Jackson Public Works Director Leaves

Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba issued the following statement.

After a brief period on medical leave, we are sad to see our good friend and Public Works Director, Bob Miller and his wife move back to Kentucky. We are grateful for his service and dedication to the City of Jackson and we are both supportive and prayerful concerning the next chapter in their lives. We are thankful for his leadership. As an administration, we have worked to establish continuity throughout the department over the last few years. And so, we are pleased to announce that City Engineer, Dr. Charles Williams will serve as Interim Public Works Director. We have every confidence in Dr. Williams’ ability to lead our public works department in the right direction going forward until a decision has been made on Mr. Miller’s permanent replacement.”

Kingfish note: Uh-huh. Mr. Miller has been trying to leave for some time but the Mayor begged him to stay, hence the leave.  Something about an EPA deadline.

This man obviously had the most frustrating job on the planet-

Doodie!!

Wow the charlatans at shitty hall ran off the only competent official they had. I'm sure racial hostility had nothing to do with his resignation. Well they can now resume flinging feces at whatever other pinkish targets that they consider "disrespectful" of Neo-Kush.

Sorry to see Mr. Miller go but Jackson will be in good hands with his deputy.

The mayor has a city with bad plumbing, bad streets and bad government. Lamumba and prior administrations have farmed out public works to the point where Miller had no employees to DO the actual work.

Immediate Press Release: The City of Jackson is currently soliciting applications for the exciting and rewarding job of fixing the city's water, sewer, and infrastructure problems. Current city employee family members are encouraged to apply. The line is forming now -- please do not crowd the door and be sure to maintain 6' spacing.

This is what happens when you've been drinking that democrat koolaid too long. He probably took the job thinking, "how bad could it be?" and assured himself that it couldn't be worse than Cincinnati.

Well he got himself a pill that was too hard to swallow. I've known many a yankee who came down here with dreams of changing Mississippi for the better. And Mississippi sent then back home disillusioned and full of self doubt. Many had never uttered a racial slur in their life before they came here.

Do you mean the man responsible for dumping raw sewage in the Pearl River is leaving?

Anonymous said...

I've met him once socially, and I've met him twice professionally. Seemed like a competent individual. But to only make $130,000 to be public works director of Jackson would have to be the worst job in Mississippi.

Ahh shyt! The carousel continues!

Let's see - I have a choice of living in Jackson, MS or anywhere in Kentucky. Not even close.

Anonymous said...

So, what is this civil engineer a doctorate of?

Anonymous said...

Bob is gentlemen and a scholar. He has the innate ability to cut through the red tape and actually get work done, so he will be missed. It can be said of Bob that he left Jackson a better place than when he got here, and that's saying something. Enjoy retirement.

Who freaking cares about the water boil issues? That is a minor inconvenience.

Trees growing in potholes? Quit your bellyaching.

On pace for a record murder rate? That is the price of sustained growth.

The city council approved the moving of the Andrew Jackson statute. Now that is real progress to propel Jackson to heights we could not imagine!

10:53 Does not matter. With most of these observers he has one strike against him already. Guess what it is.

Anonymous said...

Miller gave a damn but quickly figured out Mayor Gumflapper does not.

Anonymous said...

Hey 10:53, why don't you spend as much time on research as you do on your inane questions? I bet you're one of the same guys on this thread who keeps calling Jackson employees lazy.

He is just the wrong color to get anything done, and doing the "black face" thing is no longer PC.

He certainly took the high road by saying nice-nice about Baby Chok. That must have been challenging.

Anonymous said...

"on medical leave" - yes, while true another one of Baby Chock's slight of hand moves.

Bob Miller has been 'on medical leave' only because Chock wouldn't accept his resignation months ago.

Glad to know that he is no longer needing 'medical attention' or sick.

Chock couldn't have him leave but didn't want him to stay.

Good luck Jackson - no hope for getting your infrastructure fixed now.

Miller immediately knew he made a career misstep the moment he arrived in Jackson.

It’s a shame they don’t have basic plumbing in Eversburg.

10:53. Williams is not a graduate engineer.....

Charles Williams is a keeper and I hope he doesn't leave.

For those Jacksonians in denial, sell now and take a small loss, or abandon your home down the road - your choice.

Otherwise you will become...The Omega Man.

"Medical leave"? LOL! Yeah, I'm sure Miller was sick...sick of Jackson and sick of this Mayor and his merry band of racist radicals. I don't know Dr. Williams but sounds like he is very qualified to replace Miller. I wish him the best. I'm sure it helps for this administration that he, as my former black neighbor once put it, has the right color for the connection.

We have a Public Works Director?

Federal bailout to clean up whiteys mess in Jackson

You read that right

White people fled the scene and handed a bag a shit to the ppl who stayed

Quit blaming anybody but past mayors

And for the record....Madison is a boring shit hole With a drama queen mayor and a board of stooges

Anonymous said...

