The Court is in recess right now so here is a quick update.
The Goon Squad stood before U.S. District Judge Tom Lee in chains as they pleaded guilty to various counts of obstruction, violation of civil rights, and other charges in the torture of two Braxton men on January 24.
The government unsealed bills of information filed against former Rankin deputies Brett McAlpin, Christian Dedmon, Hunter Elward, Daniel Opdyke, Jeffrey Middleton, and former Richland police officer Josh Hartfield.
Most bills of information succinctly state the charges against the defendant. Such is not the case today as the Justice Department wants the world to know what took place that night in Braxton. The bill tells a disgusting tale of torture against two black men that revives nightmares of Mississippi's past. The bill of information is posted below.
However, another surprise took place in the courtroom. The Justice Department unsealed a second case of a similar nature against Dedmon, Elward, and Updike. This bill of information charged them with depriving A.S. of his civil rights under color of law and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
The defendants will be sentenced November 14, 15, and 16.

The Feds got unlimited lawyers & money. These guys are toast!
These are some evil and sick LEO's
They'll enjoy some prison time
One more reason I never visit Rankin county except to get on or off of an airplane.
Remember this next time you see one of the deputies driving a vehicle with “SHERIFF BRYAN BAILEY - IN GOT WE TRUST” what a gaslighting load of bullshit!
Somebody gave these goons the reasonable belief that they could get away with this kind of behavior. This is 2023 not 1960. What the hell is going on?
To hell with every one of you rednecks that said the victims were lying! You should have to be up at the federal courthouse watching the sentencing. The Sheriff and Paul Holley should be up there too in shackles. They knew about this and they covered it up.
12:54 Glad to hear it, because if you're concerned that your behavior could even remotely subject you to the type of treatment alleged by the government against these LEOs, we don't want you here.
This is the tip of the iceberg. No one pleas out at their arraignment unless they agreed to give up some other crooked LEOs for a reduction of their sentences.
Did the sheriff every participate? Who else is in the squad?
Sad day & now taxpayers will pick up the tab when lawsuit is finished. All LEO’s are not bad people. There have been priest, pastors, school person & all walks of life who have good and bad people. Prayers for all families involved in this. Don’t let Satan still your joy!
Wow! I knew that McAlpin was dirty but I had never heard about the other five doing anything like this. Brett McAlpin should be under the jail. He literally threatened to murder other police officers. What the Hell!
DAMN!!!!
When I first read the original post from Kingfish on this story, I thought this is a fantastical story that these black men made up in order to cover up their own drug dealing business and it would quickly be determined that no such thing happened.
It is amazing to me that these LEO's had gotten to this spot where they thought they could do this to someone and get away with it. The Rankin County Sheriff's Department has a severe problem. There is a cancerous rot within the RCSD that has to be excised.
This has got to be cleaned up. Whether its the current sheriff, the state, or the feds, this crap has to be cleaned up immediately.
And, it all started with a white neighbor letting his white neighbor LEO know that 2 black men were staying at an old white lady's house in the neighborhood.
Amazing!
PS - Is the Dedmon here related to the Dedmon convicted by the feds in the slaying of that black man who was run over by those teens from Rankin County a few years ago?
I am distrubed by reading these allegations. Every employee with the Rankin County Sheriff's Office should be embarrassed to work for Sheriff Bryan Bailey. Sheriff Bailey should resign immediately. "Goon Squad"- what a joke.
1:44 According to the information the heinous treatment was not because of the victim's behavior, it was because of their color. So maybe it makes sense for certain people to avoid Rankin County, whatever their behavior.
I am assuming the LEOs being charged were all white? Because they are definitely trash no matter what color they are. People like this getting their bill paid and cashed for being a drag on society makes me so happy.
I assume everyone convicted based on the testimony or evidence discovered by these criminals now gets a review?
Now they will experience some "dualing banjo" music in jail. Paybacks are a bitch. Will Rankin County have to do a bond sale to cover the civil penalties?
