The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 1,251 new cases of
the Wuhan virus yesterday as well as 3 new deaths. The total number
of cases is 40,829. The virus has caused 1,358 deaths. Nursing home
deaths comprise 48% of overall Covid-19 deaths in Mississippi. There are 30,315 recoveries. More information and a complete list of infected
counties can be found at the MSDH website. The Rt factor is 1.11.
The big chart continues to set new records in macabre fashion. There are 908 hospitalizations, 200 more than there were just ten days ago. There are 284 patients in ICUs and 143 patients on vents.
The Rt value continues to fluctuate while remaining above 1.0.
Here are some more stats.

Tate: When are you going to realize that the virus does not respect county lines and extend the requirement to all 82 Counties. If you are hesitant to please Trump forget it. Trump has only another 3 plus months before becoming a lame duck.
We've had a 20% increase in hospitalizations and a 36% increase in ICU usage in one week. Go ahead and tell me how this is a hoax and is no worse than the flu. Time for Tate to step up to the plate.
I really am surprised that kingfish allows comments like 12:52. It’s almost as if you welcome trolls.
12:52 PM He's one of the protestor in Portland, Oregon.
Kentucky had a record number of cases on Sunday and they have a liberal Governor who shut the state down weeks ago. California just announced no high school sports in the Fall. But the liberal smarty pants keep telling us what great jobs the lib gubners are doing. Try a new narrative.
@12:52 It's hard for me to think this is genuine. If this really is your attitude, I can only be happy for you that you apparently don't know anyone who has succumbed to this. Then again if you are so callous with the lives of others that you can't endure minor inconveniences, maybe the loss of a parent or grandparent wouldn't bother you either.
It is not a hoax but it is no worse than the Flu. LTC and elderly as well as those being treated cautiously are being admitted out of an overabundance of caution. Just relax darling, it will get better.
About Trolls, I though that was part of Jackassery.
98.5% recovery rate for under 50?
Proud troll here....let freedom ring. People get sick, so try not to get sick, and carry on.
1:24pm, are you new here?
There are two choices. Maintain the status quo and watch several thousand people die unnecessarily or take firm action now and watch, maybe, only several hundred people die unnecessarily. There is no longer a choice that doesn't involve unnecessary death. That's blood on the hands of every dithering official in the federal and state governments, and it's on Tate's hands for not putting people above politics from day one.
1:55: Recently shown that most super spreaders are under age 41,and asymptomatic. It is the young who spread it to the old. You better hope all ages are wearing masks before you encounter a super spreader.
1:54 Even in a bad year the flu results in about 60,000 deaths. COVID is going to triple that figure in just six months and will keep going until a vaccine is delivered or until we have a million deaths.
COVID is much worse than the flu.
I still don't understand why the terrified sheeple can't just cower inside their own homes while the rest of us with the courage to live go about our daily lives?
Why do they have to always force their alternative lifestyles on us? Just stay at home and watch CNN/MSNBC all day and leave us alone.
@1:50, this is America, we are adults and we aren’t responsible for your well being, YOU are.
Put me in the column of those (growing numbers) who think Kingfish needs to tank this daily Covid shit. Regardless of whether you or I think it's legit or hype, this daily bullshit does nothing but attract more bullshit comments pro and con. But, I guess it blows skirts up, which is the objective.
Another person who has not worn a mask and does not plan on wearing one in the future. If you do not like to see people without masks stay at home.
I have a life and plan on living it. You don't have a life and should stay at home even if we did not have the virus to worry about.
This blog has become not unlike looking at a community bulletin board somewhere in Oregon (or Aspen) with all sorts of nuts thumb-tacking their daily-dolt BS to the wall and chugging MD 20-20. And hoping mom has prepared some lentils for when they get home.
@2:01 Do you need the government to tell you when to go to the bathroom too? It is easy- if you are concerned then stay at home. I am limiting my time in public and taking precautions when I do- ie wash my hands, stay 6 feet from others (anticipate the moves of other shoppers and let them clear the path before proceeding), etc. I don't think the mask does much but I am even wearing one in case it helps some.
I just don't get this mindset that it is up to the government to protect you and fix your problems. It is called self determination and personal responsibility. If you are waiting on government to solve your personal problems, your problems will never be solved.
Governor Reeves is only exacerbating public confusion about this pandemic.
He extends and then adds ten new counties to his "mask " mandate.
But within his same breath, he says the (virus) is in ALL areas of the State.
???
Come on Guv, if it's in all areas . . . issue the same "mandate" for all 82 Counties.
This has the perception of "playing" politics with certain counties.
I doubt his excellency the Gub'ner will read this, but I'm quite sure one of his staff will read this comment.
For the fake news crowd, what is your theory on why the icu beds are full? Is the liberal media paying actors to pretend to be sick and also paying the doctors, nurses, and administrators in every hospital in the nation to fake the numbers? How many people do you think are in on the scam? 100 million?
234pm People like you aren't smart enough to understand that is not how America works, so Walmart has to make these decisions for you. Every time you drive a car you have a standard of responsibility for other drivers and pedestrians. Deep down, you know that is true because you really want everyone to follow the laws of the road to keep you safe while driving. See, you have to have everyone following the rules to keep everyone safe, even in America. If you can't follow the laws of the road the YOU are the one who should not be driving. Likewise if you can't follow health guidelines during a pandemic then YOU shouldn't be allowed in places where these guidelines are in force.
