Shooting on Highland Colony Parkway

A shooting took place on Highland Colony Parkway between Walk – On's and the Natchez Trace Parkway.

Ridgeland police said the shooting occurred between passengers in two vehicles. One man was shot in the arm and transported to the hospital. He was a 30-year-old black male from Canton. A witness said the rear windshield of one vehicle was shot out. JJ will update this post as more information becomes available.

Madison realtor here. Have gotten several calls from motivated individuals wanting to unload premium properties in the wake of this continual degradation of the area (Costco, now Bolt INS, now shooting). Cash buyers could get a steal. Get out now.

Will Highland Colony Parkway become the "new" County Line Road?

Ridgeland just caved to crime. It’s sad to see how quickly it went. And so close to such nice neighborhoods and malls.

6:06 quit trying to use this to line your pockets.

We seriously need the National Guard to come in and take over this war zone so we can live our lives in peace.
Our governor is too busy playing politics and suing other states.
Jackson Mayor is doing, well...NOTHING.
Canton Mayor is trying to figure out if he was elected or not.

Based on live video of the evidence marking of shell casings on the pavement, the shooting took place between the roundabout on Old Agency Road and I-55, not Highland Colony Parkway. Close, but no cigar. Oh, 20+ casings being recovered.

As the perp's vehicle got onto I-55 southbound, he was likely seeking Jackistan's "safe haven" status.

Keep playing mind games, 6:06, while your own City of Jackson continues its long trip down the drain.

I'm not aware of the Natchez Trace intersecting with Highland Colony Parkway, Kingfish. Sorry if I missed the re-design.

Anonymous said...

Ridgeland has successfully moved North Jackson crime north of County Line Road. The new "M" bar location has now been established. Excellent work by Mayor Gene pandering to his cronies. If you want to see police west of I-55 you have to ask for them. Just ask the residents of one subdivision west of this crime scene.

Lookit all them unmarked vehicles, mostly bein' new SUVs. But, all they do is show up with blue lights after 'altercations that might lead to a succummin'. Total waste of money. I likes the red one. Looks like he's comin' from church.

That’s what RPD told me. Take it up with them.

Victim from Canton, but shooter is from Jackistan (from RPD detective).

Anonymous said...

The Natchez Trace passes over Highland Colony but does not intersect it. Just north of walk ons and just south of the roundabout.

Anonymous said...

@6:47 The Trace crosses over Highland Colony just south of the roundabout. Post didn’t say anything about intersecting.

Anonymous said...

That you Geno?

Highland Colony will be the next county line. Look at Renaissance Mall. It’s half vacant.

Looks like the Bridgewater plaintiffs were correct in their worry about the urban growth....and thus the Costco lawsuit. Which they won, but mayor wigglewaggled around it.

Ridgelanders, its time to vote out Mayor McGee as he's sold out for the cash. Next in line is more apartments...thus more crime.

Enough is enough.

There are times of day where I absolutely HATE driving Lakeland Drive. On the other hand, times of bad traffic are easily offset by our having limited connections with that absolute shithole of a city - my hometown - Jackson, MS As long as I've been alive, the "cultural wave" has been spreading north and east, but that bottleneck over the Pearl sure has slowed the progression vs. how fast it's moving north! Hell, Ridgeland and Madison are getting pinched from north AND south!

Anonymous said...

And this is the reason the surrounding neighborhoods opposed Costco. Not so much Costco, but the businesses that come with it. The clientele of walk ons, etc. They can now say “I told you so”, and they will be correct.

Anonymous said...

Fightin over the last two damn wings on the platter and whether or not Henry Ruggs III should be put in jail. Good arguments, but should’ve brought loaded the dummy rounds. Jacktownian or Alec Baldwin shall roam again.

The Natchez Trace crosses over (intersects) Highland Colony, between roundabout and Costco.