Right now there are 100s of emails and text messages being deleted in Rankin County.
Metro Flex Unit. Not so cute anymore is it?
No club fed for these bullies.
Does anyone know if Deputy Dedmon is related to the Deryl Dedmon that ran over the black man on Ellis Avenue with his pickup truck?
Good job, Kingfish.
I don't live in Rankin, but I would have a hard time reflecting the Sheriff. He either knew this was going on or he didn't. If he didn't, why? What other mischief could his deputies be up to? If he did know and didn't etop it, he is just as guilty as there are.
If they are pleading to an information, the Sheriff might want to be worried.
I'm happy this is going to get justice, but some of Yall don't even know what the hell you're talking about.
The entire RCSD needs to be on trial. Every single one is guilty of something. I’d love to see the whole department go down. They need to start over with LEO’s who follow the law. I hope these 2 men get the justice they deserve.
Baby, they ain't got to worry about dildos where they are going. They are going to see the real deal. Man, ain't karma a bitch.......
"Does anyone know if Deputy Dedmon is related to the Deryl Dedmon that ran over the black man on Ellis Avenue with his pickup truck?"
Does it matter in the long run or do you just want to talk about apples falling not that far from the tree?
@1:12pm - You live in Mississippi? It’s still 1960 here.
These men are animals and they should be locked away for good. They forfeited their birthright to be part of a civil society.
Just another example of why to never trust the police.
The suspects deserve at least 50 years apiece for the violent acts they committed on the Victims.
That was a total violation of the Victims Civil Rights.
1:43, It was their choice of attorney that undermined their credibility.
So:
Midlleton carried around a drop gun.
Dedmon just happen to have a bag of meth to plant as evidence.
And they all pled guilty before they could even be arraigned!
Holy shit!! At least they didn't bring the dildo with them to the crime scene.
Now it's time to get out the public checkbook. There's no way to undo any of this, but at least the two victims can be financially compensated. And a through housecleaning MUST follow.
“Guys, we’re gonna need a bigger dildo”
Why do the names Brett McAlpin and Christian Dedmon sound so familiar outside of this case?
Where’s ole CJ “investigator report” been for all of this????? Who’s he been protecting?????
@1:44 Please return to your Klan meeting. Read the bill of information that these Storm Troopers pled GUILTY to. That is, if you can read.
3:20 you should prolly take a gander at those current crime stats before spoutin' off that foolishness
3:01, if they are related, it is relevant, pertinent and definitely news worthy. Two brothers, or cousins, both convicted of hate crimes 11 years apart should be known if true. Because it would be important to know What went wrong in that family. It would also be important to know what Rankin County knew about that. If someone I was interviewing had a brother that had been convicted for running over and killing an innocent black man, I would want to know how he feels about that. I would want to know his racial feelings before I employ him to be a LEO. It would completely impact my decision to hire him. What they did was not okay. You do not have to be a black person to be angry that this happened. When something like this happens, the ripples effect everyone.
sheriff brian baileys mouthpiece is a ''deputy'' named paul holley.
he was standing right next to sheriff bailey when he announced on tv that the deputies had been fired.
bailey continually looked to holley during the tv appearance.
everything bailey says is scripted for him by holley.
there is a reason for that......paul holley is a licensed attorney at law in mississippi.........dont take my word for it...look him up on the ms state bar roster of members.
"Goon Squad"??? More like Thug Squad. The things these guys did are sick and disturbing for anyone, but for a member of law enforcement!?!? I hope they are punished to the maximum!!
Something I have not read or failed to remember if it was covered - what on earth was the impetus for the goon squad to descend upon Jenkins and Parker's home to torture them??
this is yet another example of the feds coming to mississippi and flushing the toilet.
just like they did in neshoba county back in the 1960s with the murder of those 3 freedom riders.
in mississippi....only the faces change.......the mindset never does.

