Give Madison and Rankin another week. The kids just got back from the beach. Just wait.

Still pushin' that false-death-narrative. We'll have some soon enough. Not to worry.

Revelation 6:8 King James Version (KJV)

And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

Everyone calm down. This is in line with everything else in the world thats going to kill you. Show compassion when it's due, toughen you when you need to, and keep moving forward.

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.” - Frank Herbert, Dune

That Southern food and moonshine is killing off the virus.

it’s grossly implausible, for instance, that there are no cases in Vicksburg

its not the end of the world, but we need to keep the health system from being overloaded or there will be a lot of death when hospitals cant treat people. better to take short-term losses and sacrifices than having people die (especially elderly like in italy) due to not having enough ventilators.

KF, the percentage of positives vs the number tested is rising. And sadly, only 1492 have been tested.

10:33 am I am calm as I am following protocols to protect myself and others.

I cannot , however, seem to avoid those who deliver food to my house or trunk of my car to respect the 6 feet in distance.

I gave up on elderly hour at the grocery because one of the shoppers seemed afraid someone would get something she wanted first and didn't respect the distance.

I'm not hoarding but I was appalled at what was in carts leaving Kroger pick up.

I know I will die of something, most likely in the next decade or two . I have never thought myself immortal. I do not, however, want to die unnecessarily and risk taking my husband with me because of someone else's irresponsible behavior.

You don't seem to understand the problem is the over stressing of the medical system so that it won't be just the virus that ends up killing others or shortening their lives. Do you not understand what it means for those who need surgery for ordinary but serious things that their doctors and nurses not having the masks they need to protect their patients from bacteria? How about the women having babies and their babies at hospitals that have shortages and are full of virus patients?

Please stop spreading your callous attitude.

Uhhhh is no media outlet going to mention Mississippi has less new cases today than the previous two days.

MSDH going to quit county by county reporting. Should be giving us details by town and business/nursing home/hospital/etc. so we can made wise choices. Welcome t the dark ages in more than one way.

It is just as unlikely there are no cases in Meridian. Maybe they aren't testing as often as others. I talked to a nurse the other day and she told me they had sent off a number of tests and all had come back negative.

Better Than Ever said...

@11:12 And the entire area around Meridian... Lauderdale, Kemper, Newton, etc???

Agreed. Improbable.

While the numbers are still going up, maybe we are seeing the first signs of flattening. Going from 207 to 249 isn’t as dramatic an increase as we were seeing. Let’s see what happens over the next few days, and maybe we will be seek g a slowing trend. Still there is a long way to go.

It's probably because people aren't getting tested. Makes sense. 85 to 95% of the people that get it only have mild symptoms not requiring any medical attention.

@11:40 One day does not make a trend. Likely that sick people tried to tough it out over the weekend. They will be lined up for testing today. I fully expect numbers to spike soon as weekend people get tested, spring break people spread it, mardi gras, etc. Watch out for point of sale terminals and gas pump keypads/handles.

I wouldn't put a lot of stock in the number of new cases dropping from 67 yesterday to 42 today. The new cases would be the ones that were received from the labs on Sunday. Now if we see a drop on Tuesday and Wednesday (for test results received on Monday and Tuesday) I'll be impressed.

What is even worse is the suspension of SEC football spring practices. Hopefully all the missed reps won’t affect the chemistry and execution when fall practices begin in late July or early August.

And don’t even mention the unfathomable. That cannot happen. It just can’t.

11:40 here, true one day down doesn't make a definite new trend. Just trying to find some good news. This is definitely being over hyped by some journalist though (I mean I don't work at the CDC, obviously).

1:31 I hope you are being sarcastic. If you life is incomplete without college sports then I feel extremely sorry for your entire existence. There are many more important things than entertainment, and that's all sports is.

1:39 - Lighten up Francis. What good is preserving life if we’re not going to enjoy it? Laugh. Relax. Be smart but not obsessed and paranoid.

Four words may unfortunately have significant meaning in all of this: Limited Resource Allocation Protocol.

Think triage: decisions made as to who will receive treatment and who will not.

I hope that doesn't come to pass.

Prayers. Wash your hands. Don't touch your face. Stay home.

Caution: post contains math. stand back and please use caution.

From: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

If you view the graph in log form, it's pretty easy to see a straight line.
Also, you will notice that # USA cases is doubling in 2-3 days. This gives us a daily rate of about 33%.

So, with 42k cases currently. Here is the 21 day projection.

42,000
55,860
74,294
98,811
131,418
174,786
232,466
309,180
411,209
546,908
727,387
967,425
1,286,675
1,711,278
2,276,000
3,027,080
4,026,016
5,354,602
7,121,621

Note: this is with current measures in place. Also, given the limitations of testing, once we get beyond a daily increase of about 200k, we won't know how many are infected.

So, whatever you _think_ you're doing to mitigate this, you (and I) had better do more, and do it quickly.

Anonymous said...

Most the people probably got it before the current measures went in place. Obviously I don't know for certain.

Better Than Ever said...

@7:51 But we more or less can know for certain. Look at infection numbers. Look at incubation times. These are new infections.

Looks like they changed the report time from morning to evening yesterday (6 pm) and reported only 40 something cases - we have had no updated numbers now in 29 hours for Mississippi - that is outrageous with all the uncertainty. Get the info out!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