Wow, Madison county is so dangerous now! Where can we move to get away from all of this? It is PAST TIME for the Ridgeland and Madison to start pulling over EVERYONE with Hinds county plates and asking why they are in Madison County.

On Highland Colony Parkway between Old Agency Parkway and just south of the traffic circle you pass under a concrete rainbow... that is the Natchez Trace overpass. The two roads intersect (cross or pass over) but no intersection (common point at an intersect).
Forget about the shooting, let's save the English language.
For everyone else get a bigger stick or a faster car.

I'm one of 49 siblings and we are all real estate brokers in every state but Mississippi. The youngest of our family is 77 and has been in the real estate game for 78 years. I did a survey. Not a single one of us has ever received a call from anyone in our respective states who asked us about buying a home in Mississippi.

My sister in Pennsylvania did receive a call from someone who was willing to trade what he said was "a mansion" for the phone number of a "shurnuf real Philadelphia lawyer," something about a problem with the law and timber, but other than that, apparently Mississippi just isn't a destination state. Can't imagine why.

From reading JJ, it sounds like there are probably at least a couple of cities that would be much more in-demand and desirable than a zero-lot-line almost-stucco McMansion in Somalia. For example, Tuscaloosa and Chattanooga sound like they have some really beautiful, safe areas. Tuscaloosa - that's where Old Mississippi is located, right?

@8:15 pm, look around, Jackson has already moved east on Lakeland Dr. I was considering moving from Hinds Co. and as I was driving through neighborhoods I quickly realized I was too late. Jacksonians have already moved in. Now I am looking towards Pisgah and further southeast in Rankin Co.

We all know the headline is wrong and we all know where the Trace and Roundabout (not mentioned) and Highland Colony are. For the sake of clarity, maybe it should just be said that the shooting took place about 3.8 miles northwest of the Valero at School Street and 51.

"Shooting on Highland Colony Parkway"
"A shooting took place on Highland Colony Parkway between Walk – On's and the Natchez Trace Parkway."

Nothing about these two headline sentences is accurate in any respect. Period.

How about: "Jackson thugs fire multiple rounds at Canton resident leaving Old Agency, exiting onto 55 east of the Roundabout"....

Anonymous said...

Talk to some of the store owners at Renaissance. Jackson residents coming over and committing petty shoplifting or trying to walk out on their tab is a daily occurrence. It’s starting to occur in Madison too, by the same demographic of course. The only solution is to build a wall around Jackson and shoot all who try to cross.

Anonymous said...

Ignoring poverty, educational opportunities, and apathy have led us to what we now have. When your only hope of a commercially viable life is a gang, things like this happen. It’s not just Jackson. Homeless or steal/sell drugs and have a roof?

So affordable housing is essential- how else can a Walk-Ons fry cook live near the restaurant? Where do you think the workers of retail/fast food live? Gated communities? Nah- they live in the bad part of town and tell their friends how busy WalkOns is and so gang member friends case the joint.

Best to lock and load. Even in Madison County.

Anonymous said...

@655 pm-you are right. I’ve never seen so many unmarked SUVs and F150 pickups. I was in the area and it looked like a kicked yellow jacket nest..instead of complaining I’m happy that we have so many cops unmarked around to ward off the Jackson buggers . Maybe if the truck thieves in Jackson saw all of those unmarked vehicles they would think twice about coming to Madison County.I live within a mile of the roundabout and really like the quality development in the area and appreciate the leadership of Mayor Magee and the aldermen.

@4:19am - It was bound to happen. Mississippi is too unsophisticated to support a PF Changs.

Anonymous said...

Attn 4 19 P F Chang’s closed because their food was no good.

just the facts said...

4:19 Before making such sweeping statements do a little research. PF Changs has closed stores in several locations around the country - Ridgeland is not the first - and based on the my last visit a few months before closing, it was warranted - food quality was very poor.

The little Emperor With No Clothes, to Magee's South, should be schooled, but can't because he plays New Africa, Most Radical City, begging for federal bailouts, micromanaging triple sized crayola trash cans, subverting bidding process and corrupting best practices.