Good news today on the Oxford vaccine. It is effective both in generating antibodies and T-cell response. No severe side effects in any of the test subjects either. We'll see if it actually protects against infection during the phase 3 trials, but here's hoping that turns out well and we'll see emergency authorization granted by sometime in October.
The Chinese vaccine isn't doing so well though. It is based on an existing virus that apparently a lot of people already have immunity to and isn't generating the desired response.
Live Free or Die
" He's one of the protestors in Portland, Oregon."
Nope 1:30 PM.
I haven't seen any protesters in quite a while.
This bunch of idiots are nothing but thug anarchists.
Nothing more, nothing less.
This report reflects some good news. Hospitalizations and deaths are down.
Remember sheeple, the next phase of the PLANDEMIC is for you to willingly take their unnecessary vaccine.
The Alabama Republican governor issued a state-wide mandate for requiring face masks to be worn. Since Trump won't get reelected (and I've always voted Republican in presidential elections since 1972 - yep, Nixon), there is no need to continue playing politics with Mississippians just to stay in good graces with the Donald. Come on, Tate, issue that state-wide mandate.
When I am shown proof that masks are effective at transmission and/or prevention, I'll mask up. Til then, pardon my cough.
Here's a prediction based on the current infection rate and public response to mask and distancing protocols: at least 250,000-500,000 infections in Mississippi with 4000-7500 dead and 10,000-plus with significant long-term effects before the COVID-19 pandemic is under control. There will also be a significant number of deaths resulting solely from the inability of the medical profession to deal effectively with the number of cases. Even if Mississippi (and the rest of the US and world) had infinite hospital and even ICU beds, as well as infinite equipment and supplies, we have a very finite number of doctors and nurses. Some very, very unpleasant triage decisions are looming.
Every single person in Mississippi will have at least an indirect first-degree connection to someone who has died, i.e., it may not be someone with whom you have a close personal relationship, but a co-worker, a teacher or coach at a school your kids attend, a close family connection of a friend, etc.
An aside about starting school. There is incoming data from children's summer camps and the like that indicate that while kids 10 and under don't transmit it as readily as those 11-18, it is not a null for any age cohort of children. See several news stories on the trend and data at the Washington Post, etc., as well as numerous studies now hitting pre-pub distribution. Considering that in many summer camp situations, the kids and staff are largely isolated at the camp, school opening and the vast number of daily interactions with a vast number of people will almost certainly result in a significant transmission increase. See the fist paragraph.
A bunch of folks sounding very frightened on here. You all need to relax and stay in if you wish and/or go out if you wish. Nothing will change. The Sun will rise, then go back down over and over again. Not a soul has control over death and face mask, 6 feet apart or washing hands will stop death. Just get over it and enjoy life best you can, and also, support your local Psychiatrist/Psychologist when you can get to him/her. Sure they will appreciate it. Maybe they will brush up on grammar and spelling while they wait.
All these “if you don’t like me not wearing a mask, stay at home” and “what about personal responsibility” comments miss the point totally. These are precautions you take to keep OTHER PEOPLE safe from YOU. You can’t “personal responsibility” your way out of someone else’s decision to put you at risk. You might as well say “if you don’t like me driving drunk, stay at home.” Of course, plenty of the same people probably do think that way so I guess I’m barking up the wrong tree.
8:30 "All these “if you don’t like me not wearing a mask, stay at home” and “what about personal responsibility” comments miss the point totally. These are precautions you take to keep OTHER PEOPLE safe from YOU."
Public hunting lands are available to all people but it would be foolish of you to go out without orange clothing and go into those woods predawn then expect OTHER PEOPLE to watch out for you. Don't you think you need to use YOUR OWN personal common sense to protect yourself?
I'm totally dismayed at the sheer number of Mississippians who obviously have no understanding of how contagious diseases work. They must have been sleeping during 8th grade science class. There is no such thing as individual risk/responsibility. The virus can spread readily between people even if the sick one shows no symptoms.
"Stay home if you're concerned" is a complete cop-out. The only way to protect the health and safety of society is for everyone to do their part to minimize transmission. Doing simple things like wearing a mask, maintaining a safe distance, and avoiding unnecessary public outings can keep it from spreading like wildfire.
I hope they're happy in another month when things have to start closing back down, and make no mistake, the governor won't have a choice.
So...after subtracting the deaths and the recovered, 8556 Mississippians haven't recovered.
Let that sink in.
5:35 You're going to be very, very disappointed at today's update if you think the numbers are going anywhere but upward like a rocket.
Scientific Facts:
As mask usage has increased exponentially, infections have increased exponentially.
look at the current trends.
rural counties are now starting to get it...lack of hospitals
hope we have enough coffins for all of it..
11:52 I don't suppose it could have anything to do with the number of people going out unmasked in large groups like there isn't a pandemic going on, could it? I think if you look at the data you will see increased mobility has more to do with the epidemic spread.
6:42 A million deaths..? You're delusional. I wish I knew who you were cause I'd take that bet any day, but then I'd feel bad taking advantage of the mentally deficient.
There are a couple of local hospitals that have cut staff in the recent past, even ICU staffing, leaving ICU beds open yet unstaffed but being reported to the state as completely full.