These fools have been watching too much of the TV show Chicago PD. This is why they call it a show you fools! Man this is some sad shigity!
Now you wonder why some of the population look at the Police sideways!
Maybe the FEDs need to look real close at past cases/complaints and drug test the whole Sheriff’s Office including the Sheriff. This just ain’t normal.
You can be charged and convicted for both federal and state charges for an act committed under this federal statute so they may have a trial ahead of them under the state charges. All cops and sheriffs should, as a matter of policy, be spot-searched unannounced regularly for guns and contraband that can be planted. This shit is done often and has been for decades.
Does this serve as a reminder that racism is not truly dead?
Attention Race Hustlers: This case does not validate your bullshit!!
There's another case against these guys, and that victim is white. It's right there in the charging documents.
roll back the clock some years and the beating Tim Johnson took by a now US Marshall that was formally in RCSO will come up. That man was, “promoted,” to the marshalls from rcso after that incident. Mr. Johnson had a complete facial reconstruction.
All around the state other "goon squads" are tossing their "throw-down guns" and drugs in rivers and deleting emails and text messages. They don't need "Jim Crow" laws to act like they are in the Klan.
Paul Holley is a good family man. The only thing he's guilty of is working for Bryan Bailey. Yes, he's an attorney.
Unfortunately he may be Bailey's fall guy.
Dedmon that last name sounds familiar!! Do the research
@4:48
A revolving door of young white females is what brought them there.
It’s also why there was so much sexually charged abuse and humiliation with the dildos.
Will roll into rankin and take care of our boyzs
7:01: Please provide citations/links to back up your claims.
I’ve been a resident of Brandonfor many years. I’ve known one Sheriff and several deputies very well and others casually. Ive never had an incident but have heard a few stories that really disturbed me. Not all involved people of color. I respect the law but when the law goes rogue it has to be brought to light. As bad as this incident was bringing the rancid behavior to light should help clean out the rats.
@3:01PM, while I didn’t ask the original question, I must admit it that it was the absolute first thing that crossed my mind when I read it. Upon reflection, I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s not all that much difference between wanting to know how far an apple fell from a tree and if two people who live in the same county and share the same last name are kin. I did however get momentarily sidetracked by whether the Jackson victim was run over by a Dedmon or a Redmon.
Brett McAlpin has been doing these kinds of things for YEARS. He is also known to rough up female "suspects" on a regular basis. I don't know anything about the rest of them, but I hope they all rot in prison.
McAlpin has been a problem for years. There’s a jail full of stories in Rankin about him and his “Goon Squad.” Drug & Weapon plants were just the least of it all. He was taking the same actions under the previous DA. Thank God Karma came knocking! Absolutely repulsive, but I’m not surprised in the least.
As one Jackson lawyer always said in his TV commercials, "Let's face facts folks..."
If Chokwe's Jackson had decent leadership including a competent, proactive police force, attitudes of suburban LEO forces would not have this mindset bubbling within their departments.
Is this behavior excused or condoned? Hell no! Can it be explained upon deep investigation and thought? Sure.
If Chokwe's Jackson had decent leadership including a competent, proactive police force, attitudes of suburban LEO forces would not have this mindset bubbling within their departments.
So, it's the elected officials in Jackson fault, that 6 Rankin County Sheriff deputies are a bunch of bigots and decided to violate 2 black folks' civil rights!? Talk about cognitive dissonance at its finest!? SMH
ACAB but y'all don't want to hear that. LALALALA
How long will I be waiting for the story to hit DarkhorsePress?
This one?
I'm from Minneapolis..I read the dated AP story re the Goon squad and the jury originally acquitting them. I am so happy I googled and found the update where they are pleading guilty. Derek Chauvin got 20+ years for the murder of George Floyd ...I pray these criminals get the same.
There has been healing in our community and there is still a long ways to go...I hope there is some acknowledgement of wrongdoing from the public officials.