Anonymous said...

That’s it I’ve had enough. I’m moving to Enid, MS where they know how to run a real city.

Anonymous said...

@7:53 - PF Changs sucks

Anonymous said...

Hopefully Walk Ons is required to post several cops in their parking lot at all times like the m club on county line was and maybe add metal detectors at the door. The mayor never should have approved a bar that close to residential areas. This is on Gene.

Anonymous said...

P.F. Chang's closed because the food was completely unreliable and people stopped going there. Blame that on lazy employees. Quite often the food tasted burned. Pretty sure the useless cooks were not cleaning the woks very often.

Anonymous said...

ENUFF ALREADY! I can't believe so many people raving as if that part of Madison County has become a ghetto cesspool. Get a grip! It wasn't in a residential neighborhood or a commercial business. It was on the highway.
A highway. Did you think these thugs were always on foot? They have cars too. It's inevitable that they will occasionally cross city or county lines as they conduct their running gun battles. Get a grip.

Anonymous said...

The first time I went to PF Change the food was fair; the second time it was the usual overcooked, salty, greasy mush every other Chinese restaurant in the area serves--all at Renaisaance prices rather than "hood" prices. THERE WAS NO THIRD VISIT AND WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN HAD THEY STAYED OPEN.

Anonymous said...

@7:29am & 8:51am - Thanks for stopping by Mayor.

Anonymous said...

Reasons "Jackson bad, muv frum Jackson" don't work. The crime spills out, you can't just run from it we have to deal with the shit storm that is Jackson. I realize this is Canton related but same logic follows. We can't run from the issues we need to hit them head on, move people into the areas & vote out corruption

Anonymous said...

Only here can a discussion morph from gun play to PF Changs. Focus people.

Anonymous said...

@9:32

Somewhat sensible, but the ones already there have to also want change. Too many in Jackson are basically nihilists, because they have never had anything and struggle to get anything. So they resort to this third world existence for survival. The cycle needs to be broken, and it has to happen one household at a time. Some will be lost, but eventually it can be turned. We all have to be willing to try though.

Costco, Sam's Club, and the rest of the shops in the Renaissance area are a huge draw for Jacksonians, because there's nothing like it left in the city limits. Can't blame the mayor for wanting to increase the sales tax revenue, but part of it must go to increased policing to go with it. Otherwise, yes -- you have another potential County Line scenario.

Rise again said...

The recent crime in Ridgeland is such a pity. There used to be such nice neighborhoods like Bridgewater and Greenwood Plantation (I am not a racist despite typing the word “plantation”). I wonder if Costco brought on the early demise. What can be done to change this? At least the nearby mall is holding up

Anonymous said...

@11:35 AM - no, but you are a "woke" tool of the left.

Anonymous said...

OLIVE GARDEN SALAD IS DELICIOUS!!!! Ridgeland will be fine. We have GREAT leadership here. Unlike Jackson, we elect competent people.

Anonymous said...

Too bad the city just spent $16 million on the new city hall. Seems the mayors office and Cadillac Escalade was more important than the residents’ safety.

Anonymous said...

How competent will your leaders be as your population changes over the years? It happened to Jackson. Ridgeland and adjacent communities are next. In 15 years, we will be saying the same about Ridgeland, Clinton, and possibly Brandon.

Anonymous said...

It was not random but revenge

Anonymous said...

Ridgelands sole purpose is to be a buffer from Jackson for Madison. The population is majority renters. Once you have a candidate that caters to that demographic ridgeland is toast.

Anonymous said...

@ 12:13 PM -- I disagree. 30 years ago, Clinton was a nice bedroom community and it still is. Meanwhile, West Jackson was a ghetto then and it still is. Both are in Hinds County, so what's the difference? City Management.

Seems to be a popular stretch for interstate shootouts, the second one this year?

Bovine Scatology said...

