UPDATE (12:55 PM): There is a strong chance ABC is referring to Hinds County as it did not apply for the funds. Jackson obtained $47 million.
ABC News' Rachel Scott reported Jackson did not apply for its share of over $400 million in water infrastructure funds Congress awarded to Mississippi last year. The revelation came on yesterday's edition of ABC's This Week. Check out the story posted below.
Kingfish note: The Mayor is holding his regular press conference this afternoon. He won't be able to resist responding to this ABC story. What convoluted excuse do you think he will offer? Post in comments.

Having to apply for grants is racist
Why does this surprise anyone?
The people who are supposedly in charge of running Jackson literally and seriously couldn't successfully run a snow cone stand.
The State is obligated to hold a "Grant Application Networking Day" for COJ employees and Small Disadvantaged Businesses.
Come on, man. He's playing 4D Chess on y'all. Why apply for 400 Mill in chump change, when you can get 1 BILLION (sounding like Carl Sagan here) dollahs AND file a racism lawsuit, too? Win Win Win.
Try not to let your privilege think that math or paperwork is not showing your oppression.
Jackson needs an App on their phones to pop up and ask, "Do you need to fix the water system again? Click here for free money deposited instantaneously. Bad credit? No credit? No effort? No paperwork? No problem-Water Equity!!"
"The dog ate our application."
Biden will let them in the back door-
I would like one time frame (maybe a couple of hours) to take the gloves off and have the opportunity to make unedited, fully animated comments about this matter on this blog.
There are hundreds of thousands of people that have and continue to be harmed as a result of Jackson politics. Many of us visit this blog regularly and support it but our real thoughts are not allowed to be posted.
How about it KF? Just one evening with no edits.
Kudos to ABC. Being the largest Mississippi city, Jackson could have gotten a healthy share of that $400 million. Or, had they applied and not gotten a fair shake, THEN they could have cried wolf. But they just didn't bother.
That Mayor can say pretty much anything and no matter the evidence to the contrary, his constituents buy his story.
This is all the fault of the colonists-

Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
They are too lazy and incompetent to apply for funding. Don't ya'll realize that some of this stuff requires actual work?
I still expect ABC to blame State government even though on the trailer they caught Lumumba in a flat out lie.

What a complete moron. Guy is an idiot, and that's an insult to idiots.
Can't believe everything you see on tv; or read on a social media blog. Comments, however, are sacrosanct
Personally, I don’t think this is going to play out too well for the city and the mayor. The feds and the state are not going to just hand over funds with out the proper application process taking place. That’s the same thing as you walking into your bank and demanding the manager to just loan you money without filling out an application because you think you deserve it. Tate did the right thing and he IS smarter than the mayor. Tate is Running a State and the mayor is running a rundown city that can’t even perform simple maintenance.
Same excuses Jake Blues gave for missing his wedding in the Blues Brothers.
Once again, the Mayor shows that he is in over his head and has absolutely no clue what he is doing. What's worse, he continues to hire people who have absolutely no clue what they are doing either.
Best strategy he has come up with to date is to ask his base to throw out all of the basic tenants of civics and blame the State for not stepping in to assist Jackson*.
*NOTE: whenever the state does step in, it's racist and colonialism.
10:48 ding ding ding. Why would he apply for a portion of 400 million and start repairs when he could let the situation continue to deteriorate and have a chance at a billion to pass out to pals (plus nationwide attention).
Nice to see the media actually doing its damn job for a change.
I am shocked- shocked I say!
No way did the competent mayor and his staff and sista fail in this endeavor!
I want to thank the Jackson mayor for increasing the value of my Madison city home property. I live in a nice subdivision in Madison where for sale signs rarely stay up a week.
Jackson leadership can't even run a simple glass of water. We're can't, then, expect them to accomplish anything more complex.
I don't think they were talking about Jackson.
@11:05am Ha! KF has likely been threatened with action by Lynn Fitch and other connected firms for allowing the posting of unedited comments... because there really isn't any other explanation as to why he allows some stuff through, and other posts never see the light of day that aren't really that bad.

Partially disguise your questionable comments with creative, even gonzo pseudonyms and metaphors, KF will let them through.
After all, "jackassery" is part of his mission statement.
Billion of grant money have been available to Jackson but there processes and rules that have to be followed. Local match money is also required. Also with granted money there have to be proper records kept to get paid. Finally an audit is required to be able to keep the money. Through out all this there a team of con men that will step in and " help'. Every con man in the country know how to scam Jackson and who to contact.
Could easily be resolved by holding another community meeting at de church.

If you have so much important stuff to say and JJ is stopping you….start you’re own damn blog/ website for you and all of your mistreated cohorts. Of coarse if you did that you couldn’t come on here and claim to be mistreated.
pretty sure i read that the city hired the espy law firm to complete the grat form and paid them around 200K and they missed the deadline.
I agree. I think they have Jackson confused with Hinds county. A more pertinent question is what happened to the matching funds. Jackson got money and then had the chance to match it - at 100%. How much had they spent before using the rest for matching funds? And what did they spend it on?

I'm not claiming to be mistreated. This blog is privately owned and you're right, I certainly can start my own. KF's blog and KF's rules.
My simple request is I would like to see in writing what most people think but won't type out of fear. Just once.
Somebody needs to contact ABC and get ABC to apologize for this report and reassign the reporter. Sheesh. You'd expect better from a national network.
Credit where credit is due, update is correct. Jackson did apply for the funds . Hinds county apparently did not (at least they aren’t on the list of those that received money). Why Hinds County didn’t get funds, who knows. There was a local news article last fall about Hinds paying big bucks to a notable local lawyer/politician/advisor to manage all of their money. Hard to believe Hinds just chose to pass up the opportunity to get water money offered from the state.
Revelation? Hasn't Tate been saying this all along? But, this should be no surprise. A lot of our welfare systems are delivered under the premise that it crushes people's spirit to make them apply, justify why they are entitled to the free stuff, or do anything themselves to obtain the free stuff.

Say again?
National media and Mississippians are clueless as to how their State government has made siphoning federal funds so easy.
You miss the lack of timely notification and the "impossible" hoops to jump built in by different agencies and elected officials. Many are designed to get the money "somewhere else".
It's a game played for the benefit of politicians and those they would "reward" carried out at the expense of our Nation and our citizens in this State.
Your blind loyalty and trust and gullibility is self-destructive.
Those millions to the county could have paid for a lot of high end SUVs, conferences, and palm greasing.
I read the article last night. It was garbage. Nothing new was stated that wasn't stated in the "teaser" video.

There's a big difference between not applying at all, and having your initial application rejected. At least be honest, and state that the city failed to re-apply timely.
National media know nothing about Federal funds and local governments. Miss as a whole does very well and most have very good grant writers they use and trust . This system has been in place for 50 years. Jackson is currently the worst City in the country.
Is it really that Hinds County did not apply? The same Hinds County that payed Mike Espy hundreds of thousands of dollars to help with this application process?
Some of you clods still haven't read the update.