Our community? I doubt you live here as you didn’t even get basic facts right.
There was no acquittal. There was no previous trial. Period. That is complete fiction written by you.
Hartfield has always been a dirty cop and works for richland pd. They do so many illegal things but they turn their cameras off and turn the volume down so it's unclear how their officers are acting. Hartfield is good at making "evidence" to cover up his horrible behavior. Yeah you may have gotten away with the crap you did to others, but not now. Told ya I was innocent but say hey to all those in jail for me. Hope they put you in with the big dogs you've falsely turned in. These actions disgust me and you forced me to take responsibility for something that wasn't mine and threatened me that I'd go down for more if I didn't. These are the terrible officers we deal with who are suppose to serve and protect us. Nah, we need protection from you!!!!
Here is a breakdown of their potential sentences:
U.S. District Judge Tom Lee said the men will be sentenced in mid-November. Dedmon and Elward each face a maximum sentence of 120 years plus life in prison and $2.75 million in fines. Hartfield faces a possible sentence of 80 years and $1.5 million, McAlpin faces 90 years and $1.75 million, Middleton faces 80 years and $1.5 million, and Opdyke could be sentenced to 100 years with a $2 million fine.
Where’s the attempted murder and gang rape charges?
I wonder what percentage of Rankin County arrests are entirely fabricated with planted evidence and lies by the arresting shithead officers? The $400 million lawsuit is just the tip of the iceberg. If every wrongfully arrested person gets $1000, Rankin county will be bankrupt before scratching the surface of the retribution they owe. If you own property in Rankin, get out now.
3:12, Where do you get “gang rape”? This is bad enough without having to make shit up.
This is the tip of the iceberg.
DOJ will talk to all of their on-force friends.
The defendants will offer testimony in exchange for lenient sentencing.
The RCSO is toastn as are their convictions.
What about the murder they worked at the same residence last year? What about the prostitution at the same residence?. What about those dealers disbursing fentanyl and meth to teens and young adults? Have you ever worked dope? Have you ever dealt with an addict in your family? What about the lives they saved? What about the women saved from dope dealers human trafficking. How each of them risked their own lives working dope and protecting us, and as a human, facing fearful - life threatening situations and suffering from that trauma. That will change any person mentally. What about finding dead bodies including children on calls, facing hostage situations, working bad stuff daily. This situation & bashing law enforcement will increase crimes, drug sells and overdoses. I hope your kid isn’t one of them!!!!!!! Because now every law enforcement official is scared to make any move TO SERVE AND PROTECT. And for the Feds to open up a hotline for drug dealer-addicts’ complaints, come on people!!!! WAKE UP!!!!. 400 million dollar demand for settlement, allegation after allegation, Hmmmmm. Media and election time… They wouldn’t be in the position today if people weren’t piece of shit drug addicts - dealers KILLING AND DESTROYING FAMILIES AND FEEDING DRUGS!!!!!!
In response to 7:41: if the two victims were guilty of the stuff alleged, I have no sympathy for them getting threatened and tased and beaten up. Hell, I don’t even have much sympathy for him getting shot in the face, if the rumors are true. But it was still wrong.
A cop putting a gun in someone’s mouth and pulling the trigger? That’s next-level wrong. Plus the fact these guys had a whole system worked out to operate outside the law? That’s next-level wrong.
And even if the two victims were guilty, what about someone getting this treatment who was actually innocent? The laws and rights are there to protect the innocent, as well as the guilty.
As for the cops suffering psychiatric breakdowns from job stress, that’s even more reason they should not be allowed to operate in secret, so that someone in the chain of command could have sounded the alarm.
And I could be wrong, but I’m think their civil claims would be capped at 500K, or maybe the limits of any insurance policy that may apply.
To 7:41…
If, those things…you make prosecution of the alleged. You observe constitutional rights. Otherwise, we are a banana republic and all subject to execution.
