said...

Yet people will cry racism when a takeover by Capitol Police is brought up. I think CPD needs to hire about 100 more officers and just take over the whole city.

Anonymous said...

Bottom Line: Hats off to the Hinds County Sheriff Dept. Thank you for a good job.

Anonymous said...

@10:26 AM Good for you, but that expression isn't taught in online journalism courses.

I want any Mayor to do good and walk without fear with all the people they serve. However Jackson Mississippi has to get a handle on crime.

It is incomprehensible that the Jackson City Administration allow these fools to destroy our city, it’s just freeking sad!

Mayor you got to let the dogs loose and get your city under control. I know we’re gonna have random instances of crime but this killing every other day is beyond ridiculous. Same fools committing acts of violence over and over!

I don’t know why I’m even concerned.

All y’all college educated visionaries, need to put your plans in action, before it’s too late to recover!

12:31, Well aren't you clever, with a completely unjustified and personalized comeback.

Anonymous said...

@2:53 PM I can see why a cub reporter would consider it clever. However, you learned something from way before your time in journalism.

Anonymous said...

If the excuse for not arresting criminals is that there is no more jail space, try the former animal shelter that Lumumba did away with! They could put the criminals there! Jackson certainly isn't using it for poor, homeless, pets these days so put it to good use!

If CPD is an actual state LE Agency, just turn them loose in the state.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
