It’s under a receiver right? Federally appointed? Maybe it’s not as easy to run as y’all say.

I’m still surprised we don’t more riots (flash-mobs to the MSM) in places around the Metro. They seem to be a common occurrence EVERYWHERE from Atlanta to Memphis, and all the way to LA and SanFran-sicko.

Send the recent graduates from the welding program and put them to work.

That place is a riot. Anyway, did the riot wake up the deputies?

Another request for funding for a new jail in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

And we find out about it here. That’s real good. We never got a notice. But, we need to keep dumping money into Hinds County. That group of people that are concerned about their loved ones never consider about the loved ones of the victims do they? I was just asking out loud here since one or maybe two of them along with Our Marxist government in Hinds County trolls this site.

For those suggesting that RDC is under the Feds now or receivership, it is not. The County weaseled their way out of that over a year ago. They got the Judge to scale the receivership threat back to a judge's order and the DOJ requirements removed. Then they were able to get the court to agree that the judge did not have the authority to require them to do a majority of the order. Afterwards they all patted themselves on the back for a job well done and RDC went back to being a huge dangerous circus. Having previously worked around RDC for 15 years I can say a new jail is not going to fix a majority of the issues. A majority of the issues are on the human side of the equation and start with person Tyree has over the jails.

The place was a dump before the first prisoner ever stepped foot in it. It is the result of only allowing minority businesses to bid on it. If I remember right the place never passed a final inspection before the prisoners were brought in. I do know the cell doors could be opened with a towel.
How could anyone mess up a building made of cement and metal? Benny should be asked why the place is a dump.
Now there is a demand for a new prison to be built. What makes people think the new prison will be aby better than the old one? The same people will be allowed to bid on it and the same people will inspect it after it is built. Why would anyone think it will be any better?

New jail would be same as old jail, but Socrates et al would be richer.

Benchmark is building the new jail.

Kingfish: Three questions...

1. The current building cannot be retrofitted or upgraded?

2. Where will this new facility be located?

3. Who approved the contract?

Kingfish said...

They've spent millions trying to rehab that jail. A lot of money is also wasted on transporting prisoners back and forth. It should never have been in Raymond in the first place. The jail can't be fixed. Poor design, poor construction. All thanks to Bennie Thompson.

The Board approved it.

The jail should be within walking distance or underground tunnel distance from the courthouse. As someone who has practiced law in actual cities with high crime rates, this is where they were located. Transporting prisoners daily by bus/van is not only a chore, but an extremely expensive one.

And, in downtown Jackson, there are plenty locations near the courthouse that will do just fine.

So, if the board approved the new one and it should never have been in Raymond, where, pray tell, will the new one be (not to mention some sort of warranty on the work).

How about the former MetroCenter Mall location? Then, setup an express tram down Court St. to E. Capital to Robinson, and then it's home sweet home for the evil doers.

KF, my question to your 12:15 comment is, are you in approval of that arrangement or just merely making a statement of fact. As a subcontractor I can honestly say the contractor that you mentioned is questionable. More than you will ever know. Been there…done that and that’s not here say. I experienced it so that’s not slander.

Uhhhh, no Benchmark is not building a new jail. Benchmark may have a relationship with the current Board, but the County has no funding and without audits cannot issue public debt. Thus, no money means nothing for Benchmark to build.

The jail problem needs solution other than the $100mm fantasy jail on the hill in SoJackson. BTW, one must wonder why did the County fire Richard McNeel in 2020 - who could have designed a constitutional facility for $30mm? He was president of the State architectural board and had designed jails. Guess he was not the right flavor for Hinds County.

Now Sheriff Jones states that there was no riot and that the officer was injured when he tripped.

Uh huh.

The Westin is sitting where the jail should have been built almost 30 years ago.

Anonymous said...

@11:48, I found out in 2017 that the Hinds County Board of Supervisors gave the developer of the Westin $9,000,000 of our money. The contractor from Birmingham, B&G was bragging about it. Little did us, the taxpayers know this was occurring. And that money was to pay for Concrete Formwork. Firsthand Knowledge so this isn’t here say. But, you’re correct in saying the jail should have been located where the Westin is. I just thought I would bring that bit of information to the table.

Ummm, 6:43 - there is a new jail being built. Just as many other jails have been built in and around Mississippi, there are other ways than what you suggest to accomplish the goal of having a new jail.

Not defending it, or condemning it - but, Benchmark is building a jail that Benchmark if financing and will own; and has entered into a long term lease with the Couony for them to use it. No difference that if you wanted office space but didn't want to tie up your money, or credit, for your specific needs. You enter into a long-term contract with someone to build your facility. Examples can be seen in the office park complex at the intersection of I55 and Meadowbrook where Kerioth built for Commercial Bank some twenty years ago, along with a couple of law firms. The jail is just being done on a public facility - similar to the private prisons at Marshall and Wilkinson Counties.

5:45, thanks for explaining (This is 6:43). Makes sense and gives a citizen hope that a new jail might get done correctly in the foreseeable future. Also explains the price increase from McNeel’s proposal. No doubt a millage hike when it’s complete but it ought to save money in the long run - or so we were told 30 years ago.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