It was well known inside circles that Mr. Miller wasn't going to last more than a couple of years. He privately made that clear in accepting the job but the Mayor thought he could change his mind. As for Dr. Williams, he is very qualified and well respected across all spectrums. I would hope that he would think long and hard about accepting the job on a full-time appointment as the City burns through PW directors and Charles has been a loyal employee to the city for most of his career...and good guys like him don't deserve that kind of "set up to fail" scenario.

Yep, take the loss on you house but get out, now. This is if you can. No one in their right mind would buy in Jackson. There is no hope.

3:02PM. All it takes is one drive through Jackson to tell what a shit hole it is. Now take a look at the old newspaper clippings of what Jackson once was.
Streets were repaired, yards clean, houses kept in good repair, businesses busy and happy people.
If you cannot see the difference it is because you are not looking.
People began to leave Jackson when the leaders of Jackson changed. Those who could sell got the hell out. Some waited too long and can not give their houses away.

You can call it white flight. We see it more like the good people leaving when the thugs made living in Jackson impossible. I once lived in Jackson. Nice little house in a good neighborhood. Now the neighborhood looks like ghetto, hell it is a ghetto. Houses have 8ft chain link fences around them to slow the thieves down. Yards full of trash and junk cars, holes big enough to stop a fire truck in the streets. Just nasty.

Please stay in Jackson. From the sounds of it you enjoy living in the shit hole. Me, I like living in a safe neighborhood, walking on streets where is is still safe to walk, No yards full of junk.

@3:02 PM - we in Madison are blessed that you don't live here.

If being "boring" means not having any of these:

-Drive-by shootings of babies
-Shootings in the streets
-Domestic violence involving firearms
-Armed car-jackings
-Babies having babies

Yep, we are boring.

Dr. Williams worked his way through college doing what? He was the head bouncer at the Dock. Quiet, intellectual, and knows how to work. He would absolutely be the best Mayor Jackson could possibly have one day. I’m a Republican voting white male, by the way. Chocky may not have figured it out, but is one of the good guys. He could do a lot for Jackson before its all over.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it a violation of HIPPA regulations to disclose publicly that one is on medical leave?

Anonymous said...

They didn’t want the EPA to know that Miller was leaving. In fact, while on “sick leave”, he posted a photo of him and his wife at the Vicksburg Military Park!

Anonymous said...

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it a violation of HIPPA regulations to disclose publicly that one is on medical leave?"

No, it is not. Had the employer released medical information as to the nature of a medical condition, it could have been a violation of HIPAA (correctly typed).

Anonymous said...

What's wrong with visiting a National Military Park ?

Oops, that's real history on display.

Charles is a decent guy. I remember one time he wanted me to move my stormwater detention area to the other side of the property on my plans. I said “Charles, that’s the high side of the property.” He’s come a long way since then. He’s pretty likable, and seems to give effort in his job. Jackson should hold on to him. He’s no star, but he’s the best thing in the public works department. Good Lord I remember the days of Chan Burns working for Jackson. Dan Gaillet was okay. David Willis was below average. Charles deserves a shot probably.

Anonymous said...

Only medical providers are covered by HIPAA. A city government is not a medical provider.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like you had a lot of issues if you knew all these folks by name. There was a reason Charles asked you to move the retention pond. I’d say Charles’ IQ is higher than yours. Especially if you’re just now building something in Jackson.

Anonymous said...

@10:18. That was soon after he started there. I’m an engineer, not a developer. Learn that water flows downhill, not uphill, when it rains. On a drawing, you look at the contour lines and you can see which way your drainage will go. You can even map out your drainage areas easily. Now go back to sleep.

@3:02 -- in the past 30 years, the population of Jackson has smoothly and gradually dropped 35,000 residents. That is hardly an indication that one day someone just shut off the lights and left the building. In the meantime, the leadership of the city -- while elected based on promises of not only effective city management but also of growth -- have done nothing of the sort. So, who is responsible for the decline and decay -- those that left or those who stayed?

Anonymous said...

Point of inquiry: Is shithole one or two words, or is it hyphenated?

Anonymous said...

@10:20AM

"So, who is responsible for the decline and decay -- those that left or those who stayed?"

All of the above are responsible. Jackson's infrastructure issues were becoming a pronounced issue in the late 70's and early 80's. The can was kicked down the road. White flight inevitably happened and exacerbated the situation, then poor leadership only compounded the situation into what we have today. Now there is black flight as well in Jackson (see growth in Byram and Terry, along with increasing black populations in Madison and Rankin counties).

Competent leadership and gentrification are the only things that will save Jackson, along with a possible federal bailout. Leaders within Jackson are inept (city and state), and those outside of Jackson don't care anything about the city any more.

Anonymous said...

@12:21 understands it. This problem has been going on for years. It's not one mayor to blame. A federal bailout is their only hope, and they will squander or steal 90% of the bailout money. The leadership is so terrible. But the citizens want and desire that type of leadership. They love Kenneth Stokes and elect him in large numbers. They should be running him out of the city. The residents DON'T WANT THE PROBLEM FIXED!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