@12:23 PM You are full of poop like a Thanksgiving goose. Ridgeland is not majority renters. BS flag!!!

Anonymous said...

I suppose if these thugs had driven the full circuit from Jackson to Tupelo
shooting along the way it would be time to run up the white flag and abandon ALL of central Mississippi. Get serious. It was still an isolated incident that happened on the highway. Ridgeland and Madison are NOT war zones.

Kingfish said...

Um, Ridgeland was 54% renters in 2010 census

Anonymous said...

I moved to Ridgeland from Jackson 16 years ago, after being victimized by burglars twice. The area was nice, peaceful, clean, and there was high police visibility. I felt safe. However, over the past few years, there have been negative changes. Liter is everywhere, and County Line Road is looking more and more like Highway 80. Many people moving from Jackson to escape crime are renters, and have brought their Jackson behavior and friends with them. Rather than leadership being proactive in an effort to stem the evolving decay, e.g increased police patrols, crack downs on litterers, residential code enforcement in neighborhoods without covenants, strategic commercial zoning, the response appears to be to allow more businesses that are likely to cater to an undesirable element; cede to the negative forces, and keep moving north, with the goal of increasing the tax base. Criminals have cars (sometimes stolen ones) and they follow the money. Jackson crime is spilling over! Ridgeland, Madison, Gluckstadt ...in the words of Barbie Five ---"Nip it, nip it"!

For whatever it’s worth, contrary to one of the above posts, It was Greenwood Plantation (actually a few residents of GP), not Bridgewater, who opposed Costco. As for crime, Bridgewater and Greenwood Plantation remain free of any serious crime. Gates help, as do watchful neighbors and RPD. I used to believe Madison and Ridgeland police were a little heavy-handed, but given what is going on crime-wise in Northeast Jackson and Belhaven where I grew up and the fact that it will spread north unless checked, I appreciate what our police do. They put their lives on the line regularly to keep the thugs from taking hold in Ridgeland and Madison. I love that the response to the shooting near Highland Colony yesterday was a show of strength by the police. We also have vigilant judges, like Circuit Judge Arthur, who seem determined to deal forcefully with those who would bring crime to our area. We will be ok. Jackson will be fine too if it will elect leaders who ditch racial ideology and begin solving problems. There are blacks and whites of good will who do not support the Jackson mayor’s failed policies. Given Jackson’s racial demography, it needs a strong, conservative black mayor who can transcend petty racial grievance and work to solve problems.

Anonymous said...

Regarding all the comments about renters... it's very true that they, or more specifically their children, frequently destroy the houses they rent, and the neighborhood follows. Apartment buildings become filled with gang members. Renting is not the problem, it's the landlords. There are good reasons to rent: young singles, young professionals needed in the city for their skills such as medicine but who haven't yet decided to stay in Mississippi, and elderly retired who can't maintain their houses and yards any longer, just to name three. If property owners refused to rent to HUD/Section 8 tenants OR screened applicants very carefully and kicked them out when they break the rules, there would not be such a problem. But they tend to be greedy and will rent to anyone rather than let an apartment sit for a month until a good tenant shows up. I wish there was an organization of people who would ban together and attract civilized people to move to these dying cities. I am truly sorry that gentrification pushes poor people out of their neighborhoods, but what is the alternative? They're trapped inside their houses as we speak, being shot by stray or targeted bullets.

Are you writing from anywhere on this continent? Are you writing from anywhere in this HEMISPHERE? You are obviously not familiar with Mississippi. Are you an investor on the other side of the globe, who thinks his "progressive management style" is going to transform apartment complexes he's bought at distressed prices? If so, then welcome to Waterloo, little Napoleon!

Gentrification? There is no gentrification happening in or near Jackson. And, if there were any "gentrification" pushing "poor people" out of their homes, they could just move from one near-empty neighborhood to another.

In fact, I have to wonder whether you actually know what 'Gentrification' means.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
