The Constitutional Clayton plot thickens

Who is Mr. Big, oops, I meant the "Big Man"? That is the question. Therese Apel of the Clarion-Ledger snagged two really good interviews with the wife and lawyer of "Constitutional Clayton", otherwise known as Clayton Kelly. Mrs. Kelly claims he was egged on by others into making the ill-fated Youtube video about the Cochrans:

Clayton Kelly's wife, Tara, and his attorney, Kevin Camp, said Kelly was ambitious to make a name for himself as a political blogger, was egged on by anonymous sources on the Internet to chase a story about Cochran but took it too far.....

Tara Kelly said her husband was working to get the "Constitutional Clayton" blog and YouTube channel off the ground when he received tips from "someone on the Internet" accusing Thad Cochran of having an affair.

"They gave him information as to where Rose Cochran was staying, as well as other information," Tara Kelly said. "… I wish I could tell you the names of these people on the Internet that gave my husband this information. But I don't know and can only hope it comes out who they are."... Rest of story
Good story and the videos are worth watching.  Mr. Kelly faces a preliminary hearing tomorrow in Madison Municipal Court.

McDaniel political career over.

Cannot wait for his goons on here to try to spin this as Thad's fault, Rose's fault, Haley's fault, anybody's fault but the guy whose camp orchestrated this.

A glimpse into Mississippi politics of the future once race fades as the lone problem.

Can the Madison county Sheriff's department make an arrest, execute a search warrant in Rankin county without Sen. Cochran signing an affidavit? Did the M.C.S..O. know St. Catherines gave a visitor pass before the arrest? $100, 000 bond for a non violent felony for a first time arrest? The real story is don't mess with a sitting member of the Politburo.

Oh good grief.
Bless her heart.
Taking action based on being given information or baited by a stranger on or off the Internet is absolutely ridiculous.
Clayton is a con artist's dream target.

Did he miss the Michelle Bachman fiasco when she repeated nonsense from some lady that showed up at a campaign stop?

Indeed, repeating what friends told you has risks as your friends can have been 1)misinformed 2)have a hidden agenda 3) be gullible 4) believe what they hope is true 5) be unaware of altering facts.
He calls himself " Constitutional Clayton" violates the purpose of a constitution ( to establish a framework of laws to protect individual freedoms and justice) by using a demented woman and family tragedy to further his own ambition?
I guess he missed the " women can't get pregnant when raped" stupidity ,too.
He needs another career. He is either too stupid or too naïve to be a political blogger.
PS I'm feeling sorry for the turtle. These folks can't look after themselves.

Cochran's camp waited weeks before turning it over to police. If he was truly outraged the po po would've been called immediately....except that his people didn't tell him about the video for several days after it had been taken down.

Both campaigns stink to high heaven. Who's the third party candidate again?

"Did the M.C.S..O. know St. Catherines gave a visitor pass before the arrest? "

Nice try, Sparky, but it doesn't matter. Visiting someone is not a crime. Taking the photo and posting it on the internet without her guardian's consent was an invasion of her privacy.

The McDaniel apologists are as dumb as he is. Sucks to be them.

I believe the third candidate is some guy who promises to pardon a bunch of murderers and buy them cars before their release so they can skedaddle out of the state. That cant be right though, a republican wouldn't do that!

I bet it's either going to be Plunkett or Brewster - if not both! Who was Sojourner on the phone with all Friday night? If she doesn't know who did, why not release her phone records. Come clean McDaniel!

The tea party folks around Jackson (all 10 of them) have been hinting about exposing Cochran and his mistress for over 6 months. There is no way that it is a coincidence that this guy put these pictures up on the web at almost the same time that all of the hubbub about Cochran's travel's with his assistant hit the wires. No way its a coincidence. Its been in the works for months. Maybe not by McDaniel himself, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. But this is a great example of the types he attracts. Rookies and kooks.

7:18 yes, MCSO and MPD can serve warrants, both search and arrest, in Rankin County as long as a local LEO is present; Sen. Cochran doesn't have to sign any kind of affidavit [he has no personal knowledge of the event anyway] and yes, the bond is high, but ALL defendants in Madison City Court get astronomical bonds. The Kelly Clown isn't getting any different treatment that other stupid criminals.

Anonymous said...

I'm just glad the Tea Party is over.

Agree with 8:32...if you don't like $100k bonds, don't break laws in city of Madison.....cause Canton is just north hinds County

I'll say it again: If someone can prove that Cochran has a mistress in the truest sense of the word, I'll go door-to-door for him and vote for him twice. Anyone delivering the wood at his age deserves at least that.

And I'll add that, if the Cochran rumor is true, it's far more impressive than the other rumor going around that a younger (unnamed) candidate has a particular woman on his "campaign staff" in more ways than one. Who can't do a little plumbing at that age?

"I'll say it again: If someone can prove that Cochran has a mistress in the truest sense of the word, I'll go door-to-door for him and vote for him twice."

That's the bottom line here for me. I mean, most people on planet earth don't care whether he has a mistress. His wife, tragically, has been in a home for over a decade. He can't divorce her (and shouldn't), but does anyone expect him not to have a girlfriend?

12:08, pretty sure Thad's old enough where he repeated a vow about "in sickness and in health, til death do us part." So yeah, count me as one those old fart's who expect him to honor his vows.

Furthermore, it could be easily argued that any man who willingly breaks his vows with his spouse would be perfectly copacetic with betraying the public's trust while in office.

If the rumors are to be believed, Thad's done both.

C-L reports (so consider the source) that an additional charge against Kelly was filed yesterday afternoon. Seems like photographing someone without their consent where they had a reasonable expectation of privacy is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Text of the CL story

Clayton Kelly faces a new felony charge of photographing someone without their consent over his allegedly photographing the bedridden wife of U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran in her nursing home and using the photos in a political hit piece.

Madison District Attorney Michael Guest said the charge was added Wednesday.
"It is a felony offense that carries a five year sentence," Guest said. "It deals with photographing or filiming someone, without their permission, in a place where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy."
Kelly, 28, of Pearl, arrested Friday night, also faces a felony charge of exploitation of a vulnerable adult. Authorities claim he photographed Rose Cochran at St. Catherine's nursing home in Madison, where she is bedridden, suffering from progressive dementia. Kelly, a political blogger and supporter of Cochran's GOP primary opponent, allegedly used the photos in a political hit piece video he posted online.

For those who do not remember, or were not even born then, Newt Gingrich was the object of scorn after a cartoon of him standing by his cancer-stricken and dying wife's bed, petitioning her for a divorce. It was a case of art imitating life. I suspect the embedded image in the public's mind of Thad's Alzheimer's-stricken wife in the latter stages of this disease--fetal position, babbling like an infant--while Thad and his landlady/secretary jet set around the World, will forever define his "legacy."

1:31 DA Guest announced the new charge. 97-29-63, one little problem, it requires lewd, licentious, or indecent intent. I don't think Kelly was trying to stir up his libido!

In the end, this is going to be a misdemeanor. I'll bet the preliminary hearing gets "continued"...

12:08 here. I'm not arguing whether he *said* "death till us part" or whatever. In a sense, though, they've already parted. I mean, the cerebral side of her that he once knew has, not to be melodramatic, been dead for some time. I mean she's alive and deserves to be respected as a human being. But if I was in her place, I think I'd be OK with my wife finding someone else to make her happy, if there was no chance of my recovery.

So if your wife/husband decides to have a little something on the side, you're good with that, right? Just what is the amount of time that they have to wait if you have health problems? A week? Month? Year? Who gets to decide the time frame? You? Apparently the good Senator has been doing this for quite some time.

I see that the kooks are out in force re one candidate yet the other one goes to Kentucky with a female staffer and not one of that herd says a word. Personally I do not think either one has violated his vows until I am given more than a photo of a gathering or learning of a campaign overnight trip.

Anonymous said...

lol at the charge. I thought attorneys were supposed to know the law or something like that. I guess that's why Michael Guest is a prosecutor, couldn't hack it in the real world. The people at the DA's office look like a bunch of amateurs to trained professionals right now. I guess it's alright to burglarize businesses and homes in Rankin County (I know personally that someone was let go on misdemeanors after stealing), but not alright to photograph someone for a hit piece. This guy's acts are despicable, but let's be real here. How much harm did the cause? The video was up for 90 minutes. He didn't get the pictures to uhhh satisfy himself with. And he used the picture to drive home a point about our Senator for no financial gain. So where is the felony? I don't think he "secretly" photographed Rose either. Not when he checked in at the guard station and walked by numerous personnel.

"Just what is the amount of time that they have to wait if you have health problems? A week? Month? Year?"

If I'm suffering from severe dementia, I would say a few months probably. Just my arbitrary line

Does anyone here actually believe McDaniel has honored his marriage vows?

Anonymous said...

My wife had a neurological disaster that left her on life support for years before her death. I was approached several times about some "on the side" companionship. Though suffering extreme loneliness, I declined. That was my personal choice. I would not, however, take a superior, holier than thou, attitude over someone that took the other path in a circumstance where the marriage is clearly over, at least physically. When traditional marital vows were written, there was no such thing as life support and years-long terminal illnesses. There has been no proof of adultery by the Senator, simply innuendo and rumor by people with a vested political interest. Disgusting.

Anonymous said...

3:20 so its OK if he violated her rights for a short period of time. What period of time must go by before it is a problem in your mind? Also if the guard let him in and was "walked by numerous staff" then robbed a person at St. C it would be alright since they let him in and no one said anything.

I'm appalled at those of you who think your situation of poor health in your family gives you the moral superiority to judge others.
You have no knowledge of how your situation differs.
Even if your parent or spouse had Alzheimer's or dementia, those diseases affect different parts of the brain with differing symptoms.
You are apparently ignorant of the spouses of those with Alzheimer's or dementia who were injured or murdered or those with dementia who harm themselves or others.
I admire that Cochran was able to find a safe environment for his wife and has made sure she isn't a danger or burden to herself or others.
If Sen. Cochran's wife's family are not upset or thinking Sen.Cochran lacking in character, perhaps they know some things you don't.
There are times when the moral thing and certainly Christian thing to do is to mind your own business!
This is one of those times!

3:20 here said...

@4:50 Evidently that is their philosophy up there. Yes, charging someone with felony exploitation when there is no financial gain and no physical damage to the victim is a serious reach. So you make another reach to charge him under the peeping tom law? All this happening while they let untreated drug addicts committing legitimate felonies out on misdemeanors. Don't twist the words, he didn't steal and didn't commit a felony. What happens when they go before the grand jury and he gets a no bill on all counts? I bet you'll be crowing for justice then, while some drug addict is robbing your house.

Whether you want to accept it or not, right is right and wrong is wrong. I'm appalled that you think that a U.S. Senator cheating on his spouse, ill or not, is okay. Since his children have not publicly stated that they have no problem with their father being a reputed philanderer perhaps you can persuade them to do so. It IS my business if one of the Senators representing my state has got a mistress.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
